SCC User Interface Concepts

Resource
Represents a unique Sybase product component
Includes servers, databases, routes, queues, etc.

Perspective
Visual container for a set of views, each of which can be
customized to represent different ways to look at a
managed resource, such as a server, database, device,
or table
Main workspace on the Sybase Control Center window
One perspective is visible at a time

View
Used to manage one or more resources within a
perspective
Most SCC Views are dynamic based on the resource
selected
There are some generic views such as heat chart,
perspective resources view and resource explorer

Alerts
Alert Management

Alerts are triggered by user-defined thresholds on metrics gathered by SCC

An Alert allows you to be notified when an event affecting a managed resource occurs.

Each product module is pre-configured with alert templates that provide default thresholds for KPIs
defined for a managed resource

Notifications are messages that are sent to alert subscribers as the result of an alert

Storm Suppression prevents multiple alerts of the same message arriving within a user-defined period
of time.

Collection Jobs

SCC Collection Jobs are used to trigger the collection of availability and performance metrics of an
underlying managed resource

Each job is configured to execute a trigger on a pre-defined schedule (one time, specific time period,
repeat indefinitely)

A default collection is started for every resource to provide availability information

Additional collections are available for each product type

Collection frequency can be controlled by the SCC administrator

Security Features
Security Features

The authorization mechanism employs login accounts and task-based roles

SCC can authenticate user logins through:
Operating system of the SCC server machine
LDAP directory service
SCC native user accounts

You grant SCC permissions to a login account by assigned predefined roles (sccUserRole and
sccAdminRole).

You can map native roles to SCC predefined roles through a configuration file.

You will also register and authenticate to the managed Sybase servers.
Sybase IQ can authenticate through native logins or Kerberos

2012 SAP AG. All rights reserved. 38

Configure IQ for SCC Monitoring

Authenticating to IQ as a user with DBA authority provides full access to SCC monitoring.

To grant a non-DBA user SCC monitoring access, do the following:

Using Interactive SQL or another SQL command tool, execute scc_iq_monitor_privileges_setup.sql, located
in the directory $SCC_HOME/plugins/IQMAP.
Assign the user to the SCC_MONITOR group.

2012 SAP AG. All rights reserved. 39

Configure IQ for SCC Administration

To perform administration tasks from SCC

The Sybase IQ server you want to manage has an SCC agent running on the same machine
From SCC, you must register and authenticate to the SCC agent running on the IQ machine
From SCC, you must authenticate to Sybase IQ as a user with monitoring permissions and the correct
authorities or group membership to perform particular administration tasks

Log Files

There are 4 log files useful for diagnosis:

SCC Server log files: <SCC-install-directory>/log/agent.log , <SCC-install-directory>/ /log/gateway.log
IQMAP log file: <SCC-install-directory>/ plugins/IQMAP/log/iqmap.log
IQAP log file: <SCC-install-directory>/ plugins/com.sybase.iq/log/iqap.log

Change IQMAPs log level:

Modify IQMAPs Log4J configuration file: <SCC-install-directory>/ /plugins/IQMAP/IQMapLog4j.properties. E.g.,
log4j.logger.com.sybase.ua.plugins.iqmap=DEBUG, iqmapuaf, iqmapfile
log4j.logger.com.sybase.iq.sdk=DEBUG, iqmapuaf, iqmapfile

IQMAP supports five logging levels:

INFO
WARNING
ERROR
DEBUG
OFF
