"HAPPY | The Happy Movie." HAPPY | The Happy

ummary:
S
This source comes from a movie Happy that pulls us in a search of what makes people
happy. That combines real life stories from different people around the world on what makes
them happy. As well as finding the meaning of what happiness really is about. The main
argument of the movie is that nothing can compare to acceptance you either give or you
receive. When making connections to others, Intrinsic values and passions are incorporated into
your everyday life to bring happiness. Although happiness doesnt always depend on the
outside image of yourself, but of who you are uniquely.

Assessment: Source strengths/weaknesses

The reason for long life is happiness and friends no harm to anyone Reinforcing that people
are happy when they do what they love to do. Living in a noncompetitive community and are
surrounded by kind people. This documentary Happy strengths were allowing the viewers to
see the different perspectives of people in different parts of the world and why they are happy.
How we can all come together to form one as a whole and that material things come and go but
what's on the intrinsic is what truly counts. Expressing that not everything is measured in money
and grades. Expressing when you do good things for others the recipients of your kindness
arent the only ones receiving the benefits. This really made the point clear for the man that
worked at the shelter helping the ill. I overall think they had very good strengths and no
weaknesses what Happy portrayed was strong and pointed out their main ideas.
Reflection:
This source helps me answer the essential question what is the truth of happiness?
It made me view how happiness was measured and what truly made us as people happy. How
simple things we take for granted make so many others happy. I used to think if I worked hard
and did my best I would be happy until I would see the different views of true happiness and
what it is.. There have been so many different ways people have portrayed the truth happiness
but I think this article made me see that it may not always be easy. The source made me see

that you could know the truth of happiness and then one day to another just be over as if
nothing lasts. The truth of happiness is not given to you have to create it in your own way.

MLA Citation source #2:

The Atlantic. Atlantic Media Company. Web. 14 Feb. 2017.

Summary:
The Atlantic Theres more to life than being happy has so much emphasis on meaning, the
value of suffering and responsibility to something greater than itself. Which seems to be the
opposite of our culture which seems more intrigued in the pursuit of finding individual happiness
than in the search for meaning. What matters is having purpose and meaning in life, and the
mere pursuit of happiness is mere undefeated. Its about seeing the massive shift people are
seeing in happiness. About doing what youre passionate about, love to do as opposed to have
to do is what ultimately leads to being happy. As well as if there is a link to doing something that
has meaning and purpose that you are passionate about opposed that interlocks happiness.

Assessment:
When the article stated that if we have no meaning in life but are happy that we truly are not
happy. I disagree with this because you can have meaning and be happy in several ways.
When they say does passion etiquette to purpose and meaning I disagree because that pertains
differently. How they expressing leading a happy life and being a taker corresponds with being a
giver and I think that you can be neither and still be happy. That happy people get joy from
receiving benefits from others, when you have a meaningful life you like to help others. I think
how it keeps restating something that we may not all agree is true is a major weakness. If you
go through your life only being happy youre life will have no meaning. This is wrong happiness
and suffering both are opposites.

Reflection:
I think this article helps answer the question what is the truth of happiness in many ways. Even
though there are many ways to express happiness you have your own way of expressing and
can differ. How happiness is pursued to some people and they need and to others there is a lot
Heleny Zacamolpa

Humanities Section #3
more. That the truth of happiness can be a goal in life there is going to be good and bad days
and what happens in between those days could be the essential making them valuable.
Therefore trying to say there is a greater impact on happiness. That truly being happy is a state
of being a sort of combination of being content and the celebration of life through its ups and
downs. In my point of view suggesting that suffering has a purpose that happiness does not
and that is a form of truth inside happiness that the article helped me answer the message.

Quotes:
Page 1- It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness
Page 1 paragraph - Life is nothing more than a combustion process, a process of oxidation.
Page 3 paragraph 4 - You use your highest strengths and talents to belong and serve
something you believe is larger than the self.
Page 3 paragraph 6- Thinking beyond the present moment, into the past or future, was a sign
of the relatively meaningful but unhappy life, Happiness is not generally found in
contemplating the past or the future

New Era of Positive Psychology | TED Talk Subtitles and Transcript | TED.com. Web. 14

Summary:
Positive psychology has helped to better understand happiness. Such things as medications
and therapy were used to reduce negative symptoms. Modern science has provided techniques
to figure out ways to read the human brain and how is it simulated during different emotional
states. Modern science related to happiness has been linked to understanding as well as
sustaining and building positive emotions. There for figuring out that happiness and
unhappiness are not a continuance of unhappiness. That happiness has multiple faces. That
such a term flow is when we are at our happiest mood. Which is the opposite of pleasure; a
feeling that is not content. When we make more time on subjects that are meaningful we
improve and assist/continue our happiness.

Assessment:

Humanities Section #3
I think this Ted talk was hard to understand how psychology has and has not improved I think
they should have stated that clearer. I was confused when he said it was good not good, and in
the future might be good enough what does he mean by this. When he explained how
psychology was worked with in the disease model. But what is psychology in the long run how
he said it's about finding what's wrong with you and now its about finding who you are. How
psychology has vastly improved and now is possibly treatable depending on the disease.(The
key point is strong) Due to science developing now they can classify mental illnesses because
of the improvement and I think this Ted Talk had more strengths than weaknesses.

Reflection:
This Ted Talk helped me answer what is the truth of happiness and I think in this it was finding
new improvements in our modern science and technology. It was being able to treat people and
not make them feel wrong. I think with technology, entertainment, and design will be able to
drive our world potentially in the future to increase happiness. If flow and meaning are
incorporated. Both design and entertainment can improve positive emotion we will all come
together to have a happier environment and I think that is the truth of happiness. Therefore our
world has vastly improved to allow us to function and be ourselves and that is the truth of
happiness.

Quotes:
Time: 4:52 The second cost we forgot about you people, We forgot about improving normal
lives, We forgot about a mission to make relatively untroubled people happier, more fulfilled,
more productive.Genius, High talent, became a dirty word no one works on that.
Time: 5:14 The third problem about the disease model, our rush to do something about people
in trouble, in our rush to do something about repairing damage, it never occurred to us to
develop interventions to make people happier -positive interventions
Time: 15:05 So, thats the second path The first path, positive emotion; the second path is
eudaemonia flow; and the third path is meaning
Time: 16:48 Gratitude visit, close your eyes, Id like you to remember someone who did
something enormously that changed your life in a good direction, and who you never properly
thanked
Time: 19:18 It turns out the pursuit of pleasure has almost no contribution to life satisfaction

Richtel, Matt. "Does Technology Affect Happiness?" T

Times, 25 Jan. 2012. Web. 14 Feb. 2017.

Summary:
This article was about how technology plays a great factor in our world for girls. How social
media has made us insecure and sent out messages that were portrayed to not be ourselves.
From these messages as well we gain confidence based on likes or on how many friends we
have. When we used to play outside with friends with no phones and now we take our phones
everywhere. I think since our technology has been developing the future generations will use
more technology than we may be using. We as the article says have been losing our
connections and our skills talking to people since we have a screen to protect our faces. This
has been our miss communications with others.

Assessment:
I think this article has a lot of strengths on how technology affects happiness for the most part I
agree with them. That the early ages we start spending on social media the less social we are.
That we dont experience face to face conversations we send a text message and we dont have
to worry about others expressions. That we may be happier if we plug and have a life that may
be balanced. There is always a way to use technology even if its not a phone it may be a game
controller. I think there are two sides some people use technology to open up opportunities and
others get a message that doesnt make them content.

Reflection:
This source helps me not answer the essential question what is the truth of happiness because I
think social media has taken that from girls. I think in this article we werent able to answer the
question because we have so many insecurities and we dont know how to talk to others
because we spend more time texting. When we hang out with friends we arent able to have a
conversation we get out but we are on our phones the whole time. We start spending more time
on technology we have no extra time to do other activities. The only part that does make us
happy is when we are on social media we always want more. The messages we receive are

how to be we arent really ourselves anymore. We spend more time on our phones than on
actual paperback books and I think to me that was my happiness.

"Germany." OECD Better Life Index. Web. 14 Feb. 2017.

Summary:
Germany performs in many different rankings quite high. Such as education, jobs and work life
balance and many others. They live a good lifestyle and have a higher percentage of people
that are employed. Germany is more connected to their country and has better relationships.
They are able to have more attractions and they have jobs depending on their interests. They
see friends and family more having that support. They love sports and spending time outside
such as extraocular activities. They are required to go to school for a longer period of time
depending on the city they live in quite more than in America. Since they have more skills they
get better jobs that allow their income to be much better. They as well have many breaks and
that helps them to never get bored with jobs and activities. In Germany there is a stronger force
of community in general germans are just more content with their daily lives.

Assessment:
I think Germany has many strengths and accomplishments. I think going to school for a longer
period of time and being out in the community opens many doors. As well as requiring to learn
at least another language for better communication. Its as if they are very comfortable and open
minded and always allow for better ideas. I think this all ties in with making people in Germany
happier. Its quite easy to adapt to and public transport is very connected. Its very easy to travel

within Germany. Inhabitants work fewer hours and are more willing. The amounts of activity in
Germany, especially in spring and summer time, it is definitely a huge plus in being happier.
You always are busy and have something to do. As well as their strict discipline and general
awareness make them stand out. They have art, culture, music and literature about anywhere.
Having all of the above makes this article seem that Germany is happier than America.

Reflection:
Better life index has allowed me to help answer the question what is the truth of happiness and I
think it is being able to be safe have freedom and have a community that is open. People living
in Germany are very content and clean and if something needs to be repaired it will be repaired
very quickly. People are very helpful and help problem solve. Although they have many events
and festivals they always end up the next day being clean. Its a carefree society and one can
be themselves. Having clean air which is a pleasure to breathe in and have high-quality water.
For students, universities are quite affordable. Traveling is very fast and reliable and I think being
able to just live in a community that has all of the above is the truth of happiness being able to
do things you enjoy. Lots of job opportunities that require much skill, therefore is why they
spend so much time in school. Protect and care for nature and you have much time to do what
you want to do. Since they are required to speak a language different from their own they have
better communication. The country is beautiful and their quality of work is taken very seriously.

MLA Citation source #6: "A Point of View: Happiness and Disability." BBC News. BBC, 01

June 2014. Web. 21 Feb. 2017.

Summary:
The disability paradox suggests that many individuals with disabilities report that they
experience an excellent quality of life. People that may have an intellectual disability may not
consider them to be different to others. Usually, there are stages when you are in denial when
you adapt, when you accept. After trauma, they come up with a concept that is called hedonic
adaptation (refers to how you lived before the trauma stuck although this can also happen in
reverse.) Finding another way to adapt to complete daily tasks that were easier before the
Heleny Zacamolpa
The Truth of Happiness

trauma happened. You can have happiness before trauma and after you adapt you can as well
have happiness. Although impairments do entail suffering and limitation many other factors can
compensate for them. Someone could have a fully working body and mind but lack friendships
and be fulfilled and happy. But others that may have impairments do have this despite their
disability. Disability is no tragedy and I think you become happy when you adapt and make
progress trying to be the new you. While disability is not a relevant difference such as the color
of your skin neither is it a tragedy.

Assessment:
This article, in my opinion did a very good job describing how having a disability is not the end.
That although yes daily tasks performed before are harder but not impossible to accomplish.
Even though you may have difficulties with certain tasks you might be better at music or art or a
certain extraocular activity. Sometimes you are smarter than most people because you adapted
well to the trauma. I think this article is saying that your life does change but you become
happier in most cases because you want to make every day meaningful. This articles pointed out
all the points I wanted to address I have never felt as such an article can express reality. Sating
adaption is key to being happier because you learn to overcome obstacles you never thought
before you would be able to do. You want to try new things that in the past you might have been
afraid of and its a way to prove how well you show others you are doing.

Reflection:
I think this article helped me answer what is the truth of happiness within a disability and I think
it is proving others that yes you have a disability but you keep crushing those obstacles. That in
the long run, youre pretty much better than you were before and you are always improving.
That progress comes slow but is so effective. Those small activities with time and patience will
be easier and faster. That going through the different stages is true happiness that you work
through it. You essentially in a way become stronger as a whole. I think this article answers the
truth of happiness in a variety of ways on how not only is express but with actions too.

The Truth of Happiness

Summary:

So many people have asked themselves how would I live if I was like that person with a
disability. How you associate a disability (dependence and difficulty in completing
everyday tasks. How our assumptions control us to make us feel bad about a certain
person based upon their disability. Thinking they are unhappy or down because of their
physical appearance or intellectual intrinsic due to their limitations. Although the research
that has been found for the Disability Paradox is incorrect, they experience a positive
quality of life. Within society's responses to them and their disability, causing them to have
a lower quality life than of an average non-disabled person. Impairment does not have to
be associated with an individual's quality of life. That satisfaction associated with life is
possible even when an individual is completely dependent on others. Immediately in
between the stages of an injury people reported symptoms of depression and sadness
after some time has gone by they adapt to their to their given condition. Their stability of
emotions despite the changes in an individual's life is referred to Hedonic Adaption
stating that one tends to go back to the stability they had before the impact.
Assessment:

I think this article represents very well how there are many factors that improve the quality
of life. Therefore we can adapt to any situation because we are human beings. Although
in reality, we as human beings tend to assume that those individuals with functional
impairments tend to face more misery. It is not what we can or cant do but what we do
with what we have that makes the difference. I think this says that although our daily lives
have vastly changed we learn how to live in a new way and that is the most important
thing. As well this article states that a good quality of life does not have to be associated
with one individual disability. As well going in depth with the different stages with having a
disability and how we as humans also have this when we cant do something but after
practice and patience we accept and are to move from there.
Reflection:
I think this article helped me answer the essential question of what happiness is within a
disability and I think it is accepting that you have a disability. As well as being yourself and
not allowing other people to bring you down because of their judgment. I think within a
Heleny Zacamolpa

disability happiness is learning how to allow others to help you. As well being able to be
positive about everything and forget the past that brought bad memories. As well as
having support from family and friends to tell you that there will be hard days but you will
push through them. I think happiness can be challenging you to try new things and figure
out what they are best at/can do. Allowing to distract themselves with hobbies because
that is one thing that will not change from the past. Being accepted and accepting yourself
as not different from anyone else.

MLA Citation source #8:World, Disabled. "Disability and the Pursuit of Happiness." D

World. Disabled World, 19 Apr. 2015. Web. 23 Feb. 2017.

Summary:

The capability to set aside what at times in life is chaos relating issues corresponding with a
disability and finding happiness in various cases may seem unreachable although it is not.
Regardless of the issues you may be facing correlating to the specific disability you may
have. The measures of having perfect physical/health and mental ability do not correlate
with happiness. The perceptions within society making an individual unhappy that may
have a disability is feeling less than as well as not capable to those who are in perfect
health. In many cases people that may have a disability struggle with the perceptions of
others for a while until they are able to discover if they are not associated with them their
perspectives dont matter. In general people with disabilities are incredibly varied in their
abilities. As well as non-disabled people as well are limited and skilled in their own ways.
Finding your own happiness as someone who has a disability is trying your best to
understand that people are people. Altogether people with disabilities are contributing
members as everyone else. Accepting that our abilities and skills are just as valuable as
anyone else has and you are no indifferent. Foremost you might need accommodations or
may need to use adaptive equipment and it shouldnt bother you in the slightest. Take is
as everyone else does for their personal needs(smart phones) and far more. These items
are viewed as accommodations that both people with and without disabilities use these
items on a regular basis and its completely normal.
Heleny Zacamolpa
The Truth of Happiness
Humanities Section #3
Assessment:
I think this article worked very well making me realize that perspectives do matter to people and
how you reference them and others. Instead of thinking of the bad aspects of disabilities it made
me change my way of thinking in so many ways. One was to look at the positive and bringing
positivity to these certain people. Make them feel that they are not different and that they are
wanted. An example of this would try to befriend the person they might not have many friends
and include them. As well as learning why they tend to (yell, make certain noises) try to figure
out how you can help to calm. This article showed me the difference between gross motor skills
and fine motor skills on the different spectrum and how they work together all in one and now I
know why for some writing is something they struggle with.

Reflection:
This article helped me answer the essential question what is happiness and I think it is letting go
of the perspectives of people that are not associated with you and not mind them. How to
perceive the level of independence and choice as well as control is key to happiness.
Regardless of the limitations you may have because of your disability there is always hope and I
think happiness is finding that hope. Another truth of happiness within a disability is finding in
trying to maintain a positive outlook on life. Some of the factors that help to lead to happiness
include (choice, relationships(support), and the level of independence you have achieved.
Trying to build on the positive things in your personal life and grow on them. Another way this
article allowed me to answer the essential question of happiness related with a disability is
people that generally do well in the wake of their disability are the people that cope the best.

disease and suffering, and ultimately to die.
Sometimes, the part of life that is difficult brings other benefits, such as a sense of perspective

We feel sorry for disabled people, because we imagine it must be miserable to be disabled.

It is not what we can or cant do but what we do with what we have that makes the difference

MLA Citation source #9: "Disability And Happiness -." Reeve Foundation Community. Web. 23
Feb. 2017.
Summary:
The definition of a disability is lack of adequate power, strength, physical/mental ability;
incapacity. That happiness bounces back after a life shock. When we talk about happiness
some often we talk about morality. That everyone has the capacity to be happy no matter how
daunting and painful the circumstance of life might be. I think its about the modern pursuit of
happiness and the possible danger of this approach. We need to express our true inner self,
get in touch with our deeper feelings, and follow the path set for ourselves. In many minds,
people with disabilities dont have the capability to work hard and be productive. In other words,
people with disabilities can achieve individual happiness as anyone else. In completing this you
have two tasks to defy expectations and work to reach the point where you can say to yourself,
I have made it. Within completing this it will be easier to be happier because in the long run,
the suffering has proved other wrong.
Assessment:
I think this article explained very well how quality of life is dependent upon finding a balance
between body, and spirit on an individual as well as establishing and maintaining a harmonised
set of relationships within a person's social context as well as external environment. A basic
structure is developed to express these relationships and I think the article needed to make this
a bit clearer. As well as explaining the different components of the different impairments within a
disability on the spectrum was very helpful. I think this source was very descriptive and it
Heleny Zacamolpa
The Truth of Happiness
Humanities Section #3
allowed me to see the disabilities and how for many people how it doesnt take their happiness
away. Although if you are in the mid section they tend to not savor positive events. As well this
source gave me different scenarios and seeing the difference of happiness.
Reflection:
I think this article was able to answer the essential question what is the truth of happiness
because it was finding where you are on the spectrum after trauma and how it correlates
to happiness. Since most people and their happiness in a way improved because they
had smaller pleasures that they would be able to accomplish. Overall, I think the truth of
happiness is letting go of the pain and moving forward. You gotta live for the bad days to
get through the good days and I think thats learning to move forward. As well accepting
and going through each step one at a time. Defying expectations and setting them to a
high reaching level standard. As well as reaching them and saying I did it and feeling as if
you were anyone else.
