You can use configuration, if you use the Project System to manufacture products with different features
or options.

To configure a standard network, we need to follow the following steps:

1 ) Create Variant Class (CL01)

2 ) Create Characteristics (CT04)

3 ) Assign Characteristics to class(CL02)

4 ) Create a standard network and activities under it (CN01)

5 ) Object dependencies (CN01)

6 ) Configuration profile for standard network (CU41)

7) Create an operative network from standard network.

1 ) Create Variant Class

The transaction to create a variant class is CL01 . Create a class with class type as 300.
Click on the create option and fill the required details as per the requirement >> Save.
2) Create Characteristics (CT04)

Now the class z_color is created. Next step is to create characteristics for this class. Navigate to the
transaction CT04.

Enter characteristics name and click on create button.

Fill the basic information :

Values: these values will be presented as options while changing the network configuration.
This is the minimum setting required for the characteristics. Based on the business requirement,
restriction can be added here. This is not covered here in the document. Once all the required fields are
filled, save the characteristics.

3 ) Assign Characteristics to class(CL02)

Next steps is to assign the characteristics to the class .

Transaction CL02, Open class Z_COLOR.

Click on Char tab and assign the characteristics Z_COLOR_CHAR to the class.
and save .

4 ) Create a standard network and activities (CN01)

This class and characteristics will be used in the standard network in order to make it configurable. Create
a standard network and create activities for variant configuration . Here we use standard network
10000071 with 3 different activities.
5 ) Object dependencies (CN01)

Now to configure the activity with the characteristics. Select the activity > Extras > object dependency >
editor > selection condition.
As the activity RED should come to use when we select the option Red . The following code should be
written to make object dependency.
Similarly, complete the object dependency with other activities changing the option to BLUE, GREEN for
BLUE activity and Green activity respectively.

6 ) Configuration profile for standard network (CU41)

After object dependency, configuration profile for standard network should be created from transaction
CU41.

Steps :

Transaction CU42

Select Standard network from the option .

Select the standard network and press enter

Provide the profile name and class as 300.

Click on option Class assignment .
And provide the class name created above and press enter.

Save the profile.

The standard network is now configured

Now the standard network can be used for variant configuration in project system .

7) Create an operative network from standard network (not part of the document)

Create an operative network from the standard network (using transaction CN21) and check the
configuration change.

Here I have created an operative network 917424. Currently network has activity RED as i have selected
the variant RED while creating a operative network.
Lets change the configuration and check the result . To change the configuration follow the steps

Select the network > Extras > Configuration > characteristics value assignment.
Select the option Blue form the list and click on back button.
Activity RED is deleted from the list and is replaced by Blue activity.
