Reflection on Curriculum

With my background in
curriculum and having been on
textbook adoption committees, I
can honestly say that Springboard
has a stronger focus on applied
mathematics and higher order
thinking skills than most textbooks
available today.

Unfortunately, despite Springboards claim to being aligned with

Common Core, Springboard does not reflect the focus and emphasis
of the Common Core standards. For example, the three priority
clusters taught in grade 7 only represent 55 days of instruction in
Springboard compared to the 107 days that is recommended by the
State of Nevada. Springboard has devoted 81 days to supporting
and additional clusters, which are only supposed to represent 30%
of the curriculum.

In order for the Nevada State Standards to be taught at the level

and with the emphasis. They are supposed to be, each unit from
Springboard has to be heavily supplemented. On the next page is a
rough outline of the steps I took when supplementing each unit,
followed by the ratio unit.
