Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, the headquarters oce building of the Ministry of External
Aairs at Janpath, New Delhi, is a contemporary state-of-the-art building in complete harmony
with its environment and surrounding architecture of Edwin lutyens.
Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan is the rst ECBC compliant Govt. Building which will have Green
Building Cer5ca5on with LEEDS. The plot of land measuring 7.785 Acres (31,504 sqm.) is
situated on the crossing of Maulana Azad road and Janpath. The total built up area of the
building is 59,475 sqm including basement area 28,075 sqm to accommodate parking and
services such as electric sub sta5on, pump room, DG set etc. The total cost of the project is
apprx. Rs. 232 Cr.

Technical Details
(i) Flyover : Flyover has been constructed along the Ring Road and the Road No 51. Main
yover is 630 m long, Dual carriageway of 9 m in each direc5on) with Pre-stressed Box
Girders for superstructure. Flyover was completed and opened to trac on 13th
November 2009.
(ii) Underpass : An underpass has been constructed along Mall Road and the G. T. Karnal
Road. Underpass along the G. T. Karnal Road - Mall Road is 530 m, long with Dual
carriageway of 9m in each direc5on, 5m wide central verge to accommodate piers of
Metro track and 50m covered por5on at the intersec5on. One carriageway of Underpass
for trac coming from Model Town, Delhi University and going towards Mukarba Chowk,
Karnal was opened to trac on 30/01/2010. Second carriageway of underpass for trac
coming from Karnal, Mukarba Chowk and going towards Model Town, University is opened
on 28/02/2010.
(iii) Foot Over Bridge : FOB have been provided to facilitate pedestrian movement of Mall
Road, GTK Road and Azadpur Metro Sta5on.

A Bungalow plot at 2 Talkatora road
has been allo6ed to Rajya Sabha by MOUD
for the construc5on of type VII ats for the
MPS of Rajya Sabha. The plot is located
between the Nurses Hostel and SWAJAS
(Swarn Jayan5 Sadan) Mul5 storied Flats
having an area of 2646.68 sqm. with
frontage on Talkatora Road.
The area did not fulll the essen5al
minimum requirement of Group Housing
plot of 3000 Sqm as per the Master plan
2021. Therefore it was decided in consulta5on with NDMC, DDA and L&DO to amalgamate the
plot of 2, Talkatora road with SWAJAS (24854.65sqm) and the exis5ng Service Road
(1105 sqm.).
Requirements :
Chairman, Rajya Sabha House Commi6ee, projected the requirement for the ats for Rajya
sabha. Each at should should provide for:
i) 4 spacious Bed rooms with a6ached Toilets
ii) Drawing room, Study (Oce space)
iii) Modular Kitchen, Dining, Family Lounge
iv) Mul5purpose space for holding func5ons & other ac5vi5es on the ground oor.
V) Each at shall have two servant quarters.
Proposal
The plot at 2 Talkatora Road has been amalgamated with the exis5ng Housing complex
SWAJAS which has three blocks (G+7) having 84 ats and three four storied servant blocks
housing 168 servant quarters, to accommodate an addi5onal (G+7) block having 14 ats and
28 servant quarters.
Design Concept
The required ats are proposed in a Ground + seven storied Y shaped block, to match
with the congura5on & height of the exis5ng building blocks of the SWAJAS housing
complex.
It has been located in harmony with other building blocks without upse7ng the internal
road network, services and exis5ng landscape.

Indias famous A6ari-Wagah Interna5onal border joint check post is located about 26 K.M.
from Amritsar. Half an hour joint retreat ceremony is held by India and Pakistan at this joint
check post every day. In addi5on number of Interna5onal mee5ngs between BSF and Pakistan
Rangers are held in the exis5ng conference hall at this check post. The JCP A6ari also func5ons
as COY headquarter and BOP of the Border Security Force. The area witnesses thousands of
daily visitors. BSF proposes to demolish the exi5ng viewing gallery and other opera5onal
buildings and construct a much larger viewing gallery for the visitors with the related
opera5onal requirements and other facili5es.
The proposed Viewing Gallery has been planned in U-shape within the available limits of
land with focus of ac5vity being the Na5onal Flags of two countries at the entry gates at the
Interna5onal border and the central road leading to the zero line. The Gallery has two levels
i.e. main level and a balcony (total capacity about 13000 visitors) on both sides of the road
with the balcony forming a U-shape above the road.
The related opera5onal requirements and other facili5es are accommodated by u5lizing
the space below
the sea5ng 5ers.
The architectural

the architecture of
Punjab, which is
reected through
elements such as
piers, domes,
chajjas, arches,
cornices and jallies
etc. The external
colour scheme is

The conceptual proposal has been approved by the Ministry of Home Aairs and the
expenditure sanc5on for Rs. 23.987 crore (23,98,32,274/-) has been issued. Tenders have
already been called and the project is scheduled to be completed within 20 months a&er start
of construc5on.
The site is located on the top of the hill in the recently aquired
(Monastry Estate) overlooking the Academy. This hostel will cater to the ever increasing
trainees at the LBSNAA.
Keeping in view the prominant loca5on and the built form in Mussoorie and the Academy
the sloping roof and some features have been adopted from the surrounding buildings
and Koteshwar Castle.
The interiors shall be modern keeping in view the status and rank of the IAS and other trainees.
To reduce heat loss during the cold season a brick cavity wall g y 230+50+115 along with
herma5cally sealed double glazed window panes has been proposed.
Another feature of this building is that no vehicular approach shall be provided only a
jeep-able road has been proposed. This building will be accessed by a pedestrian footpath
or a li& from the parking area.

The Proposed design is made for 600 bedded (single room) Girls Hostel in the campus of
NIT Kurukshetra. It has been designed for G+5 storied having plinth area 21480 Sq. Meter.
The passive Green Building Measures have been taken into account. The longer side of the
building is oriented N and S and shorter side E & W. Central court yard has been u5lized for
dining and recrea5on, so as to save the ground coverage as well as the oor area to
accommodate the required size of dining and recrea5on.

with murals.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is one of the esteemed Client of CPWD. Kendriya Vidyalaya
Sangathan proposes to construct Kendriya Vidyalaya at village Gajjan, Bhunga in District
Hoshiarpur. The proposal includes B type Kendriya Vidyalaya (to be upgraded to C type in
the future) and 11 residences and sports facili5es. The complete design proposal including the
future expansion provision was approvedby the Honble Minister of State, Health and the KVS.
The expenditure sanc5on for Rs. 22.31 crore (22,31,76,000/-) has been issued for the B
type School building and a separate sanc5on has been issued for boundary wall in the rst
phase.The construc5on for the Boundary wall has started. The school building work is at tender
stage and is scheduled to be completed within 18 months a&er start of construc5on.
The proposed Kendriya Vidyalaya has been planned as a conglomera5on of an
administra5ve block,two self contained blocks of classrooms with central courtyard keeping in
mind the students of dierent age groups and a central block having common facili5es and
laboratories etc. The provision for cycle parking for students, bus parking, visitors parking,
sports facili5es, canteen, play areas, jogging track, sports facili5es, open air performance area,
ESS and STP etc. has been made in the proposal. The architectural character of the school
draws inspira5on from the architecture of Punjab, which is reected through elements such as
piers, domes, chajjas, arches and jallies etc. The external colour scheme is proposed in exterior
texture paint in shade of dholpur stone with accentua5ons in shade of red sandstone. The red
sandstone has been proposed up to window cill level and in the porch / area.

Proposal
The construc5on of a three storied building following the land prole and the contours of
site site. The main entry has been taken at 93.50 level following the road level and the site
contours. As exis5ng ground rises, the building follows the shape of the ground and extends
onto the exis5ng open spaces in the central landscaped court which is at a level of 100 00 with
100.00 dining and lounge opening on the exis5ng mound.
The building has been designed as a green building to achieve high green building ra5ng
ra5ng. Eorts have been made to use local building materials and follow tradi5onal
architectural prac5ces.

Indian Mari5me University Chennai is being developed in an extent of about 300 acres of
land located along the East Coast Road (ECR) across the Buckingham Canal.
Master plan was prepared by CPWD consis5ng of Administra5ve Building, Academic
Building, Boys Hostel, Girls Hostel with Dining hall and further drawings are under prepara5on
for Vice Chancellors Bungalow and other Residen5al buildings.
Brief History :
The Administra5ve Building consists of Block A and B. Both the blocks are of Special
Dravidian Architecture involving highly skilled sthapathy works especially one big dome in Block
A having dia of 6.00 metre and 5 domes in block B out of which 4 domes of 3.1 metres and
one big dome of 7.90 metres dia. roman owers at top around the building, lotus ower nish
in each and every tall column with gigan5c pedestals in all columns. Further electrical works
of specialised items like centralized AC re gh5ng, re alarm and installa5on of li& etc. were
executed. The total cost of the building is Rs.12.50 crores including electrical installa5ons, li&,
re gh5ng and Centralised A.C.

This building is three storeyed RCC framed construc5on (G+2 storeys) having Seminar Hall
and Teaching facili5es at Central por5on and Boys and Girls Hostel rooms with a6ached toilet
for accommoda5ng two occupants in each room.
Requirements :
1. Conven5on Center capacity 300 par5cipants
2. Two mini halls gallery type with the capacity of 50 to 60 par5cipants.
3. Conference Halls/Class rooms gallery type with the capacity of 40 par5cipants.
4. The conference halls need to have access to support rooms/syndicate rooms/Discussion
rooms.
5. Facili5es like Cafeteria/refreshment are at two feasible loca5ons and washrooms etc. as
per requirements.
6. Facili5es for centralized reprographic services and stores for the training materials.
Concept :
The Interna5onal conven5on Centre has been designed to suit with the Interna5onal
standards and accommodated all the requirements men5oned by the client.
The orienta5on and design of the conven5on centre has been designed based on the physical
features as per exis5ng terrain condi5ons which is prevailing in the proposed site hence natural
condi5ons of boulders & rocks have been protected so as to provide good ambience.
The Ground oor accommodates the total parking requirements and other requirements like
Electrical rooms, Generator, Canteen, central stores etc. The central part accommodates the green
lawns in stepped fashion this is the space which will be used by the Ins5tu5on for discussions and
demonstra5ons of new innova5ons with the rural people.
The rst oor accommodates all the requirements the access is provided through the
ramp for disabled & VIPs, stair case and li&s. The secondary entry has been provided from the
backside for the students to access the class rooms and other facili5es

The chemistry & Biotechnology lab building at NIT Durgapur primarily contains the
chemistry & Biotechnology labs for the UG, PG, Research scholars. It also contains other
support areas like HOD room, Conference room and a number of faculty rooms. It is a G+4
(ve storied) building planned on a severe land constraint. Also special care was taken while
planning, not to fell the exis5ng trees at site. An internal one side open courtyard was created
to save one full grown tree right at the center of the site.The building planning is very
streamlined, completely barrier free and contemporary. Finishes such as ACP, Structural
Glazing, Glass canopy & Spider n glazing have been used to render the modern. The building

The proposal is for construc5on of basement +g+8, centrally air-condi5oned building
following the site prole & orienta5on & surrounding cityscape.
L-shaped corridor leading to all the rooms around triangular hall spaces. high rise main
block is inter-connected to the low rise conference & auditorium around a central landscaped
green & extending to well designed refec5ng pool with fountains at the approach point.
The building has been designed as a barrier free building with entrance ramp, li&s with
barrier free standard. green building norms like usage of low-e glass faade, recessed window,
usage of energy ecient 7ngs, water saver toilet 7ngs etc have been incorporated as salient
features of the building.
To make the external features aesthe5cally expressive & to match the exis5ng
surroundings of i.t. city with the millenium tower at the back-drop, structural glazing, acp

Green Features
Most rooms are either facing North-East or South-West, thereby receiving maximum
sunlight so that less power is required for room hea5ng. The roong system is at RCC
structure, but the parappet wall has been designed by following local Sikkimese Architecture.
The at roof can be used for instala5on of solar panel. Since the projects in Sikkim, elements
of Buddhist Architecture in shape, form and colour has been incorporated using modern

Under the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, CPWD provides single
window services for all facets of the government built environment in India and abroad.
With its huge resource of skilled and competent engineers, architects and horticulturists,
CPWD's strength is its country wide presence, with proven ability to undertake a whole range
of complex constructions under difficult terrains. The department has the capacity to
undertake construction varying from the smallest works in the remotest of places to mega
projects in metro cities. These works include the construction and maintenance of
government structures such as residential complexes, offices, schools, laboratories,
hospitals, sport facilities, stadia, gymnasia, auditoria, storages, highways, flyovers, tunnels,
bridges, jetties, airports, runways and border fencing. Intra-campus facilities such as water
and electric supply, sewerage and treatment plants are also provided.
CPWD also performs other functions such as the custody of estates, valuation, rent
assessment, technical advice to government, consultancy services, standardisation and
benchmarking, State Ceremonies (Republic Day, Samadhis, etc.), processing of DPRs for
development of urban infrastructure under JNNURM and works of other Ministries for
centrally funded works. CPWD also assists in organising public and ceremonial functions,
and upkeep of historical and important monuments and structures.
