REFLECTIVE LEARNING JOURNAL

Week 5 (December 5 - 9, 2016)

What Ive learned is about mean, median, mode, area, asymptotes, how to solve

or to find Z score and many more.

Mean is the average of a set of data and it is denoted by x. Median wherein half of

the terms are located above the median and half are below the median, it is denoted by

. Mode refers to the score that occurred the most frequent; it is denoted by x. Example for

this is:

X F P(x) Mean
To get the mean you
should multiply the
9 1 1/39 9
random variables to the
8 2 2/39 16 frequency after that
sum up everything and
7 4 4/39 28 divide it to the N (sum
of all data). Other
6 7 7/39 42 procedure to get the
mean is to multiply the
5 11 11/39 55 scores to the
probability you should
4 7 7/39 28 get the same or equal
answer to the first
3 4 4/39 12 procedure.

N 39 195/39 = 5

Just to recall, my teacher in mathematics 10 teach us how to solve for the median, she

also gave us the formula that we need to use which is:

For even number: n/2 For odd number: n+1/ 2

n is represent of the number of data.

The example for this is that the number of random variables

X
Count it by row. Since it was
9
equal to 9, then it says to the
8
formula is that if the number is
7
odd it should add to one and
6
divide to two.

T o get the mode you should know what is the number that most frequent use. For

example is that, is the mean and the median is equal to 5 therefore our mode is equal to 5.

The area under the curve is called probability. So, when you draw a bar graph there

are the bell shape, that bell shape represent the normal curve. All the data should

converted to the normal curve. I also learned that the Table of Areas under the Normal

Curve is also known as the z- Table. So, here is the example of how to get the

corresponding area between z = 0 (zero) and a z = (given number).

*Find the corresponding area between z = 0 and z = 1.01

The given is z = 1.01

In the table (youll find it to the book on page 55-56), find the Row z = 1.00
In the table, find the Column with the heading .01
Read the area (or probability) at the intersection of Row 1.0 ad the Column .00
This area is .3438. This is the required area.

There is the formula on how to solve for the z-score for population data and for the z-

score for sample data.

Formula(s):

Z-score for Population Data Z-score for Sample Data

z=X z = X XX

s

I can apply it to the reality in a way that when we are choosing between the two

important things and we dont know what to choose. In that way we can identify what

is the more and less important like 50-50. Understanding this topic can make you to

be wise in terms of choosing and others.

In the end of my journal I just want to ask if we can recall again on how to solve

the mode because for me its still complicated even though it is already taught us in

our grade 10. Also, how to solve the z-score when we are looking for the population

data and for the sample data.
