JOB DESCRIPTION - Technical Production Lead

Platform, the thriving arts centre at the heart of the award-winning Bridge complex in
Easterhouse is recruiting for a Technical Production Lead to join our expanding team at an
exciting time in our company development. We seek an experienced and enthusiastic
professional to lead on the delivery of all technical requirements and set up for activities
across the company.

The Technical Production Lead is a fundamental role within Platform and at the heart of
our operations. You will be part of a core team of fifteen and work closely with our Arts
Manager and liaise with across the team.

Platform is run by Glasgow East Arts Company (GEAC). We are a strategic partner at The
Bridge which launched in 2006 as an aspirational new facility for arts, leisure and learning
comprising Glasgow Kelvin College, Glasgow Lifes swimming pool and library. GEAC
Trading operates the Caf Bar at The Bridge.

Platform celebrated its 10 year anniversary in 2016 with a dynamic range of performance,
gigs, exhibitions and taking part events, as well as a specially curated programme that
took place in October reflecting on previous work and potential future collaborations. We
work with a range of partners, funders, local organisations and communities groups to
deliver our cross arts programme both within our building and across the north east of
Glasgow and beyond.

Platform is financially supported by Creative Scotland and Glasgow City Councils


Integrated Grant Fund alongside many other partners from housing associations and
community health partnerships to The Roberston Trust and Big Lottery.

HOURS 35 hours per week over 7 days

SALARY 24,685 per annum

REPORTS TO Arts Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

To lead on the maintenance and operation of staging, lighting, sound, AV and


effects equipment to deliver Platforms creative programme and other services

To produce and plan Platforms technical service for our core in-house programme
and all external hires

To line manage the Platform in-house technical team

To contribute to the training and management of Front of House and Operations


team.

To coordinate and line manage a pool of casual technical staff in order to provide
the company with the best service delivery for the Platform programme.

To develop new initiatives and be aware of current best practice that will contribute
to the growth of the Company

To be aware of industry developments and implement where appropriate in order that


the Company remain competitive

To act as lead contact for all production and technical requirements for visiting
companies

To lead on Health and Safety at work

To lead on Sustainability and Environmental Impact across the Company

To liaise with Platforms partners, particularly our Strategic Bridge and represent
the Company as required.

KEY TASKS:
Technical Duties

plan and deliver the technical production for all in-house performances and
events including set up, rigging, scenery, lighting, sound, AV and associated
technical production as required
plan and deliver the technical production for all visiting and touring companies
performances and events including load in, set up, rigging, scenery, lighting,
sound, AV and associated technical production as required
work closely with the in-house team to ensure that we deliver a programme of
the highest quality and to ensure specific production and technical requirements
are met as far in advance as possible
liaise with visiting / touring companies, promoters and artists to provide the
highest standard of service and to ensure specific production and technical
requirements are met as far in advance as possible
provide technical production support, health and safety advice for GEACs touring
and off-site programmes
operate room booking software to ensure communication of information and
contractual obligations for all activity
ensure all spaces are clean, tidy and safe
develop training programmes at The Bridge for staff and partner organisations,
such as Glasgow Kelvin College

Staff Supervision and Management

scheduling, supervision and direction of all technical staff including the


arrangement of appropriate training
manage set budgets and sign off casual workers timesheets timeously
write and contribute to reports for funders and the Board
contribute to the daily operations and smooth running of the front of house team

Health and Safety Duties

compile and review the companys Operating Manual outlining procedures for the
day to day operation of Platform in line with overarching procedures for The
Bridge
manage and maintain all technical equipment in a serviceable and safe condition
in line with Health and Safety legislation
deliver Portable Appliance Testing for all Company equipment on an annual
basis
lead on all aspects of safe and efficient working practices in line with Health and
Safety legislation and as part of The Bridge Health and Safety Coordinating
Group
undertake and lead on GEACs risk assessments for both front of house and
technical areas alongside specific assessments for off-site activity
provide on the job training for the GEAC team in risk management and other
aspects of health and safety at work including for example, manual handling

Equipment Management

maintain and update the Companys equipment inventory


identify equipment as necessary for the Company in order for it to deliver against
its core aims
manage and the Companys equipment hire business

Other Duties
attend relevant internal and external meetings
manage and maintain relationships with internal and external suppliers
any other duties as directed by the Arts Manager
