Assignment 2

I visited the Building which is already constructed and were identified in London,
Ontario. Building is consisting of the three floor (Basement, First floor, and Second
floor). Basement consist of the Two Bedrooms, Second Floor consist of Three
Bedrooms and Living Room & Kitchen are located in First floor.

The following points were observed in favor of Green building concept

1. All Bedrooms are having Energy Efficiency Low E Windows and glass for better
sunlight during the day time
2. Kitchen and living room also have the Glassed Window for better Lighting.
3. Light colors combination are used for the Exterior and interior wall.
4. Centralize Air conditioning and heating systems are provided throughout the
building.
5. Heating and Cooling Units are placed just below the Staircase and properly sized
room with Door & lock for safety precautions.
6. Energy STAR appliances are provided in kitchen like Electrical Stove,
Refrigerator, Microvan, dishwasher etc.
7. Light fixtures are also energy star rated. fluorescent lights are used in each room
for low consumption of the electricity.
8. Low VOC paints were used for interior walls.
9. Wooden texture tiles were used for the flooring.
10. Fire Alarm and smoke detectors are installed in each floor.
11. Portable Fire extinguisher are placed in Basement near the Mechanical room.
12. High quality insulation and sealing compound are applied in connection of the roof
and wall as well as wall to wall to avoid the escape of the air and external rain
water.
13. Duct for Air circulation are sealed with mastic to avoid the air/heat losses.
14. Low flow and duel flush toilets were installed in the bathroom to optimize the
water usage.
15. Foamy Type Taps were installed in kitchen for cleaning the utensils.
16. Light color metallic roof tiles were used.

17. Separate rain water channel is fitted along the Roof edge and collected in
underground tank called Rain water collection tank which will be used for
Gardening purpose.
18. Exhaust systems (fans) were installed in kitchen and bathroom to avoid the
contamination of fresh air.
19. Additional spare exhaust fan is installed in Mechanical room such that dangerous
gases CFC will have separate route for exhaust from building.
20. Tresses were found in East side of the building which is front side of the building
which helps to distract the direct sunlight on the building.

The following points are deficient in the building:

1. Solar system was not there, whole building engaged on London-Hydro

2. Over hanging of the Roof top was not found, for which sunlight hits whole area of
the wall.
3. Tresses were not found in West Side, Direct sunlight was hitting the Backside wall.
