Abstract
The processes of Portuguese colonization of Brazil with an emphasis on
military action, urge the observation of two major aspects: firstly, the
relationship between Christian indoctrination and military action which
underlies the conquest of the Brazilian colony, secondly, the economic
action related to the military action. Because of many legal mechanisms
put in place by the Portuguese state throughout its formation the
military action was also responsibility of the settler. Among many
mechanisms there was the Bandeira - formed by the colonial
authorities. So Paulo e Belm do Par were the main points,
influencing the actions that came to break the boundaries of the Treaty of
Tordesilhas. In the north of the colony, it was from Belm that happened the crossing
of the area delimited by the Treaty of Tordesilhas in wich has lead to the Treaty of
Madri. Later events were responsible to shape the northwest border. It was during
this time that occurs the Portuguese conquest of the areas comprising the rivers
Madeira, Mamor e Guapor. Those rivers have shaped the border mentioned
above.
