Spring… and the angels sing!
Endlich ist es soweit: Die bes-
sere Hälfte des Jahres ist zurück
und mit ihr jener exzellente Hor-
moncocktail in unseren Venen
und das große Sprießen und Blü-
hen vor unseren Augen. Aber sprie-
ßen ist eigentlich nicht das rich-
tige Wort, nein- Es wuchert gera-
dezu da draußen! Einen buchstäb-
lich pfundigen Beweis hierfür hältst
du in deinen Händen… Der seit
langem seitenstärkste mushroom
schreit es uns geradezu entgegen:
Die Trance Szene lebt wieder! Das
haben wir spätestens gemerkt, als
unsere Summer Festival Map in den
ersten Stunden beeindruckende
4590-mal aufgerufen wurde! Und in
Punkto Internet hat uns noch etwas
anderes schwer beeindruckt: Die
sozialen Medien. Es ist eine lange
Geschichte, aber die User unserer
mushroom Facebook Seite haben
uns diesmal sogar in letzter Minute
ein schickes Titelbild beschert.
Schwerpunktmäßig geht es in die-
ser Ausgabe -war ja klar- um unsere
sommerlichen Lieblingsbeschäfti-
gungen, die wir aus ganz verschie-
denen Perspektiven beleuchten.
Und last but not least treibt auch
unser Abo Service neue Blüten, und
zwar sehr musikalische: Bis zu 10

ten, zur Auswahl stehen ab sofort
unter anderem ganz neue Compila-

Finally she is back, at least on the
Northern hemisphere: The better
half of the year and with her that
excellent hormone cocktail in our
veins and the big sprouting and
blooming in front of our eyes. But
sprout is actually not the appro-
priate word, no- it is really grow-

ing rampant outside! A great prove
for that is staring right in your face:
The most extensive mushroom since
quite some time shouts out loud:
The Trance scene is alive! We rea-
lized that at the latest when our
Summer Festival Map was retrie-
ved impressing 4590 times already
within the very first hours! And
there is also another aspect of the
Internet that really impressed us:
Social media. It is a long story but in
the end the users of our mushroom
Facebook page even provided us
with a stylish cover picture this time
at the very last minute. The main
emphasis of the available issue is
put on our favourite summer week-
end activities, of course. We throw
light on them from many different
angles. And last but not least also
our subscription service is in new
blossom, in a very musical blossom:

Psytrance Festival Special
Herzlichen Dank zunächst an alle,
die unserem Aufruf zur Sommerum-
frage gefolgt sind und uns ihre Vor-
lieben und Erwartungen bezüglich
der diesjährigen Freiluftsaison ver-
raten haben! Ansichten und Mei-
nungen gibt es sicher so viele wie
Psy Trance Liebhaber. Leider kön-
nen wir dieses ausgesprochen viel-
farbige Meinungsspektrum hier nur
vereinfacht nachzeichnen; schließ-

lich würde es nicht nur den Rah-
men sprengen, sondern wäre auch
schlichtweg unübersichtlich, die vie-
len hundert Meinungen nebenei-
nander zu stellen. Aber gerade hie-
rin besteht ja auch der Sinn einer

Wenn es um die Sommervorsorge
geht, plant die Szene langfristig: Mehr
als die Hälfte gaben an, einen Festi-
valbesuch lange im Voraus anzuvisie-
ren, der Rest setzt sich zu etwa glei-
chen Teilen aus Spontanen und Teilzeit-
spontanen zusammen. Die Verfügbar-
keit von Urlaub scheint dabei eine eher
untergeordnete Rolle zu spielen, denn
nur etwa 6% benannten diesen Faktor
als wichtigsten Grund, warum sie sich
für ein Festival entscheiden. Wesent-
lich bedeutender ist das Lineup: Jeder
Dritte macht seine Entscheidung für
oder gegen einen Open Air Besuch von
einem vielversprechenden Musikpro-
gramm abhängig. Durchaus nachvoll-
ziehbar, denn im Endeffekt geht es bei
diesen Manövern ja auch ums Tanzen.
Ein spektakulärer Austragungsort ist
ebenfalls attraktiv, 18% gaben dies als
wichtigsten Grund für den Festivalbe-
such an. Und für ebenso viele sind es
möglichst viele Freunde, die zu tref-
fen einen Open Air Besuch besonders
interessant macht. Kerstin schrieb uns
über Facebook: “Es geht nicht nur um
Geld oder die Größe eines Festivals -
es geht um den Vibe und die Energie!”
Damit spricht sie gewiss vielen aus der
Seele. Und doch ist dies nur die eine
Seite der Medaille; denn hinter diesem
gefühlten Vibe und jener Energie steckt
eben doch eine ganze Menge Kalkül
und auch Geld - ich empfehle an dieser
Hinsicht den Festival Inside Report in
der vorliegenden Ausgabe.

Was die Anreise angeht, so ist nur die
Hälfte bereit, hierfür auf die eigent-
lich umweltfreundlicheren, wenn auch
etwas unkomfortablen öffentlichen
Verkehrsmitteln zu setzen. Vermut-
lich sind diese Personen deckungs-
gleich mit jenen 50%, die angaben, für
ein paar Tage auf gewisse Annehmlich-
keiten des Alltags wie viele Kleider zum
Wechseln, tägliches Duschen etc. ver-
zichten zu können. Dennoch haben
auffällig viele Umfrageteilnehmer in
ihren Kommentaren an die Veranstal-
ter die Wichtigkeit von ausreichend
sauberen sanitären Anlagen betont,
insgesamt 52% sehen hier den größ-
ten Nachbesserungsbedarf auf Festi-
vals. Unsere Interviews mit verschie-
denen Veranstaltern belegen übrigens,
dass auch auf deren Seite Wasser von
oben und menschliche Exkremente ein
großes Thema sind…
Kein großes Thema mehr ist dagegen
der ursprünglich vegetarische Geist
von Trance Festivals: Nur 23% lehnen
den Verkauf von Fleisch auf Open Airs
ab, 37% ist dieses Thema gleichgültig
und die Mehrheit von 40% bejaht aus-
drücklich das Vorhandensein fleisch-
licher Gaumenfreuden. Ähnlich wie

bezüglich der Hygieneerwartungen »Liebe Veranstalter, ganz herz-

Gemeinschaft erkennen, wie sie in ver-
gangenen Epochen anzutreffen war.
Sehnsüchte nach bestimmten Festivals
gibt es natürlich sehr viele verschie-
dene. Interessant ist jedoch, dass sich
die große Beliebtheit der Ozora aus
dem letzten Jahr fortsetzt: Sie wird von
den meisten Umfrageteilnehmern mit
besonders freudiger Erwartung her-
beigewünscht und hängt somit sogar
die Boom in Portugal ab! Heiß herbei
gesehnt werden außerdem die Antaris
und das Fusion Festival.
Zu guter letzt wäre deine Goa Bravo
natürlich nicht komplett ohne die
Top 3 der angesagten Accessoires für
die kommende Freiluftsaison, die wir
in mühevollster Recherche ermitteln
konnten. Platz 3 belegt ein unspektaku-
lärer Dauerbrenner, nämlich die Son-
nenbrille. Viel trendiger ist da schon
Platz 2: Das Gehirn zum Wechseln!
Aber am angesagtesten auf den Floors
dieser Welt ist im kommenden Som-
mer… Der seifenblasenspuckende
Rasenmäher!
Thanks a lot to all those who fol-
lowed our call and took part in
our summer survey to tell us their
preferences and expectations for
this year’s open air season! For
sure there are as many views
and opinions as there are Trance
lovers in this world. Unfortuna-
tely, we can draw this really mul-
ticoloured spectrum of opinions
only in a simplified way; for it
would not only blast the length of
this article but also become con-
fusing to put all the hundreds of
different opinions just side by
side. But exactly this is the quality
of a survey or a statistic: To show
trends by subsuming single opi-
nions into tendencies. And thanks
to social media like Facebook, we
are still able to hear individual
voices in the end! With this in
mind: Here we go with the results
of our summer survey!
When it comes to summer provi-
sions, the scene plans carefully:
Half of the participants answered
to plan way ahead before going to
a specific festival. The rest consists
in equal parts of spontaneous and
part-time spontaneous ones. The
availability of holidays is a secon-
dary player in this respect, because
only 6% named this reason as the
most important one when deciding
for a festival. The lineup is much
more interesting: Every third person
decides for or against an open air
depending on the musical program.
Quite comprehensible, because
it is dancing what these manoeu-
vres are about in the end. A specta-
cular venue is also attractive, 18%
named this as the most important
reason why they decide in favor of
a festival. And the same number is
interested in meeting friends above
all and looks especially for festivals
where many of them is going to.

Are you influenced by the
police control when deci-
ding to drive to a festival ?

and size of a festival… it’s about
vibe and energy!” For sure she
says exactly what many Trancers
are thinking. But still it is just one
side of the medal; because this vibe
and that particular energy include
quite a lot of consideration and also
money in the end. I advise you to
take a look at the Festival Inside
Report in the available issue.
Concerning the journey to a festi-
val, only half of the participants
are willing to use actually more
ecologic though a little less com-
fortable public transport. These
ones might be congruent with
those 50% who said that they are
willing to go without certain eve-
ryday comforts like lots of clothes
to change or daily showers for a
few days. Nevertheless, a conspicu-
ous number of people emphasized
the importance of sufficient, clean
sanitary facilities in their comments
for the festival promoters, 52% see
an urgent need for improvement at
events in this respect. By the way:
Our interviews with several promo-
ters confirm that water from above
and human excrements are really
serious issues for them, too…
No serious issue any more is the
originally vegetarian spirit of Trance
festivals: Only 23% object to meat
being sold at open airs, 37% don’t
care about this issue and the majo-
rity of 40% explicitly approves
the availability of meat delicacies.
Similarly to the expectations con-
cerning hygiene, this reveals kind of
a paradigm shift within the scene, at
least for those who have been cele-
brating Psy Trance for a while now.
What remained pretty much the
same in comparison are the musi-
cal preferences. The results of the
survey draw a pretty conserva-
tive picture in this respect: Good,
old Psy Trance is expected by 23%
of the festival visitors, the same
number prefers Progressive Trance
and also Full On and Ambient is
appreciated by quite a part of the
scene with 19% resp. 16% naming
these styles to be their most wan-
ted ones. Other, rather new styles
as Dark Psy and Nu School / Techno
are appreciated only by a minority.
Numerous comments like “Take a
look at the style of the parties of
the late 90s!” – “Back to the roots,
spirit and feeling instead of tech-
nical overdose!” – “Where has the
Psy Trance gone?” or »Focus on the
core group of Psy Trance fans; don‘t
make it too attractive for outsiders-
They simply don‘t catch our spi-
rit and way of celebrating!” reveal a
desire for a closed Trance commu-
nity like it used to be in past eras.
Concerning desires for special festi-
vals, again there are very much dif-
ferent ones. But it is interesting to
see that the popularity of Ozora
that could be witnessed already last
year, obviously continues: This festi-
val is most longed for in eager anti-
cipation, even more than Boom
in Portugal! But also Antaris and
Fusion are highly anticipated.
Last but not least, your Goa Pop-
star magazine would not be com-
plete without a Top 3 of the hottest
accessories for the coming open air
season, which we have been inve-
stigating very carefully. Coming in
third, is quite a boring long runner,
the sunglasses. Much trendier is
place number 2: A change of brain!
But the fanciest accessory for world
wide dance floors during the upco-
ming summer is… The soap-bub-
bles-blowing-lawnmower!

rung und Routine und viele Kontakte,
sonst wird alles sehr, sehr teuer. Ein
Fest, das einen sechsstelligen Betrag
kostet, ist ein Mega-Risiko: Stürme,
Regen oder unvorhergesehene Ereig-
nisse, z.B. plötzliche Änderungen von
Gesetzen oder ihre Handhabung, kön-
nen das Festival vereiteln.“ (Tomrom,

it takes long-year experience and rou-
tine as well as many contacts- other-
wise it will become a very, very expen-
sive issue. A party that costs a six-
figure amount of money is mega risky:
Storms, rain or other unpredictable
events like sudden amendments to a
law or its application can thwart the
entire festival.”

Der druckvolle Sound massiert
wohlig die Bauchdecke, auf den
gewaltigen Schwarzlichtmale-
reien am Rande der Tanzflächen
öffnen sich die Portale zu frem-
den Welten und über dem Kopf
wogt die Lasershow in einem
Meer aus Licht und Farben… So
soll es sein, wenn eines unserer
geliebten Festivals in vollem Gang
ist! Was man in einem solchen
Moment jedoch nicht bemerkt,
ist der gewaltige Berg Arbeit und
Geld, der in diesem Spektakel
steckt. Daher möchten wir Euch in
dieser Ausgabe nicht nur die vie-
len verschiedenen Freiluftvergnü-
gungen der Sommersaison vor-
stellen, sondern auch einen Ein-
blick hinter ihre Kulissen und
somit in die Welt der Festivalor-
ganisation geben.
Nach dem Festival ist vor dem Festi-
val! Und so gehen die Vorberei-
tungen meist schon los, kaum dass
der letzte Beat verklungen ist: Was
war gut? Was kann besser gemacht
werden? Auf dieser Grundlage wird
der Plan fürs nächste Jahr entwi-
ckelt. Dieser muss jedoch in Ein-
klang mit den Anforderungen der
Behörden stehen; den wenigsten
ist bewusst, wie viele Auflagen es
gibt, z.B. hinsichtlich bestimmter
Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsstan-
dards, und wie peinlich genau sol-
che Auflagen definiert sind und kon-
trolliert werden. Aber auch Du hat-
test sicher schon Deine Erfahrungen
mit Ämtern und kannst so vielleicht
erahnen, wie viel Arbeit hier lauert.
Wenigstens kann man diese Aufga-
ben vom geheizten Büro aus erle-
digen, denn draußen ist es mittler-
weile Winter geworden. Und späte-
stens nun gilt es noch etwas anderes
anzugehen, was ebenfalls ziemlich
arbeitsaufwändig ist: Die Planung
des Lineups. Sie zieht sich oft über
viele Monate, denn für ein mehrtä-
giges Festival werden natürlich eine
ganze Reihe Künstler gebucht. In die-
sem Zusammenhang gibt es etliche
Absprachen zu treffen, Verträge zu
schließen und Flüge zu buchen. Auch
Hotelzimmer wollen bestellt und der
Shuttle-Service koordiniert sein.
Das Booking ist aber nicht nur aus-
gesprochen zeitaufwändig, es hat
auch einen entscheidenden Vor-
teil für den Veranstalter, wenn es
erst einmal erledigt ist: Wie ihr
unserer Sommerumfrage entneh-
men könnt, ist das Lineup nämlich
ein sehr wichtiger Faktor, der das
Festival für die Besucher interessant
macht. Damit wären wir beim näch-

sten Schritt: Der Werbung. In Zeiten
des Web 2.0 läuft diese meist ohne-
hin kontinuierlich, aber spätestens
wenn sich der Frühling bemerkbar
macht, sollte es richtig losgehen: Die
Flyer kommen aus der Druckerei
und müssen unter‘s Volk gebracht
und gleichzeitig unzählige Posts im
Internet verbreitet werden, auch
steht nun umfangreiche Pressear-
beit an. Voraussetzung ist natürlich,
dass die Festivalseite bereits online
ist und alle Fotos, Logos etc. stehen.
Von jetzt ab geht es Schlag auf
Schlag. Bei vielen Veranstaltern wer-
den die Teams umso größer, je län-
ger die Tage werden. Das Deko-
und Lichtkonzept muss aufgestellt
und die damit beauftragten Künstler
koordiniert werden. Die Aufbauar-
beiten auf dem Gelände starten auf
der Boom einige Monate, auf der
Antaris etwa 10 Tage vor dem Festi-
valstart. Unabhängig davon wird es
aber wirklich überall in den letzten
Tagen so richtig schön hektisch und
stressig…
Was dann kommt, kennt ihr ja alle
- siehe Einleitung. Aber ganz vorbei
ist es auch dann noch nicht, wenn
Du bereits wieder in Deinem hei-
mischen Bettchen schlummerst.
Irgendjemand muss ja auch noch
aufräumen… Und für diese unlieb-
same Aufgabe ist leider oftmals
plötzlich keiner mehr da. Daher ist
es schlau, sich Helfer zu suchen,
die gar nicht mitfeiern, sondern nur
zum Saubermachen anrücken.
Ähnlich kompliziert wie die Orga-
nisation eines Festivals war es für
mich, die vielen Informationen
in diese wenigen Zeilen zu quet-
schen. Daher veröffentlichen wir auf
mushroom-online.com die ausführ-
lichen, spannenden Einzelinterviews
mit den Veranstaltern, denen wir an
dieser Stelle herzlich danken!

That’s just the way it should be when
one of our beloved festivals is in
full swing. But what you won’t rea-
lize in such a moment is all the loads
of work and money that have been
invested to make this dream come
true. For this reason, we not only
want to present you all the vari-
ous outdoor pleasures in this issue,
but also to provide you with some
insights behind the scenes of our
favourite summer activity: Welcome
to the world of festival organization!
After the festival is before the festival!
And that is why the preparations start
just when the last beats have faded
away: What worked out well? What
should be improved? On this basis, the
plans for the next year are evolved.
But they have to be in keeping with the
laws; only few festival visitors are aware
of all the existing requirements, for exa-
mple concerning security and health
standards, and how rigorously they are
formulated and controlled. But for sure
you got your experience with authori-
ties, too so perhaps you also have an
idea how much work lies in wait here.

Sessel zu entsorgen. Schlimm auch die

müssen alle Löcher sorgfältig wieder
zugebuddelt werden, das sind oft hun-
derte, die die Gäste als Privattoilet-
te oder Mülleimer verwenden. Leider
wirkt sich das dann auch auf die Ein-
trittspreise aus.“

rubbish bins or private toilets by visi-

the entry fee.”

der Besucher mal den Eintrittspreis und
denken dann, die Veranstalter würden Mil-
lionen machen. In Wahrheit jedoch geben
diese auch enorme Summen aus: Um die
Boom auf die Beine zu stellen, brauchen
wir zum Beispiel mindestens 3,5 – 4 Milli-
onen Euro! So erreicht unser Festival sei-
nen Break-Even niemals nur durch die Ein-
trittsgelder. “

se they don‘t know how much we spend
and how much is required. They just do it
the easiest way: They multiply the number
of people with the prices of tickets. And
they think promoters get millions. Fact is,
we spend millions and we never get thou-
sands: To produce Boom we need a mini-
mum of 3.5 - 4 million Euros! That is why
Boom never gets the break-even point
only with its entrance fees.”

At least all this tasks can be dealt with in
the heated office because outside it has
become winter in the meantime. At the
latest now, there also is another issue
to start with: The planning of the lineup.
This often takes several months because
many artists are invited for a festival that
runs several days. And so many agree-
ments have to be made, contracts have
to be worked out and flights as well as
hotel rooms have to be booked. Also, the
shuttle service has to be coordinated.
But the booking process is not only very
time-consuming but it also represents a
decisive advantage for the promoter: For,
as you can also read in the results of our
summer survey, the lineup is an impor-
tant factor when it comes to the decision
whether to go to a festival or not. And
this takes us right to the next step: The
promotion. Though in times of Web 2.0
it is kind of a continuous process, seri-
ous promotion should start at the latest
when spring is approaching: Now the fly-
ers are delivered from the printers and
have to be widely distributed. Also count-
less internet posts have to be placed and
extensive media communication begins.
Of course, this requires that the website
of the festival is already online and all the
photos, logos etc. are set up.
Things come thick and fast now. With
the days getting longer and longer, also
the teams around the promoters grow
bigger and bigger from day to day. The
decoration and light concept has to
become definite and the artists char-
ged with this issue have to be coordi-
nated. For example, the construction
works at the site of the Boom start a
few months before the festival actually
begins and about 10 days before Antaris
takes off. Independently of that concern,
it gets really, really hectic and stress-
ful at every open air during the last days
before the event.
You all know, what’s next: See intro-
duction. But actually it still ain’t over
when you are already having a nap in
your cosy bed at home again. Because
still somebody has to do the clean-
up works… Unfortunately, often there
is suddenly nobody left for this rather
unpleasant job so it is quite a smart idea
to get some helpers who don’t attend
the actual party but only show up for
the cleaning.
It was as complicated as organizing a
festival for me to put all the informa-
tion into these few lines. Therefore
we are publishing the extensive, exci-
ting interviews with the promoters on

Native Instruments Kontrol X1

Obwohl Native Instruments gar nicht auf der Musikmesse vertreten war, konnte ihre berühmte Software Traktor an fast
jeder Ecke gesichtet werden. Passend dazu gibt es nun den hauseigenen Kontrol X1, der als kreative Ergänzung für Trak-
tor Scratch DJs oder auch als minimale Komplettlösung für Laptopjockeys
fungiert. Solide verarbeitet erlaubt das Gerät einen intuitiven Zugriff auf alle
Loop- und Effektparameter der Software oder kann zur Bedienung eines voll-
ständig virtuellen DJ Setups genutzt werden.

Its size has a good reason: The jog wheel keeps spinning like a
classical turntable, if desired! Additionally, this controller features

Jahren vereinzelte Beiträge auf
Compilations erste Aufmerksam-
keit für Avalon weckten, hat das
Projekt einen geradezu kome-
tenhaften Aufstieg durchlaufen.
Heute zählt das kreative Werk
des aus Großbritannien stam-
menden Leon Kane bereits zu den
verlässlichen Anhaltspunkten für
hochgradig energetischen, aus-
gelassenen und vor allem intelli-
gent gemachten Full On, wie sich
am durchweg guten Feedback aus
allen Ecken der Welt zeigt.
Ein genauerer Blick auf Leons musi-
kalische Karriere offenbart, dass Ava-
lon nicht für seine ersten Versuche
als elektronischer Produzent steht:
Bevor er das Soloprojekt gründete,
war er bereits zusammen mit Alex
EVP von Wildthings Records unter
dem Pseudonym Reality Grid aktiv.
Sein hieraus resultierendes musi-
kalisches Weltenbummlertum hat
also durchaus schon längere Tradi-
tion und führte ihn an so manch exo-
tischen Ort. In dieser Hinsicht ste-
hen im laufenden Jahr zwei spekta-
kuläre Einladungen an: Zum einen
zur Honu Eclipse auf den Osterin-
seln und zum anderen zum Mafia
Island Festival vor der Ostküste Afri-
kas. Eine entscheidende Stufe in
Leons musikalischem Werdegang fin-
det sich im Jahre 2009, als er näm-
lich bei Nano Records unter Vertrag
genommen wurde. Und genau hier
erschien auch Ende März sein Debü-
talbum „Distant Futures“. Die Bässe
seiner Produktionen repräsentieren
die energetischen und aufrührenden
Aspekte des Lebens, darüber entfal-
ten sich jedoch sehr lichte und ent-
spannte Rhythmusmuster und Klang-
schichten. Insgesamt wirkt alles recht
anspruchsvoll und intelligent arran-
giert. Leon selbst bezeichnet seinen
Stil als „Funky Full On Psy Trance- mit
raffinierten Wendungen!“
Since occasional compilation con-
tributions caused a first stir of
interest for Avalon only three to
four years ago, the project has
seen a really meteoric advan-
cement. Today the creative pro-
duct of UK hailing Leon Kane
appears to be a reliable clue for
highly energetic, highly frisky and
-above all- highly intelligent Full
On music, as the thoroughly great
feedback from all around the
world is proving.
A closer look at Leon’s musi-
cal career reveals Avalon not to
be his first attempt as a producer.
He was already very involved with
the act Reality Grid together with
Alex EVP from Wildthings Records
before he started the solo project.
So his ongoing musical globetrot-
ting has become kind of a long-year
habit and took him to both exo-
tic and adventurous sites. In this
respect, his invitations to the spec-
tacular festivals Honu Eclipse on the
Easter Islands and Mafia Island at
the coast of East Africa will surely
be highlights of the current year.
Leon’s musical career reached ano-
ther level when he signed with
Nano Records in 2009 and here
his debut album “Distant Futures”
will be launched in late March. The
bass sections of his productions
represent the energetic and driving
aspects of life while the percussive
elements and spacey sound layers

PART Y HIGHLIGHTS
Aus einem Treffen von 3500 Leu-
ten aus ein paar Ländern im Jahre
1997 ist die Boom auf 25.000 Besu-
cher aus 85 Ländern im Jahre 2008
gewachsen. Das Festival ist größer
geworden und hat neue Dimensio-
nen erreicht, jedoch herrscht allge-
meines Einverständnis darüber, dass
es nach seinen eigenen Werten
gewachsen ist. Es berührte nie kom-
merzielle Gefilde: Die Boom war
immer viel, viel mehr als ein Dance-
floor mit möglichst großen Namen
auf dem Lineup. Einer ganz eigenen
Vision von zeitgenössischer psyche-
delischer Kultur folgend, verbindet
sie Musik, Malerei, Illustration, The-
ater, Kino, Vorträge und Workshops.
Auch war sie stets wegweisend in
Punkto nachhaltigem, umweltorien-
tiertem Festival. Und schließlich ist
die Boom unabhängig, sie ist eine
No-Logo Zone ohne Werbung und
Marken. Sie hat die Regungen des
Zeitgeistes aufgegriffen, ohne ihre
psychedelischen Wurzeln zu verges-
sen. So war auf Chaishop.com oder
im mexikanischen Trance-It Maga-
zin in einem Artikel von Sam Jan-
kowski zu lesen: „Die Boom ist psy-
chedelischer als die moderne Psy
Trance Szene“.
Was die Boom neben dem visio-
nären Aspekt ihres Programms zu
etwas Besonderem macht, ist ihre
menschliche Seite: Sie ist das größte
Stammestreffen in Form eines psy-
chedelischen Happenings.
Menschen verschiedener Herkunft
tauschen sich auf der Boom aus,
und das wesentlich intensiver als
auf irgendeinem anderen Festival.
Während der Boom wird ein enger
Kontakt zwischen Menschen ver-
schiedener Nationalitäten herge-
stellt und so ein sehr persönliches
und tiefgründiges Kennenlernen
„des Anderen“ ermöglicht. Nur mit
Hilfe dieser Begegnungen ist es
den Menschen möglich, über ihre
Klischees hinweg zu kommen.
Erst dann können sich ihre typisch
menschlichen Verhaltensweisen
voll entfalten: Kooperieren, Tei-
len, emotionale Beziehungen auf-
bauen, Lernen vom „Anderen“ -
und auf dieser Grundlage schließ-
lich eine Veränderung des eigenen
Verhaltens, der eigenen Einstel-
lung erfahren und eine neue Defi-
nition von „Ich“ und „die anderen“
erlangen. So entsteht eine neue
Form der Achtsamkeit, die wahre
Bedeutung von psychedelisch.
Wir können ein Festival auf man-
nigfache Weise definieren und
unserer Fantasie freien Lauf las-
sen, um das zu benennen, was
wir da erleben. Aber wenn wir uns
einfach auf „das andere“ einlas-
sen, verstehen wir, dass ein Fes-
tival wie die Boom weit über das
reine Vergnügen hinausgeht. Sie
vermag die Neuerfindung zwi-
schenmenschlicher Beziehungen,
und wenn dem wirklich so ist, tun
wir etwas sehr Edles: Wir gestalten
eine neue Zivilisation.

From 1997 to 2010 Boom
keeps tracking the uncharted
territories of psychedelia and
collective shamanism. Tribes
from the entire world meet
and celebrate the biggest
union of psy-trance lovers.
Every two years, since 1997, the
August Full Moon witnesses an
activation of a portal. Every two
years, Boom Festival gathers the
tribes to celebrate life, art and
nature. ‚We Are One‘ and ‚We
Are All‘ were mottos that con-
nected psy-trancers with the
true meaning of collective trance
and psychedelic awareness: the
contact with something magic,
universal and representative of
the union between mankind
and the cosmos. The awakening
of a universal being.
From a gathering of 3,500 peo-
ple in 1997 from a few coun-
tries, Boom grew into 25,000
from 85 countries in 2008. The
festival got bigger and reached
new levels but it is commonly
accepted that Boom grew by
its own means and message. It
never went into the domains of
commercialism: never adopted
the easy strategy of big names
in its line ups; it always empha-
sized much more than a dance
floor-based festival; it connects
music, paint, installations, the-
atre, cinema or conventions
under the concept of psychede-
lic and visionary culture. It is a
pioneer in environmental pro-
jects for festivals. Plus, Boom is
independent, it is a no-corpo-
rate logo area. It has been assi-
milating the mutations of time
and art never forgetting its psy-
chedelic roots. As could be read
in chaishop.com or in the maga-
zine Trance-It, from Mexico, back
in 2008 “Boom is more psy-
chedelic than the modern psy-
trance scene”, in an article writ-
ten by Sam Jankowski.
What makes Boom special, besi-
des all the visionary aspects of
its program, is the human side:
Boom is the biggest gathering of
tribes in a psychedelic event.
People from different cultures
interconnect at Boom, much
more than in any other festival.
During Boom close contact is
made between different people
of various nationalities allowing
for a more profound and per-
sonal knowledge of the “other”.
It is through these interperso-
nal relationships that individu-
als can begin to rid themsel-
ves of stereotypes. And then the
most genuine of human beha-
viours begin to appear natu-
rally: cooperation, sharing, crea-

ting affective
bonds, learning from
the “other” and, lastly, change,
change of behaviour, change of
attitude, a new notion of “I” and
“other”. This forms a base for a
new kind of awareness. The true
meaning of psychedelia.
We can define a festival in a
number of ways and use our
imagination to name what we
experience. But, at the end of
the day, if we just open up to
the “other”, we will understand
that the experience of a festi-
val like Boom goes way
beyond having fun,
it can come
to sym-
bolize
the rein-
vention
of relati-
onships bet-
ween human
beings and, if so, we are doing
something noble: building a
new civilization.

Dass es der deutschen Haupt-
stadt nicht gerade an kulturel-
lem Potential mangelt, ist kein
Geheimnis. Den vielleicht far-
benprächtigsten Ausdruck fin-
det diese Tatsache alljährlich
im Karneval der Kulturen. Und
natürlich darf bei diesem kun-
terbunten Treiben auch die
Trance Szene nicht fehlen!
Rund 100 aufwändig dekorierte
Wagen aus unterschiedlichsten
Kulturen ziehen bereits am Nach-
mittag durch die Straßen Kreuz-
bergs - begleitet von einer Menge
tobender Freaks. Diese ausgelas-
sene Stimmung wird dann Abends
auf der Multasm aufgegriffen:
Ganz entspannt geht es von vie-
len verschiedenen Stationen mit
dem Shuttlebus zu einer weit-
läufigen Location im Süden der
Stadt, wo auf gleich vier verschie-
denen Floors auf drei Ebenen ein
vielfarbiges Musikprogramm zwi-
schen Psychedelic, Dark, Full On,
Progressive, Ambient und Down-
beat entrollt wird. Der spektaku-
läre, nächtliche Höhepunkt des
Karnevals der Kulturen ist übrigens
ökologisch korrekt: Der Veranstal-
ter EssentiaXperience ist in einem
Projekt aktiv, dass um die Kom-
pensierung des CO2 Aus-
stoßes durch Aufforstung
bemüht ist.
It is not a big secret that the
German capital Berlin is eve-
rything but poor in cultural poten-
tial. Its probably most colourful
expression is represented by the
Carnival of Cultures year by year.
And of course the Trance scene
should not be missing during this
cheerful hustle and bustle!
Already during the afternoon around
100 lavishly decorated trucks cruise
the streets of the popular district
Kreuzberg, accompanied by a rom-
ping crowd of freaks. This frisky
atmosphere is taken up at the Mul-
tasm party in the evening: A shut-
tle bus connects the vast venue in
the South of the city with numerous
stops. Arriving here, the guests are
welcomed by four different dance
floors at three different levels. The
musical program enrolled here con-
sists of an entertaining mixture of Psy-
chedelic, Dark, Full On, Progressive,
Ambient and Downbeat. The spec-
tacular, nightly highlight of the Carni-
val of Cultures is ecologically correct
by the way: The promoter EssentiaX-
perience is engaged in a project that
endeavours to compensate the CO2
emission by reforestation.

Einerseits bietet die Psychedelic
Experience mit ihrer aufwendigen
Gestaltung und einem spektaku-
lären Musikprogramm ein buch-
stäblich großes Erlebnis für ein
internationales Publikum. Ander-
seits bewahrt sie jedoch auch den
freakig-familiären Flair, der auf
vielen Großveranstaltungen leider
mehr und mehr verloren geht.
Dass dieses Konzept ganz wunder-
bar aufgegangen ist, zeigte sich im
letzten Jahr nicht nur in Form des all-
gegenwärtigen breiten Grinsens auf
den Gesichtern der Besucher. Neben
der angenehm untergründigen Atmo-
sphäre zielt auch die musikalische
Idee der Psychedelic Experience
darauf ab, dem Namen der Veranstal-
tung gerecht zu werden: Der Schwer-
punkt liegt eindeutig auf kraftvollem,
treibenden Psychedelic Sound, jedoch
werden im Laufe des Wochenendes
all die verschiedenen Stilrichtungen
der heutigen Szene zu hören sein.
Dafür wurde ein bunt gemischtes Line
Up aus Deutschland, Italien und der
Schweiz zusammengestellt, das wäh-
rend der Veranstaltung einen tran-
cigen Spannungsbogen ent-
falten wird. Für eine
sommerliche
Erfrischung eig-
net sich dann
der klare Badesee, der nur einen
kurzen Spaziergang von der Loca-
tion entfernt ist. Und dass man all dies
auch ganz entspannt genießen kann,
dafür gibt es in diesem Jahr einen
besonderen Bonus: Der Termin fällt
auf das Pfingstwochenende, so dass
der Montag im wahrsten Sinne des
Wortes ein Feiertag ist!
Made up somewhat in the middle
between small and huge, Psyche-
delic Experience features a very
attractive size: On the one hand it
offers the subcultural variation and
international flair of a really big
festival; on the other hand it still
keeps that certain underground
vibe which unfortunately is getting
lost more and more at big events.
The omnipresent smile on visitor’s faces
at the festival site as well as very good
feedback in the internet proves that this
approach worked out very well during
the past years. Beside the special under-
ground flair, also the musical program
is eager to keep what the name of the
festival implies: The focus definitely
remains on strong, powerful Psy Trance
music but during the weekend all the
different styles of nowadays scene can
be lisenend to. For that, a coloured mix-
ture of artists from Germany, Italy and
Switzerland has been lined up. Getting
sweaty from excessive dancing seems
to be unavoidable therefore a
nearby lake offers the per-
fect opportunity for a nice
summer refreshment.

Spannende Neuigkeiten gibt es rund um
jene magische Pyramide, welche diesem
Festival seinen Namen verleiht: So wird
sie in dieser Saison nicht in Ungarn,
sondern in direkter Nähe des Goa-
Highway 24 zu sichten sein. Fortan ist
nämlich ein jährlicher Wechsel zwischen
Ungarn und Deutschland geplant, damit
es auch ja nicht langweilig wird.
Wobei dafür eigentlich ohnehin keine
Gefahr besteht: Das Musikprogramm
auf zwei Dancefloors und im
liebevoll gestalteten Chill Out verspricht
ursprünglich-psychedelisches Vergnü-
gen vom Feinsten, selbiges gilt auch für
die angeheuerten vier Dekoteams. Eine
weitere Neuigkeit wird die Stimmung
wohl noch zusätzlich ankurbeln:
Zum „Herrentag“ am 13.05. werden
nämlich um Punkt 12 Uhr Mittags für
alle Festivalgäste 20 Fässer Freibier
angestochen; natürlich auch für die
Damen! Ein gestaffelter Eintrittspreis,
der sich Samstagabend ab 18 Uhr auf
35 und Sonntag ab 10 Uhr auf 12 Euro
reduziert, zeigt, dass man den Besu-
chern der Pyramiduna ein ungetrübtes
Vergnügen bieten möchte und macht
das Open Air auch für Tagesgäste und
Kurzentschlossene interessant.

Another innovation will stimulate the

Father’s Day in Germany namely, also

grube von Rauchenwarth bei Wien wie-
der in ein Sternen-Kaleidoskop ver-
wandeln. Der Dancefloor wird heuer
von Calaquendi zu einem Alien-Tempel
mit 12 Säulen ausgebaut und die Back-
drops stehen ganz im Zeichen von Ava-
tar. Projektionen, 3D-Visuals, Dekora-
tionen und Lasershows werden dem
angepasst. Knapp 100 DJs und Live-
Acts aus 16 Ländern und vier Konti-
nenten spielen sechs Tage ohne Pausen
durch. Der Schwerpunkt des Line Up
liegt auch heuer wieder auf Progressive
Trance, aber auch Full On-Psy, Dark-
Psy, Oldschool und spaciger Ambient
werden nicht zu kurz kommen. Künst-

Infected Mushroom wurde um ein
spezielles Oldschool Set gebeten
und auch Astral Projection, Eat Sta-
tic, Space Tribe oder der Highlight
Tribe stehen für ursprüngliches, psy-
chedelisches Vergnügen. Daneben
gibt es noch haufenweise andere
Musik zu entdecken: Von aku-
stischen Konzerten bis hin zu Elek-
tro ist das Soundspektrum dieser
Veranstaltung so breit, wie es nur
selten auf einem Festival zu finden
ist. Trotz dieser kulturellen Spann-
weite hat das Life Festival einen
erfrischend unkommerziellen Cha-
rakter behalten; es werden also kei-
nerlei Reklameschilder oder auf-
dringliche Sponsorenwerbung das
Festivalerlebnis beeinträchtigen.

have been looking for; and then
again looking for something spe-
cial but finding something unex-
pected, even more fascinating…
Well, that’s life! And so is the
festival bearing this very name:
Multicoloured, adventurous and
full of new experiences. Beside
a pretty special Trance area that
truly deserves all these attri-
butes in itself, there still is much
more music and entertainment
to go for.
Let’s start with the spatial basis for
this open air pleasure, the venue.
Life takes place in Belvedere, a
magnificent 160 acre lakeside estate
on the shores of Lough Ennell in the
heart of beautiful
Ireland. The rolling
hills with some nice
Gregorian architec-
ture on it represent
the perfect scenery
for relaxed and calm
camping as well as
hardly calm partying. The motto
of the extensive Trance area could
be “Back to the roots”: Infected
Mushroom was asked to play a spe-
cial oldschool set and also Astral
Projection, Eat Static, Space Tribe or
the Highlight Tribe stand for origi-
nal psychedelic pleasures. Beyond
that, there is much more exciting
music to discover in the other areas:
From acoustic live concerts to Elec-
tro beats the musical spectrum
represents a spectacular variety that

Als „Aushängeschild elektro-
nischer Kunst im Festivalbe-
reich“ versteht sich dieses Festi-
val und offenbar nimmt man
diesen Anspruch ausgespro-
chen ernst: Inmitten der idyl-
lischen Natur Österreichs setzt
das Urban Art Forms Festival im
bereits sechsten Jahr auf wahre
Superlative aus den Bereichen
Musik, Dekoration und Visuals.
Das deliziöse Line Up des Psy
Trance Bereichs wird angeführt
von zwei musikalischen Urgestei-
nen der Szene, Hallucinogen und
Shpongle. Auch nach über 15 Jah-
ren intensiver Bühnenerfahrung
haben diese beiden Herrschaften
nichts von ihrem psychedelischen
Glanz verloren. Daneben findet
sich eine lange Reihe kaum weni-
ger namenhafter Acts aus den
Bereichen Full On und Progressive
auf dem Lineup; es sollte also für
jeden Geschmack ein echtes High-
light dabei sein! In optischer Hin-
sicht kommt das „Dreamteam“
zum Einsatz, ein Zusammen-
schluss von Gansedoline, NOS,
Mae & Moa und Maxi, die mit
einem Gesamtkonzept aus Stretch
Designs, Objekten und großfor-
matigen Backdrops den Trance
Bereich des Festivals mehr als stil-
echt dekorieren werden. Da die
Visual-Kultur einen Schwerpunkt
des Festivals darstellt, verwundert
es nicht, dass sie ebenfalls sorgfäl-
tig ins Gesamtbild integriert wird:
Der Sound jedes einzelnen Acts
wird von einem eigenen Visual
Künstler optisch umgesetzt, so
zum Beispiel von Großmeister El
Geko oder VJ Benski aus Neusee-
land. Und zu guter Letzt darf nicht
unerwähnt bleiben, dass sich die
beschriebenen Superlative in vier
weiteren Musikbereichen fortset-
zen, wo es unter anderem exzel-
lenten Elektro und Drum’n’Bass

„the showpiece of electronic
arts and festival culture“ and
obviously this demand is taken
really seriously: Situated in the
middle of the picturesque Aus-
trian nature, Urban Art Forms
Festival offers true superla-
tives concerning music, decora-
tion and visuals already in the
sixth year.
The delicious line up of the Psy
Trance area is led by two musi-
cal veterans of the scene, Halluci-
nogen and Shpongle. Even after
15 years of intense stage expe-
rience, these two gents did not
lose any of their unique, psyche-
delic elegance. The musical pro-
gram continues with a considera-
ble number of none less famous
acts from the areas of Full On and
Progressive. So there should be a
definite highlight for every taste!
In an optical respect, the “Dream-
team” will be employed, a con-
glomeration of the artists Gan-
sedoline, NOS, Mae & Moa and
Maxi that will construct a stunning
overall decoration concept from
stretch designs, objects and large
backdrops for the Trance area.
And because the visual culture is
another main emphasis beside
music at the festival, it comes as
no surprise that this aspect of
urban arts is integrated carefully
too: The sound of every single act
will be optically processed by an
own visual artist, for example by
grandmaster El Geko or VJ Ben-
ski from New Zealand. Last but
not least it should be mentioned
that the described superlatives
are continued on four more floors
that feature excellent Electro and
Drum’n’Bass for instance.

Air unweit von Wien. Nach dem
großen Erfolg und durchweg guten
Feedback im letzten Jahr werden
die paradiesischen Zustände im
Steinbruch von Falkenstein dieses
Mal auf ganze vier Tage ausgewei-
tet. Neben einer idyllischen Natur-
kulisse mit spektakulären Aus-
sichtspunkten um den eigentlichen
Partybereich steht zum Camping
das sehr spezielle Ambiente einer
Burgruine zur Verfügung.
Wo wir gerade beim Ambiente sind:
Auf der Homepage des Festivals hat
man einen sehr gut gemachten vir-
tuellen Rundgang eingerichtet, der
die Stimmung super rüber bringt
und wirklich richtig Laune auf das
Paradies macht. Dazu ein paar aku-
stische Assoziationen gefällig? Nun,
mit Juno Reactor, Cosmosis und
dem Alien Project sind drei wahre
Altmeister des Psychelic Trance ver-
treten und der sonnige, progres-
sive Schub von Vibrasphere dürfte
wohl auch den meisten ein Begriff
sein. Mit einer Kuppelprojektion, die
u.a. von den VJs Benski und El Geko
beschickt wird und vielen optischen
Spielereien wird das diesjährige
Dekothema „Dreamland“ sehr
gewissenhaft umgesetzt.

After the big success of last year’s
edition and without exception good
feedback, the paradise like con-
ditions will be extended to full
four days this year. Beside the pic-
turesque scenery with some specta-
cular viewpoints around the actual
party area, camping will be situated
in the ambience of a castle ruin.
Just talking about ambience: On the
homepage of this festival, a well-
made virtual tour has been set up
that portrays the atmosphere really
well and therefore stirs quiet some
enthusiasm for Paradise. Would
you care for some acoustic associ-
ations? Well, Juno Reactor, Cosmo-
sis and the Alien Project represent
three masterly veterans of Psyche-
delic Trance and also the sunbathed,
fluffy bounce of Vibrasphere should
mean something to quite a few peo-
ple. This year’s decoration subject,
“Dreamland” is taken to practice

Es ereignet sich alljährlich in einem
verwunschenen Wäldchen im Her-
zen Bayerns: Das Kannibalen Massa-
ker! Nicht nur der Name dieses eigent-
lich ausgesprochen friedlichen kleinen
Festivals verdient das Prädikat „außerge-
wöhnlich“: Mit seinem erfrischend unter-
gründigen Ansatz, vielen mystisch-ritu-
ellen Einflüssen, einem wirklich breiten
Musikprogramm und vielen sehr spezi-
ellen Details fällt dieses Freiluftspektakel
definitiv aus der Reihe! Bereits zum fünf-
ten Mal organisiert der Bajuwarische Bar-
baren e.V. sein Treffen für Freaks und
Individualisten aller Art. Ganze vier Tage
hat diese illustre Versammlung Zeit, sich
so richtig auszutoben. Anlass hierfür bie-
tet nicht nur eine ganze Menge erlesener
Psy Trance Sound sondern ebenfalls ein
musikalisches Alternativprogramm zwi-
schen Ethnoklängen und Punkrock. Und
dann wäre da auch noch das eigens
gebraute Kannibalen-Bier… Energe-
tische Workshops, ein Familienbereich
und kulinarische Köstlichkeiten runden
das Programm ab und machen es min-
destens ebenso interessant wie das so
mancher Großveranstaltung.
Contrary to what its name implies, Can-
nibal Massacre in the heart of Bavaria is
actually a very peaceful event. Organized
by freaks for freaks, it is not only its name
that deserves the rating “unusual”.
In its already fifth edition, the small festi-
val offers four entire days of program this
year. Not only loads of exquisite Psy Tran-
ce sound but also alternatives like Punk
Rock or Ethno music give rise to some
serious romping around. And so does the
specially brewed Cannibal- Beer… Ener-
getic workshops, a family area and culi-
nary delicacies round up this undoubted-

hidden language of the soul”
lädt die Crew des Summer
Never Ends Festivals vom 29.
Juli bis 01. August 2010 bereits
zum fünften Mal in die Schwei-
zer Alpen. Um dem diesjähri-
gen Motto gerecht zu werden,
hat man erneut eine beacht-
liche Anzahl internationaler
Spitzenkünstler verpflichtet,
die zweifelsohne das Potential
besitzen, die wunderschöne,
auf einer Hochebene inmit-
ten der majestätischen Kulisse
der Berge gelegene Location so
richtig zum Beben zu bringen.
Auf drei Floors wird es Psy Trance,
Progressive, Chill Out, Techno
und Minimal zu hören geben. Der
große Freiluftbereich wird wieder
mit demselben, hochpotenten
Line Array Soundsystem bespielt
wie bereits im letzten Jahr. Eine
erstklassige Anlage wird auch im
Tent Floor (diesmal im größe-
ren Zelt) garantiert. Zusätzlich zu
diesen Bereichen wird es einen
neuen Chill Out Bereich geben.
Vier verschiedene Dekote-
ams zeichnen für die Konstruk-
tion einer kunterbunten Parallel-
welt verantwortlich. Und natürlich
darf auch eine atemberaubende
Lasershow nicht fehlen! Die Crew
ist bemüht, den Besucherinnen
und Besuchern ein Maximum
an Genuss zu bieten. Dabei wird
Wert auf die Zusammenarbeit mit
Leuten gelegt, die auf dem Boden
geblieben sind, das Festival lei-
denschaftlich unterstützen und
dabei den nötigen Respekt vor
der Natur behalten. Im Gegenzug
wünscht man sich ein Publikum,
das sein Umfeld ebenfalls wert-
schätzt und positive Energie in die
Veranstaltung einbringt. Für einen

once again signed on a consi-

onal top artists who are und-

Concerning the listening pleasure,
Psy Trance, Progressive and Chill
Out will be played on three floors
as well as some Techno and Mini-
mal music. The huge open air
floor will be equipped with the

sound system from last year. A
top notch sound system is also
set up on the tent floor which will
be accommodated in a bigger
tent this time. Additionally there
will be a new Chill Out area.
Four different decoration teams
will be responsible for turning the
venue into a multicoloured par-
allel dimension. And of course
a spectacular laser show won’t
be missing, neither! The crew is
eager to present the visitors with
a maximum of pleasure. There-
fore, special value is attached to
collaborations with people who
remained grounded, passiona-
tely support the idea of the fes-
tival and keep an appropriate
respect for nature. In turn, the
crew wishes for an audience that
brings in some positive energy
into the mutual party experi-

Es war zu Beginn der Neunziger, als
im westindischen Bundesstaat Goa
plötzlich eine neue Form von Party
entstand. Die dort traditionell ansäs-
sigen Aussteiger griffen nämlich das
hypnotische Potential der neuartigen
elektronischen Tanzmusik auf und
verliehen ihr eine hippiesk-psychede-
lische Note. Doch nicht nur der Sound
dieser Tanzvergnügungen war spezi-
ell: Goa Partys wurden klassischer-
weise direkt am sonnigen Strand ver-
anstaltet. Und so trägt die Sahaura
Ajna nicht nur einen sehr indischen
Namen, sondern findet auch genau
dort statt, wo eine Trance Party stei-
gen sollte: Direkt am Meer.
Als Austragungsort hat sich Veranstalter
Michi das polnische Wolin direkt hin-
ter der deutschen Grenze ausgesucht.
Dafür gab es eine Reihe guter Gründe:
Es handelt sich nämlich um einen The-
menpark, der neben seinem eigenen
Ostseestrand auch eine Westernstadt
und eine kleine Ritterburg aufzuwei-
sen hat. Diese Orte werden in das Festi-
val integriert, so dass das Ganze sich
in eine Art „Erlebnispark für Trance
Freaks“ verwandeln wird… Nebenbei

sind die Behörden in Polen viel unkom-
plizierter, daher haben sowohl der Ver-
anstalter als auch die Besucher viel
weniger Stress mit diesen. Ach ja, wich-
tiger Punkt: Die Musik. Auf dem Lineup
finden sich zahlreiche Protagonisten
der norddeutschen Szene, deren Sound
von rapide-rockig bis fluffig-federnd
reicht. Die Anreise ist entweder im
Auto oder auch bequem mit dem Zug
möglich, daneben wird es wohl auch
einen Shuttlebus von Berlin und Ham-
burg geben.
It was the beginning of the nine-
ties when a new form of party evol-
ved in the West Indian state of Goa.
The dropouts traditionally settling at
this delightful place took up the hyp-
notic potential of the new electro-
nic dance music and lend their cha-
racteristic hippiesque-psychedelic
touch to it. But not only the music at
these events was special, also their
venues were: Goa parties classically
took place right at the sunny beach.
And that is why Sahaura Ajna not
only bears an Indian name but also
takes place right were a Trance party
should be: At the sea.

Promoter Michi chose the Polish
Wolin right behind the German bor-
der as the venue for this festival for
quite some good reasons: It is actu-
ally a theme park that includes a
Western city and a knight’s castle
beside its own beach at the Baltic Sea.
These locations will be integrated in
the festival concept so that the whole
thing will turn into some kind of
“amusement park for Trance freaks”
during the event… Beside that, the
authorities are really relaxed and easy
in Poland so that the promoter as well
as the visitors have much less stress
than in Germany for instance. Another
important point: The music. There
are quite some protagonists from the
fruitful North German Trance scene
on the lineup whose sound reaches
from rapidly-rocking to fluffy-floating.
The journey is possible by car but
there is also a convenient train con-
nection and finally a shuttle bus will
depart from Berlin and Hamburg.

hochgradig angenehme Zustände.
Und so liegt es für so manche
durchaus nahe, beides miteinan-
der zu kombinieren.
In Punkto rauschwirk-
same Substanzen
besitzt in der west-
lichen Welt der Alko-
hol die wohl längste
Tradition. Als sozi-
ales Schmiermit-
tel ist er in wirklich
allen Schichten der
Gesellschaft zu fin-
den und hat in die-
sem Zusammenhang
auch bedeutenden Ein-
fluss auf das Sexual-
verhalten. Die enthem-
mende Wirkung des
maßvollen Gebrauchs erleichtert
die Kontaktaufnahme und lässt
Witz und Redegewandtheit in unge-
ahnte Höhen schießen. So steigt mit
zunehmender Betankung auch das
Absturzrisiko. An und für sich eine
schöne Sache, wären da nicht auch
die Tücken alkoholischer Hemm-
schwellenbeseitigung: Ungeschützter
Geschlechtsverkehr ist in diesem

mittel heute ebenfalls weit
verbreitet, das Wolfgang Sterneck
malerisch als Gras der Venus
umschreibt: „Insbesondere in Indien
und Persien lassen sich zahlreiche
historische Bezüge hinsichtlich des
anregenden Gebrauchs von Can-
nabis nachweisen. In der traditio-
nellen ayurvedischen Medizin wie
in den Liebeslehren des Tantrismus
wird Cannabis ausdrücklich als Aph-
rodisiakum aufgeführt.“ Dabei steht
hier weniger eine enthemmende als
vielmehr eine geistig und körper-
lich entspannende Wirkung im Vor-
dergrund, die das erotische Erleben
intensivieren kann.
Kommen wir zu einer Substanz,
deren geläufiger Name bereits eine
gewisse Erotik impliziert: Ecstasy.
„Gerade im Zusammenhang mit
sexuellen Blockaden können durch
Ecstasy beeinflusste Erfahrungen
für die einzelne Person einen weit
über die konkrete Situation hinaus-
reichenden Charakter haben. Das
Bedürfnis miteinander zu schla-
fen taucht meist jedoch erst
nach der Hauptwirkung von
Ecstasy auf. Zuvor leiden
viele Männer unter einer
vorübergehenden Impo-
tenz, die mit Durchblu-
tungsstörungen und Ver-
änderungen im Hormon-
haushalt zusammen-
hängt. Unabhängig davon
ist jedoch das vergleichs-
weise starke Bedürfnis
nach zärtlicher, aber kei-
neswegs ekstatischer Nähe
ein Charakteristikum der
Wirkung von Ecstasy“ fasst
Sterneck zusammen.
Obwohl vom Namen her ähnlich,
ist Liquid Ecstasy eine ganz andere
Nummer: Der chemisch als GHB
bekannte Stoff tritt leider regelmä-
ßig in einem ganz und gar nicht spa-
ßigen Zusammenhang von Drogen &
Sex auf, Stichwort: K.O. Tropfen. Von
wirklich kranken Zeitgenossen wird
das Narkotikum teilweise zur Vorbe-
reitung von Vergewaltigungen miss-
braucht. Also behaltet Eure Getränke
im Auge und greift ein, sobald ihr
etwas Merkwürdiges beobachtet!
