TEACHING PLAN

Topic: HANDWASHING

General Objective:

The participants will be able to determine the importance of hand


washing and learn how to perform hand washing properly to prevent
transmission of diseases.

Specific Objectives:

At the end of 9 hours of community exposure participants will be able to:

1. Explain the importance of hand washing


2. Discuss the disadvantage of hand washing
3. Discuss when to perform hand washing
4. Demonstrate the proper hand washing

Materials Needed:

1. Water
2. Hand soap
3. Towel

Purpose:

Hand washing is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of
infections. Good hand hygiene will reduce the risk of things like flu, food
poisoning and healthcare associated infections being passed from
person to person

Target Participants

Day care pupil

Methods/ Procedure

1. Hand washing is the act of cleaning ones hand with water and soap
to remove soil, dirt, and microorganism
2. Many diseases can be transmitted if we do not wash our hands such
as diarrhea and hep. A
3. When we should perform hand washing
Visible dirt
Before and after eating
Before and after treating wound
After going to bathroom
After coughing and sneezing
After touching animal or pet
After handling garbage

HAND WASHING PROCEDURE

1. Wet your hands with clean, running water


2. Turn off the faucet and apply hand soap
3. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with soap, the back of
your hands, between your finger, and under your nails
4. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds or sing Happy Birthday
twice
5. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water
6. Dry your hands using a clean towel
