Innovative Leadership

a. Characteristics

Productive and innovative companies are results of creative leaders who produce, steer and
manage careful revolutions in performance, ideas and processes Bernard (2011). A creative
leader is judged by certain characteristics. Like, Integrity or honesty regarded as the primary and
key quality of Innovative leader. This brings confidence and harmony in the innovation
leadership (Romero et al, 2010). Determination and steadfastness define other traits of an
Innovation Leaders. They tend to work hard and find way out of obstructions and annoying
situation. They will always have one or other way to drive people with their initiatives. It can be
said that they emerge our of challenges instead of getting driven by challenges.
Innovation Leaders possess interest in improvements. They make learning and getting new
knowledge as their routine. They follow and encourage new learning patterns. They absorb
several ideas and concepts surrounding their work and business which can help them in setting
link to the better work they do. Also handling creativity requires courage which is a main
characteristic. That is not just having boldness, but confidence to work under distress and
pressure. Innovative Leaders do not hesitate in getting clarification on every concern matter
without any fear from people. Ignoring peoples view they try to get more explanation on
required matters. They are fearless in asking honest comment and feedback from people and
team mates. Innovation Leaders do not fear in accepting their mistake and work to correct them
for good Massard (2013). Being humble and self-confident is another quality of them. They do
not feel embarrassed to admit lack of knowledge or asking questions. This makes them learn
quickly whatever they do not know. They believe in continuous learning and consider being
humble is key value of leadership. Apart from this, according to me critical thinking and team
spirit are important characteristic of Innovation Leader.

2. Innovative Leaders Drive growth

An innovative Leader can be considered as the core around which the important workforce and
processes grow. Studies have demonstrated that innovation leaders encourage creativity that
brings in tendency and potential development for innovation in an organization. This encourages
creativity in employees. Innovative leaders value creativity and show interest in every idea
proposed and discussed by employees which brings employees engagement in decision
making(Spillane, 2005)..

Leaders support and benefit organizations by motivating creativity by brining various possible
solutions to a problem. This gives organization several options and vision for better decision
making. They bring new ways for looking into problem and creative methods to reach goal.
It is important to note that any organization will have diversity in staff background. Innovative
Leaders make use of diversity of staff to structure an environment that suits everyone and brings
a sense of working for common goal. This results in more effective execution of the
organizational processes (Meurling,2012).

Creative leaders are able to exploit the challenging situation and transformation by getting
involve people to knock down challenges. Any mistake in new idea is considered by them as
learning process and can be corrected for better results. This helps organizations to retain good
employees and get alternate ways for improvement. Innovative Leaders work on closing the
creativity gap in employees and bring in brand and fiscal benefits ot the (Jamali & Sahyoun
(2009).
