1. First I am going to play through Three Little Birds with them.

They will sing along with

me while I play the Ukulele! After this, they will clap out the rhythm of the strum with me.
Once we have this down, we will separate into two different groups! One group will learn
the A chord and another group will learn the D chord! Then, we will sing through the
chorus and they will practice their part play their chord. When one group is playing the
chord, the other group will be strong on the vocals. Once we nail this, I will then have the
two groups teach each other their own chord. After this, we will play through the chorus
together. Once the flow of this is good, I will teach both groups the E chord. Then, we will
play through the entire song together!
2. D, A, and E are all three very simple yet important chords to know when introducing
ourselves to the Ukulele. They will hopefully be very helpful in case students want to
learn other songs on the Ukulele. One difficult thing about playing the Ukulele and
singing is keeping the rhythm going. Learning the rhythm first helps for reinforcement!
Because rhythm is used in any instrument, clapping it out also helps!
3. The student will learn how to play D, A and E chords on the Ukulele with a rhythmic
strum.
4. 5.4 The student will perform rhythms of increased complexity, including syncopations.
MG.4 The student will read, notate, and perform scales and chords
-although this is for guitar, beginning on the ukulele will help them to reach this
goal.
5. Signs that say D team and A team!
6.
a. I beginning singing Dont Worry About a Thing. I motion for them to come in
once I think theyve heard it enough.
b. Nice! Now everyone try clapping out the rhythm! This side try it out and the other
side sing!......Now switch!
c. Now the left side, you all are going to be the A team. Right side, you all are
going to be the D team. Here I will show them their personal Ukulele chords.
d. When its your turn to play the chord in the song, keep your strum strong! If you
arent playing, then make sure you are singing out!
e. When they get this down, I am going to have them teach each other their chords.
Now, teach the other group your chord and lets switch
f. Here they will play through the chorus with their new chord.
g. Once they have this down, we will try the chorus playing both of the chords!
h. Now everyone, here is the last chord you need to know in order to play the
verse. It is E!
i. Once I show them this chord, we will play through the song with all three chords!
7. I will test their knowledge at the end when we all play together! I can also ask questions
when they are teaching each other the chords to make sure that they really know what
they are doing!
8. If some students are catching on quicker than others, I can have them play both D and A
chords at the beginning! If others are still having a difficult time with the chords, it might
help if I have them do every other chord!
