Unified Port Configuration
4 SFP 10-Gbps unified ports
Can be configured as FC or Ethernet ports
Constraints:
All FC ports must be contiguous
All Ethernet ports must be contiguous
FC ports must come before the Ethernet ports in the order [1..to..4]
Ethernet 1 2 3 4
1 2 3 4
Possible Configurations
FC 1 2 3 4
1 2 3 4
This behavior is different from Cisco UCS, where Ethernet ports come before FC ports

Need for Power Cap Enhancements
Existing UCS power capping
Conservative algorithm and Static catalog/nameplate power capping values
Max server power consumption is much lower in most cases.
BRKDCT-2678 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Cisco Public
Power Profiling
The Max and Min power cap value of Blades can be measured during
discovery by profiling the server.
UCSM runs mprime in PNUOS for profiling.
CIMC returns profiled power values to UCSM at the end of discovery.
Profiling can be enabled/disabled using Global
Power Profiling Policy Disabled:
Min = 350 W,
Max = Sum(Components Catalog Max) / 550 W
Pre-discovery power = 350 W
Enabled:
Min, Max powercap will be measured on discovery.
Pre-discovery power = 500 W
BRKDCT-2678 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Cisco Public
Measured Min and Max Power Cap per blade
At the end of
discovery, once
the server is
shutdown, profiled
power values from
CIMC are fetched
and stored as
Measured min,
max power cap
values in UCSM.
BRKDCT-2678 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Cisco Public
Optimization with Power Profiling
Boot Staggering
UCSM will try to boot as many blades as possible given the available power.
Blade discovery and service-profile association will for available power, before powering on
the blades.
If required power is not available, then boot will be staggered using the FSM retry mechanism,
which will fail the discovery/association after 20 retries and then restart the FSM after 8 mins.
Budget Reclaim
At the end of blade discovery, blade is powered-off and the power budget allocated to the
blade is reclaimed.
This is done to allow other blades waiting on discovery or association to go through.

FI-IOM High Availability (HA)
Background:
- Primary Heartbeat (HB) & Election Messages run over peer link (bond0).
- Secondary Heartbeat runs over chassis SEEPROM when primary HB fails.
- SEEPROM also maintains cluster, chassis, fabric & DB version info.
Functionally same as classic UCS with the exception of following differences:
- Peer link (bond0) consists of a single 1G link (eth2) on chassis backplane.
- Only Primary Chassis SEEPROM is used for secondary heartbeat. (Racks will not be
used for secondary heartbeat.)
BRKDCT-2678 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Cisco Public
Online Insertion and Removal (OIR) of FI-IOM
FI-IOM can be hot inserted or removed.
Identical to classic UCS, during first setup, user must choose either standalone
or cluster configuration.
To fully setup a cluster configuration, user must setup both FI-IOMs. If only a
single FI-IOM is setup, it is an incomplete configuration and UCSM will not be
accessible.
Once fully setup, an FI-IOM can be pulled out. This would cause the existing FI-
IOM to become primary if it was secondary.
Note: This is meant to be only for transient condition till removed FI-IOM is replaced.
