Degrees centigrade [C]
For elevated temperature systems it is necessary to ensure that the water at the highest point in the system does not flash to steam.
An anti-Flash margin, usually 11 deg.C, should be added to the flow temperature. The corresponding vapour pressure for this
temperature should then be added to the static height of the system. This new minimum pressure must be used for the expansion
calculations and will protect the system in accordance with BS 7074 pt2. If in doubt please contact Flamco UK Ltd. for advice.

The temperature in the Flexcon expansion vessel must remain above -10 C.
A buffer vessel or Flexcon intermediate expansion vessel may have to be fitted between the system and the
Flexcon expansion vessel.
Flexcon Top diaphragm expansion vessels are made of top-quality steel and come with a high gloss epoxy coating. The rolling
action of the Flexcon diaphragm provides the vessel with a longer life. Together with the clench ring this design offers a high
quality and reliable product. All Flexcon vessels are BSI kitemarked to BS 4814.
Gas charge must be stated on order, e.g. Flexcon Top 8/05 = 8 litre vessel with 0.5 bar(g) gas charge. Gas charge will determine
the maximum working pressure. Other gas charges supplied to suit.

Expansion volume
The expansion volume is determined in the following
way: expansion volume = capacity x increase in
volume at the average heating temperature. Note: different selection values apply to cooling systems.
Should you have any questions, please contact Flamco directly.

Calculation - control unit with pump.
Nominal operating pressure = 0.5 + 1 = 1.5 bar(g).
As the selection table shows heat capacity, the aforementioned cooling capacity will have to be
converted using a conversion factor of 0.412.
The selection point is then 5400 kW x 0.412 = 2225 kW (2.2 MW) and 1.5 bar(g).
The 2.2 MW - 1.5 bar(g) point is on the D0 pump curve
(see Flamcomat pump characteristics graph).
Selected: Flamcomat GB 600/D0.
The Flamcomat balanced pressure expansion equipment is sized according to the total system volume and the boiler/chiller
load. The Flamcomat vessel is 80% efficient irrespective of the static height of the system. It is the ideal solution for large or tall
installations where standard diaphragm expansion equipment is limited.
The Flamcomat is a unique product that combines a balanced pressure system with an effective pressure step de-aerator
function and an inter-link to control system top up via a variant pressurisation unit.
The real-time LCD display shows the status of the mechanical components while monitoring the vessel contents and the
system pressure.
A common alarm volt free contact is included within the Flamcomat control unit for remote indication of a fault. Remote analogue
indication of the vessel contents and system pressure are possible as optional extras.
Low pressure de-aeration using the PALL ring process, which leads to a long life cycle and improved efficiences.
Duty/standby controller available.
Manufactured to DIN 4807 with full CE approval.
Available in seventeen vessel capacities with twin pump units.
Timeclock for programmed deaeration cycles and downtime.

More than one Prescor S safety valve may be fitted to
a system so that it can meet the required capacity if
the applicable regulations allow. When commission-
ing a system, it is advisable to flush the pipelines first.
As with bleeding, this must never be done using the
Prescor S safety valve. The system must be
depressurised before the Prescor valve is fitted.

Flamco safety valves have a special design, which not only achieves a perfect seal, but also a large discharge capacity. The
valve seal is made of high-quality rubber, which is heat resistant to 140 C, and where the hardness of the rubber is adjusted to
the set pressure of the safety valve. In this way, the valve cannot stick to the seat.
Al valves are tested before they leave our facility and are available for heating, chilled and airconditioning installations.

Designed for quality and safety
When using an Airfix A or Airfix D expansion vessel, a
pressure reducing valve must always be installed, in
order to guarantee a constant supply pressure and,
therefore, proper flow from the expansion vessel.
In addition, a Prescor inlet combination or a
combination of an isolating valve, a controllable relief
valve and a Prescor B boiler valve must be installed.

Example calculation of expansion vessels for mains-water systems
Data
- water capacity of the boiler = 150 litres
- maximum water temperature = 70 C
- cold water supply pressure = 4 bar(g)
- safety valve set pressure = 8 bar(g)
- vessel initial pressure (4 - 0.2) = 3.8 bar(g)
- end pressure (mean) = 7.2 bar(g)
Initial vessel pressure = Cold water supply pressure - 0.2 bar(g) = 3.8
End pressure (mean) = Set pressure of safety valve x 90% = 7.2 bar(g).
Calculation
Increase in volume: at 70 C is 2.25% = 150 x 2.25 % = 3.4 litres
(cold water supply pressure - initial pressure) (4.0 + 1.0) - (3.8 + 1.0)
Fill level: = = 0.04
(cold water supply pressure) (4.0 + 1.0)
Residual factor: 1 - fill level= 1 - 0.04 = 0.96
(end pressure - cold water supply pressure) (7.2 + 1.0) - (4.0 + 1.0)
Output: x residual factor = x 0.96 = 0.375
(end pressure) (7.2 + 1.0)

Flexvent Super
The cap of the Flexvent Super is conical in shape.
The advantage of this construction is that the
clearance between the water level and venting valve is
at its greatest. The air-escape duct can be opened or
closed with an adjusting screw.
The venting valve forms an integral part of the cap,
so that it is impossible to damage the floatvent
mechanism from outside.
The compact proven design has high efficiency and guaranteed operation for heating and air conditioning. The water within the
installation contains air which can form corrosion and reduce the thermal transfer. A Flexvent is fitted at places where the air
collects. Float operated, the air is collected in the Flexvent causing the float to drop and open the air release valve. When the air
is eliminated the float rises and closes the valve.

How it works
Piston Ignition
There is a cutting piston in the Flamco T-plus housing. When the pin is hit, the charge will ignite.
In addition to the Flamco T-plus for steel The cast-iron Flamco T-plus is suitable for steel pipes
pipes, there is a T-plus for thin-walled from " up to and including 3". The brass Flamco
steel pipes, stainless steel pipes and T-plus is suitable for thin-walled steel pipes, stainless
copper pipes (see right). steel pipes and copper pipes with a diameter between
14 mm and 42 mm.
The 42 mm version is not suitable for use with stainless
steel piping. Flamco T-plus is not suitable for use in
areas containing flammable materials. This includes
areas where there is a fire or explosion hazard.
A unique product for creating branches in existing installations (e.g. hospitals, industrial installations).
The fastest and simplest method of making a T-piece coupling. No need to isolate the system. No need to drain down. No

Flamcovent air separators are used for the total removal of air from central heating and air conditioning systems. The
Flamcovent principle is based on the proven and effective PALL process (Patented).
Advantages:
Large contact surface.
Big chance of collision.
Low flow resistance.
Flamcovent Solar
For mounting in solar powered installations.
With compression connection (22 mm) and Stiropor jacket for insulation.
Flamcovent Solar V
For mounting in vertical pipes in solar powered installations.
With compression connection (22 mm) and Stiropor jacket for insulation.
The compact proven design has high efficiency and guaranteed operation for heating and air conditioning. The water within the
installation contains air which can form corrosion and reduce the heat and cold transfer. A Flexvent is fitted at places where the
air collects. Float operated, the air is collected in the Flexvent causing the float to drop and open the air release valve. When the
air is eliminated the float rises and closes the valve.
