participation in the school. You have learnt to be more actively engaged and show independence by taking responsibility.

Comments: Aisha your lesson planning has improved because you have learnt to consider the importance of recognizing details and stages when preparing
lessons. Keep working on this and your lessons will flow better and you will feel confident that the pacing will be effective. We discussed ways to improve
your planning by changing the lesson plan format and details so see the recommendations list.

Comments: Aisha your classroom management skills have become stronger and you had an effective presence in the classroom during this lesson today.
This is because you have established rules and routines with the students that are clear and consistent. You create an effective learning environment but

your lesson timing and pacing needs improving so it flows and students are actively involved. You give them opportunities to contribute but you must
monitor the time better. It was good to see your lesson objectives and expectations clearly explained to the class at the start of the lesson today.

Comments: Your enthusiasm and teaching style motivates the students to learn and participate in the lesson Aisha. Your open friendly manner and
feedback encourages the class and creates a good learning environment. You over used questioning strategies in this lesson and there were opportunities to
have other strategies in all the phases. Plan the directed teaching and practice phase so there is sufficient time. Students should hear the complete listening
first before you question or discuss. It is important to develop comprehension skills and give opportunities to listen to the whole audio. There should also be
less directed teaching phases and opportunities for students to be more independent at this stage.

Comments: in this lesson you were closely monitoring and observing the students by checking- in with the students and giving feedback. You use positive
feedback throughout the lesson but more feedback for learning by using because is valuable and important.

Comments: You listen to feedback and ideas from your MCT with the purpose of improving your teaching effectiveness and lesson planning.
Teacher Practice Assessment Rubric Semester 8, 2017

Points for future action based on todays lesson observation:

1. The lesson pacing needs to be picked up. Dont dwell on unimportant details as you did eg: late students arrival- talk to them after the class dont
spend class time on this and have wait-time for all the students
2. The pacing of each lesson phase needs to be better timed so there is sufficient time to achieve the learning objectives
3. You can improve your lesson planning by
better formatting your phases so it is easier to find information and follow the plan
in each phase have the key details first: language skills, time, phase focus, activity/tasks.
the lesson plan spacing format needs to be less spread-out so it is easier to follow
identify the time, language skills, learning focus and activities clearly in each phase
4. Dont rely on too much on questioning in every phase. You should use a range of strategies in every lesson to engage the students that give
opportunities for learning and teaching in different ways
5. We discussed the need to hand over responsibility to the class by choosing interesting tasks and activities that support collaborative and/or pair
work.
6. In year 4 you can be further challenging the students during their tasks and activities so they are extending the use of their language skills and
sharing ideas and thinking. They should also be given creative and interesting activities to do.
7. We discussed the importance of not planning long engage phases. The time needed for the directed teaching phase and class scaffolded practice
is important and there should be time for group practice activities/tasks.
8. You should be engaging with the students more through giving feedback for learning.

Well done Aisha, think about these recommendations and how you can use them in your teaching.
