Globalisation & Colonialism

In the past our world we gained relationship together by invaded other country. When we

have a relationship with other country there will be a term called cultural diffusion. It means the

exchange the culture between the country that is invaded and got invaded. For example, religious,

the influence from the Spanish, English, French and Portuguese make the native American to

become Christian. Technology, China was the power that originate the gunpowder er that used in

the war and it came to Europe. And lastly, languages, English involves many words from varieties

languages. However, there are 2 system that they used in the past; globalisation is one of the

system; globalisation is growth on global scale. It is the system that gather and international impact

of cultures and economies. Colonialism is another system; colonialism is the way to takeover the

country to gain expand that colony and gain their resources. Basically, only one will get advantages.

These were two big methodologies influenced the important event in the past century. For instance,

for globalisation, many automobiles or vehicle uses parts from countries that build car like German,

Japan, Korea and China but a car being assembled in Thailand. Another example is media, a global

news network like CNN, was known by everyone all around the world because of their knowledge

that they spread to we the people. For colonialisms, in the 19th century, the Europe spread their

industrial revolution all over the world especially Asia. For example, China and India, they invaded

both of these counties because they got the resources that the Europe did not have like gun power

from China and gold and spices from India. Thus, the Europe invaded them to gain their advantages

of their economy.

So let start with globalisation. Basically, globalisation is the worldwide economic regarding

trade, financial and communication between countries. To portray a picture, free trade agreement, it

is agreement to make a trade across sea or counties without paying any taxes. Therefore, this
agreement make the trade easier and it makes the relationship between the country better than

before. Furthermore, it is the key to economics growth. However, there will always be black in

white and white in black. There are disadvantages about using globalisation something like the lack

of customer wants. To portray a picture, when Thailand doing a business with other countries we

Thailand may bring something into our country; like car from Japan and German, IT gadget from

America and China, etc. These are things that match our wants and needs but when we bring in

something like rice, fruit or vegetable product. These things do not match our wants and needs

because Thailand can produce these kind of things by ourselves and it wont earn any benefit cause

the imported product cannot be sold.

Colonialism; partial political control over another country to gain advantages. Furthermore,

to expand culture and religion. To portray a picture, Portugal invaded Macau, today we can see

many Portuguese culture in Macau for instance, in Macau there will be Chinese letter followed by

the Portuguese letter almost every where around the town. Moreover, they would want to spread

their religion which is Christian. There is a tourist sight that actually tells that Macau is one of the

Portugals colony which is the Ruins of Saint Pauls Church. It was built by the Jesuits, the society

of Jesus. St. Pauls is the largest church in Asia at the time. The church represent the triumph of the

Roman Catholic Church through the front of the church. The original church was made of wood but

the flame burned down in the year 1835 (Joo Botas, 2016). The things that have left are granite in

front of the church and 68 stone steps. About economics, there was a time called Macaus golden

age the Portuguese were allowed to settle in Macau permanently. Both Chinese and Portuguese

trader were gathered and came to Macau. Instantly, it became the pathway in the development of

Portugals trade in accordance with 3 major routes; Macau-Malacca-Goa-Lisbon, Guangzhou-

Macau-Nagasaki and Macau-Manila-Mexico. The main routes that made a lot of profit in that time

was the Guangzhou-Macau-Nagasaki routes. As the Portuguese make themselves as the middleman
between the Chinese and Japanese. They were shipping Chinese silks to Japan and Japanese silver

to China (History of Macau, n.d.).

In conclusion, each of these two methodologies were influence both good and bad in many

term like economics, religion, government and the way that people and so on. However, we cant

say that which one this absolutely good or absolutely bad because it depends on the situation that

the country face. For instance, if the non develop country got invaded by the more develop country

like the British. They might make the non develop country become develop because the British

might bring something modernise technology in the country that are not develop yet. Therefore, it

would benefit the non develop country. On the other hand, if the country that already develop got

invade by the British it might not benefit them actually it might harm them because the country that

invade would obviously want to gain their advantages by making other lose something or suffer. For

instance, China and British, British want to sell opium to Chinese but Chinese notice that opium

make their people lazy and dont want to work so they denied. However, British solve the problem

by using violence against Chinese so they get what they want. Lastly, there is no right or wrong

with these two methodologies because it depends on the situation that different people face.
