Jewish Neocons Gear Up for Midterm
Elections…Let the Good Smears Roll

It’s not just Israel that refuses to sign
the Nuclear Non-Proliferation
Treaty. American Jewish neocons
have been proliferating so many
hysterically-Islamophobic campaign
outfits in the run-up to the midterm
elections, you can’t tell the players
without a scorecard. There is of
course the granddaddy/ zaideh of
smearmesiters, the Republican Jewish
Coalition. In the 2008 election, the
RJC and Aish HaTorah mated (in
spirit if not in body) and produced the
Clarion Fund, which flacked for John
McCain. Lately it is touting its new
hate-Iran film, the third in an anti-
Muslim trilogy. We can expect it to
continue the same type of dirty tricks
it exploited in the last election, where
it spent upwards of $20-million
distributing another of its Muslim-
hate films to 28-million voters in
swing states.
Eli Clifton and I have written about
some other anti-Muslim campaign
front groups which have proliferated
like weeds after a Negev spring flood:
Keep Israel Safe was founded by
Gary Bauer and Tom Rose, who
deserves credit as the Jerusalem Post
editor who first moved it to the hard-
right political stance it adopted after
decades of centrist mediocrity; and
Stop Iran Now, an ideologically
wholly-owned subsidiary of Citizens
United (yes THAT Citizen’s United,
whom the Supreme Court offered a
green light to spend countless
millions smearing Democratic
candidates). The chief champion of
all these groups is William Kristol
and his Weekly Standard, election
central for the Likudist neocon
movement.
Now we have yet another mushroom
sprouting after a spring rain: the
Emergency Committee for Israel.
The parentage of this cuddly little
package is also interesting. Eli
Clifton notes that the group was first

promoted during a Campbell Brown
CNN interview with Noah Pollak, the
group’s executive director. Brown is
married to Dan Senor, a senior Bush
apparatchik and likely major player in
2012 Republican election campaigns.
Pollak is a former assistant editor of
the Shalem Center’s publication,
Azure. The Center is heavily funded
by Las Vegas gambling tycoon,
Shelly Adelson, Bibi Netanyahu’s
moneyman and funder of the new
Israeli daily, Yisrael HaYom (also
known unflatteringly as Bibi-ton).
Pollak also contributes regularly to
Commentary Magazine, the true
zaideh of the Jewish neocon
movement.
The Committee’s domain,
emergencycommitteeforisrael.com, is
registered to Margaret Hoover, like
Senor, a former high-level Bush
operative. She also participated in
Rudy Giuliani’s failed presidential
campaign. Curiously, after Clifton
outed Hoover’s role, they registered
with Domains by Proxy so her
identity is now safely concealed. The
alternate domain used by the group,
committeeforisrael.com, is registered
to Pollak. I’m curious why they are
attempting to conceal their affiliations
with seasoned hard-right Republican
campaign operatives like Hoover
since everyone and their brother
knows who’s behind these fetid little
mushroom sproutings. The new
group’s board includes…you guessed
it…Gary Bauer, William Kristol and
Rachel Abrams.
If I were Pollak I’d keep in mind
what happens to mushrooms after the
rains dry up: they wither and die just
as these pro-Israel hate groups will do
after November, and after their
donors will have thrown good money
after bad in funding these useless
vanity campaigns which have
absolutely no effect on the Jewish
vote, which remains solidly
Democratic. As a test, we’ll watch
the Joe Sestak PA. senate race for
which the Committee has produced
the hysterical campaign ad featured
above.
Ben Smith’s reporting on this story
for Politico features this incredible
quotation from Kristol in which he
actually claims that Aipac’s politics
are too liberal (a view shared by the
way with Shelly Adelson, if you’ve
read his devestating New Yorker
profile):
“Then there’s AIPAC, which is a
wonderful organization, but one
that’s very committed to working
with the administration, so they pull
some punches publicly.”
Kristol also has the chutzpah to
claim he’s modeling his effort as a
conservative mirror to J Street. There
is of course one major difference
between the two: J Street has
grassroots support, with tens of
thousands of donors and over 100,000
who’ve signed up for its alerts. The
Committee has a bunch of cigar-
chomping rich Jewish guys pursuing
their political vanity project.
Another curious factoid about
Pollak: he’s a moderator of a Porsche
car forum(and a member for at least
ten years). That must be where all
the lucre Pollak’s earning from Shelly
Adelson and his other Jewish neocon
fat cat donors is going: into his
Porsche collection. He should keep
this concealed from all of his
Burlington, VT. neighbors. That, of
course is Bernie Saunders country. I
don’t imagine there are too many
Porsches tooling around Burlington’s
streets especially not in those harsh
New England winters. I guess it
won’t disturb too many of his fellow
Jewish neocons that he drives a
German car since so many of them
are driving Mercedes, BMWs, Audis
and the like.
There are additional anti-Iran front
groups created by the Jewish
community, which seem designed to
do Israel’s bidding rather than the
Republican Party’s. Among them is
Stand for Freedom in Iran,
purportedly a grassroots community
coalition which was in truth
incorporated by the Jewish
Community Relations Council of
New York. Remember too the 2008
feedjournal.
campaign fiasco when the President’s
Conference booked Sarah Palin to
keynote a UN anti-Iran rally when
Ahmadinejad was scheduled to
address the world body. That didn’t
go over too well with the Obama
campaign and most New York Jews,
who detested Palin.

collective memory.
Anyone who has visited a foreign
country is aware that there are
differences, large and small, in
everyday objects. A European pillow
is vastly different in size and shape
from a North American one. Shop at
everyone’s favourite, assemble-it-
yourself Swedish furniture store, and
you will find out that all your bedding
has to come from this same store if it
is to fit your mattress. Sometimes
there are surprises: Sending your
child off to university with linens
from home may be a mistake, since
many dormitory rooms are furnished
with extra-long twin beds. The linen
stores around universities make quite
a back-to-school profit selling sheets
that are five inches longer than
average twin size.
Despite these inconveniences our
biblical ancestors would have viewed
even our most humble beds as items
of the utmost luxury.
Only kings and wealthy individuals
had beds of ivory…dining couches of
gold and silver…divans, and lounges.
The pieces in question were probably
beds ornamented with ivory or silver
or gold. Ordinary individuals slept
on the ground on spreads or rugs,
covered with a cloak. …

deadly raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla
will criticise the planning and
intelligence-gathering that preceded
the operation and not the commandos
who conducted it, defence officials
have said.

Perhaps this explains the odd item
that pops up in the midst of Moses’
speech in parashat Devarim. While
recounting our ancestors’ travels and
travails in the wilderness,
admonishing their behaviour, and
describing their struggles as they near
the end of their forty-year trek, Moses
adds this little tidbit: Only King Og
of Bashan was left of the remaining
Rephaim. His bedstead, an iron
bedstead, is now in Rabbah of the
Ammonites; it is nine cubits long and
four cubits wide, by the standard
cubit!( Deuteronomy 3:11) What
purpose could this detail serve other
than a dandy morsel of information
for a biblical trivia game?
Og’s bed was the ancient king-size
model. In modern terms, it measures
about 13.5 feet by 6 feet. Og is
described as being the last of the
Rephaim, a race of giants, an
ascription that is enhanced by this
description of his very large furniture.
Rabbinic tradition makes him out to
be an even larger giant than the
biblical account. (Dr. Admiel
Kosman, provides a wonderful
summary in English and a more
extensive look at texts on Og in
Hebrew.) Some, like Maimonides,
prefer to downplay the colourful
descriptions, reminding us of the
purpose of biblical hyperbole and
warning us not to take them literally.

Others prefer to muse about Og’s
furniture. Rashbam assumes that the
mighty king had many beds in many
places. What would make this one
unique? He takes it to be a
description of Og’s crib, the infant
Og being strong enough to destroy a
wooden one. (Changing the
description to Og’s childhood bed
solves an exegetical problem for
some interpreters according to Rabbi
Martin Lockshin. Describing an adult
bed in what these interpreters believe
is a text written by Moses so soon
after Og’s death calls into question
Moses’ authorship of the text. After

Driver understood barzel(iron) to
mean basalt, a stone common to the
region and containing a percentage of
iron, raising the possibility that the
item in question is Og’s sarcophagus.
More recently, Jeffrey Tigay explains
that iron was a rare commodity in the
Late Bronze Age; thus the detailed
description of the bed emphasizes its
precious ornamentation.
This pretty much covers everything
from cradle to grave, but it still
doesn’t explain the significance of the
passage. Og, or more specifically the
defeat of Og, must have been an
important event. Og’s downfall
certainly resonated in our ancestors’
collective memory, being mentioned
twice in Numbers and an additional
five times in Deuteronomy, as well as
in Joshua, I Kings and Nehemiah. Oh
yes, Og also makes a brief
appearance in the Psalms.
Perhaps we can understand the
significance of Og through the
description of another monarch
mentioned in this week’s parasha.
Moses recounts how he sent
messengers offering peace to Sihon to
no avail:
But King Sihon of Heshbon refused
to let us pass through, because the
Lord had stiffened his will and
hardened his heart in order to deliver
him into your power — as is now the
case. And the Lord said to me: See, I
begin by placing Sihon and his land
at your disposal. Deuteronomy 2:30-
31
Reading this it is impossible not to
think of Pharaoh, rising from his bed
in the middle of the night after the
tenth plague and finally succumbing
to God’s will. Surprisingly, midrash
states that it was more difficult to
mistakes in navy raid: army probe An
internal inquiry found mistakes were
made at a "relatively senior" level
destroy Sihon and Og than it was to
overcome Pharaoh. The rabbis of the
midrash admonish us for neglecting
this fact. After being saved from
Pharaoh, we sang a song at the Sea of
Reeds; after Og, nothing. Midrash
Tanhuma holds that this offense
against God was not rectified until the
writing of the Psalms(135:11 and
136:20). (This is something to keep in
mind this Shabbat Hazon, when we
read a special haftarah from Isaiah
admonishing us for neglecting God.)
Og saw what happened to Sihon, but
that didn’t prevent him from
following the same path: You make
your bed and you lie in it. As for
Og’s iron bed, it doesn’t matter how
big it was, nor does it matter how big
Og was; ultimately, he was no match
for the God who needs no bed: See,
the guardian of Israel neither
slumbers nor sleeps. ( Psalms 121:4)

The Strength Of Arguing
The Anshei Knesset HaGedolah
conclude the first Mishna in Avot by
teaching, “Strengthen your Torah
through constant discussion.”
(Chassid Ya’avetz, who does not
believe that the Mishna teaches us to
“Make a fence around the Torah!”)
Who were these people? The Talmud
teaches: “Why were they called Men
of the Great Assembly? Because they
restored the crown of the divine
attributes to its completeness. Moshe
had said, “God, great, powerful and
awesome.”
Then Yirmeyahu came and said
“Nations are destroying His Temple.
Where are his “awesome deeds? So
he omitted the attribute “Awesome.”
Daniel came and said, “Nations are
enslaving His children. Where are His
mighty deeds? So he omitted the
attribute “Mighty.”
But the Men of the Great Assembly
came and said, “On the contrary!
Therein lie His Mighty deeds that he
suppresses His wrath, that He extends
long patience to the wicked. Therein
lies His awesomeness: For but for the
fear of Him, how could one single
nation persist among the many
nations!” When the Anshei Knesset
HaGedolah added this phrase to our
Tefillah they were restoring the glory
of Hashem.
II.
There is more. When they
acknowledged God’s awesomeness
and might even in the most desperate
of situations they were restoring that
level of His Divine Providence to the
world. The court of the lower world
joined with God to restore a higher
level of Hashgacha Pratit.
Rebuilding your Life in a New Land

Yesterday at the Jerusalem Film
Festival, I went to see a Belgian film,
Illegal(directed by Olivier Masset-
Depasse) about a woman from Russia
who is treated badly by the local
police because she is an illegal
worker. This was a compelling story
about a mother and her teenage son
and the trials that they undergo in
trying to become accepted in their
new surroundings. For some reason,
this is a subject that has been really
bothering me in recent years – as it
becomes more and more of a human
issue all over Europe, the United
States, and certainly here in Israel.
The Israeli features of recent years
This speaks of the power of human
beings to bring a higher level of
Hashgacha to the world. Humans did
it. Again, this is a praise of God. He
granted us extraordinary power in our
relationship with Him. He gave us the
ability to work in partnership with
Him.
III.
Any other leader would have been
devastated. The Second Temple was
complete. Most of the Babylonian
exiles chose to remain where they
were. Jerusalem was vulnerable and
under populated. Many, if not most,
of the Jews who had returned from
Babylon were intermarried. The Jews
had chosen to remain dispersed.
Judaism could not remain centered
around the Temple. People were
unfamiliar with prayer and blessings.
The Anshei Knesset HaGedolah
chose to approach all these
impossible issues with the greatest
surge of creativity in Jewish History.
They compiled the siddur. They
formulated the blessings. They
instituted the structure of Judaism as
we know it.
Even Jeremiah and Daniel were
forlorn, but these people saw this
moment in history as an opportunity
to grow. They understood the
absolute demand to be deliberate.
They appreciated the need to nurture
new generations of students. They
were clear that they were challenging
all future generations of Jews to see
God’s awesomeness and Power even
where Jeremiah and Daniel did not.
Their concluding, most important
message was to strengthen Torah
through explanations. Explain why
we do what we do. Discuss our
reasons. Challenge people to ask, and
give them answers.
They knew that this new expression
of creativity would give rise to
argument and debate, as we soon see
in Pirkei Avot, that there were
that deal with foreign workers or
visitors and the influence that they
have had on us (all of which have
been reviewed on this blog) include:

A Palestinian film that deals with
this subject of migration and trying to
rebuild your life in a new country is
My Father from Haifa by Palestinian-
Danish filmmaker, Omar Shargawi.
The film, which was screened this
week at the Jerusalem Film Festival,
is a particularly sensitive and
divisions of authority and opinion.
They knew all this. They wanted this.
What else could possibly result from
nurturing independence in our
students? And they saw these
discussions, questions and arguments
as a source of strength. These
discussions would create a fortress
for Torah, one that would protect its
integrity and sanctity through all the
generations to come.
These discussions were their
strength, and they should be ours as
well.

The IDF timeline on the Mavi Marmara

The IDF put out videos (Hebrew
only so far) and an English
description of the events that
happened on the Mavi Marmara,
based on the results of the Eiland
team investigation:
The IDF forces were divided and
each group boarded a different ship.
The soldiers arrived at the Mavi
Marmara at 4:28 AM, but could not
board the ship due to metal objects
being thrown at them, and electric
buzz saws used by the demonstrators
to slice the ladders IDF soldiers
needed to board the Marmara. After
an unsuccessful attempt to board the
ship by smaller boats, a helicopter
arrived at 4:30 AM with 15 IDF
soldiers. The first rope dropped by
the helicopters was tied by the
demonstrators to the deck of the ship
in order to prevent the soldiers’
descent.
Soldiers that descended down the
second rope were met by 2-4
demonstrators each who wielded
knives, axes, and metal poles. The
second soldier to descend was shot in
the stomach by a demonstrator. The
soldiers who were in danger of their
lives were forced to use their live
weapons. Five soldiers were injured
by stabbing, blows and live fire by
the demonstrators. Within seconds of
boarding the ships, three soldiers
were thrown off the deck by

been a larger tablet. What makes it
important is that it contains writing in
ancient cuneiform symbols. This
makes it the oldest written document
ever found in Jerusalem. That alone is
fascinating but what makes it truly
significant is the high quality of the
writing that seems to be the work of a
highly skilled scribe who was
probably part of a royal household.
Analysis of the writing by Hebrew
University experts shows that it may
well have been part of a message sent
from a king of Jerusalem to the
demonstrators. The injured were
dragged to the hull of the ship.
A reinforcement of soldiers arrives
from a second helicopter, which is
also attacked by demonstrators, and
the soldiers are met with violence
when they attempt to access the lower
deck of the ship.
At 4:46 AM a third helicopter arrives
to the Mavi Marmara, and the two
groups of soldiers combine forces on
the ship roof and descend to the other
parts of the ship, where they are also
met with lethal violence, and thus
respond with live fire.
Many of the demonstrators enter
inside of the ship as the smaller boats
arrive at the side of the ship, however
some still violently attack the
incoming boats and the soldiers
respond with live fire.
The Commander of the Special Navy
Forces boards the ship, and while
evaluating the forces, it is discovered
that three soldiers are missing. The
missing and injured soldiers are
discovered to have been abducted by
a number of violent demonstrators,
who abandon the soldiers and run
back into the ship when fired at.
Two of the injured soldiers jump off
the ship so that they can be picked up
by the IDF boats. The third injured
soldier is on the bow of the boat and
slipping out of consciousness. IDF
soldiers remaining on the boat come
to his aid.
At 5:17 AM the situation is
evaluated and some of the findings:
live fire was used by demonstrators
towards IDF soldiers who were on the
pharaoh in Egypt.
And why does this matter? Jonathan
Tobin explains.
This matters because many
influential archaeologists, as well as
Palestinian propagandists, have
dismissed Jewish ties to Jerusalem by
claiming that the Kingdom of David
mentioned in the Bible was an
insignificant entity and that its capital
in Jerusalem was nothing more than a
village. These people scoff at the
notion that the effort to restore Jewish
sovereignty to the area is based on
historical precedent rather than
biblical romance.
The lesson of this most recent find is
that if Jerusalem were already an
important walled city in the centuries
before David, it is very difficult to
argue that it was a backwater only
when the Jews took over, some 3,000
years ago. Since anti-Zionists wish to
claim that King David and his
kingdom never really existed and that
the great city from which he ruled it
is a myth, this evidence of the city’s
significance even before his time is
more proof of the falsity of anti-Israel
historical polemics.
The stakes involved in these
seemingly arcane archaeological
disputes are quite high. That is why
anti-Zionists have been at such pains
ship, including one soldier who
descended down the rope and was
shot in the abdomen. Live fire by the
demonstrators was also aimed at the
soldiers on the small Israeli Navy
boats next to the Marmara. The first
occurence of live fire was that used
by the demonstrators. In addition, a
gun with emptied magazines was
found in the hull of the ship.
IDF forces had boarded the other
ships without incident. Treatment and
evacuation was carried out for the
injured soldiers and demonstrators
alike. 38 injured were airlifted, 7 of
them soldiers.
The three soldiers who had been
attempted to be kidnapped and were
taken to the hull of the ship were
witness to an argument between the
violent demonstrators, and other
passengers of the Marmara who
asked the violent demonstrators to
cease their violent activity.
24 of the injured passengers were
diagnosed at the Ashdod Port and
treated in hospitals in Israel.
After the operation ended, the ships
arrived at the Ashdod Port
accompanied by Israeli Naval forces.
An intelligence investigation
following the flotilla incident found
that 40 of the IHH activists
previously boarded the Marmara ship
from Istanbul before joining the
others.
The 8 of the 9 demonstrators killed
were members of the IHH or other
allied groups. Around half of those
killed had declared in front of their
families their aspiration to die as
to dismiss or minimize the
importance of Mazar’s amazing finds
in the course of her exploration of the
City of David site. As
COMMENTARY wrote back in
February, when Mazar released
findings that showed that she had
found a portion of an ancient city
wall as well as other possible royal
structures dating to the 10th century
B.C.E., the greatest threat to those
who think that parts of Jerusalem
should be off-limits to Jews comes
not when Jewish-owned buildings go
up but when Jews start digging into
the ground.
On the back slopes of the Mount of
Olives, there is a unique kind of
archaeological dig. If you’re in Israel
and looking for something to do, you
might think about going to help them
out for a day. It’s probably the first
archaeological dig to take place
entirely above ground.
When the Waqf built an underground
mosque in Solomon’s stables on the
Temple Mount several years ago,
massive amounts of dirt, containing
hundreds of artifacts from the Temple
periods, were carted off and dumped
in the Kidron Valley in the dead of
night. This ‘dig,’ which is run by the
City of David group, is sifting
through those mounds and mounds of
martyrs (“shahids”). Footage on the
Marmara shows that the violence had
been prepared: metal poles and chains
were prepared, slingshots, buzzsaws,
gas masks, tear gas, bulletproof vests,
knives, and more. A briefing had
taken place before the IDF had
boarded the ship, with the leader of
the violent demonstrators telling the
group to attack the IDF soldiers at
any cost.
There were 718 total passengers of
the flotilla ships. Most were released
without undergoing any investigation.
The last passenger left on June 6th.

Fossil Fuel Dependency and Find
Alternative Energy Sources
Unless you’ve been living under a
rock for the last 20 years, you
probably have heard about OPEC.
OPEC is an acronym for
Organization of Petroleum Exporting
Countries. Twelve countries –
Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran, Iraq,
Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi
Arabia, the United Arab Emirates,
and Venezuela make up the
membership of the cartel.
The developed world runs on oil, so
it’s easy to see that oil (or rather, the
production and exportation of oil) can
be used as a very effective weapon.
And it has been. And it likely will be
again.
The Arab-Israeli conflict contributes
to the problem. After the Six-Day
War in 1967, OPEC was transformed
into a political force, and a
formidable political force at that. It
We saw how effective Facebook
could be during the Gaza flotilla
crisis. One Facebook group devoted
to spreading truth about the flotilla
“activists” reached 252,700 members.
Another group with a similar purpose
has 97,000 members. A Facebook
group also played a key role in
HonestReporting’s campaign to force
Comedy Central to remove an
offensive game from its website.
But it looks as thought he Internet
giant has started to approach its
plateau.
According to the website Inside
Facebook, the site gained only
320,800 new members in June. While
most Internet properties would envy
that sort of growth, it represents a
monumental drop from the 7.8
million new members it gained in
May.
Even more surprising, the site lost
members from its key demographic –
people ages 18 to 44. At the same
time, Facebook added more members
in the 13-17 range and the 45-55
range.
Wired magazine offered its own
assessment of Facebook’s decline in
growth:
One possibility is that the May and
June controversies over Facebook’s
was the Yom Kippur War of 1973
that brought things to a head. Arab
countries were furious over the
emergency resupply efforts that had
made it possible for Israel to
withstand Egyptian and Syrian forces.
The 1973 oil embargo ensued.
But oil that is pumped out of the
ground must be stored – or used. By
the 1980s, there was an oil glut.
There was more oil available than
there was demand for it, and the price
of oil began to take a nose dive.
Exports declined, and so did the
money. The members of OPEC were
not happy campers.
But as I said, oil is the fuel that runs
the world. The excess of supply
didn’t last long. Oil prices fluctuate,
but OPEC isn’t totally responsible.
Oil is traded as a commodity on stock
exchanges and investors can drive the
price up by bidding on what’s called
“futures.” This is the main cause of
the high price of gasoline that
American consumers were paying
during 2008.
However OPEC is a force to be
reckoned with and they can use oil as
a weapon again. Unless, we become
less dependent on oil and find other
privacy policies and dominance have
kept the company from tremendous
new growth and even led some to
curtail their use.
Another possibility is that it’s just a
statistical aberration, or a result of
changes to the advertising system,
where Inside Facebook says it gleans
its numbers.
But there’s also the possibility that
almost every American who has any
interest in joining Facebook already
has. Facebook says it has about 125
million active U.S. accounts and is
likely closing on half a billion
accounts worldwide.
Does that mean Facebook has
reached its peak? Will it soon fade
from its exalted Internet status? Not
likely. It still holds second place
(behind Google) as the most visited
site on the Internet. And it remains
the biggest site for sharing photos
online.
But as the site’s growth flattens, it
could mean a change of approach for
the company. Instead of looking to
draw more members, it could focus
instead on improving services for its
current members. That might mean
finding new ways to strengthen
connections between friends, and new
ways to share information.

Another day of shame for an Israeli
religious establishment and its police
lackeys who violently wrested a
sacred Torah scroll from the arms of
a praying Jewish woman, all because
she had the temerity to demand that
Jewish women be entitled to worship
equally with men at one of Judaism’s
holiest sites.
Anat Hoffman, director of Women of
the Wall and a leader of Israel’s
Reform movement, was arrested by
Israeli police at the behest of the men
in black who cannot countenance any
woman having the balls to demand
the rights enjoyed by Jewish men for
millenia–to hold and leyn from the
Torah.
In Hoffman’s account of her ordeal
published at the Forward, she noted
that the Israeli Supreme Court had
devised a compromise that allowed
women to both carry and read from a
Torah scroll at the Kotel and that she
was not violating this ruling:
We did nothing wrong. We were
fully within the guidelines of the
Supreme Court ruling which allows
us to hold the Torah. We were not
reading from the Torah. We were just
singing and praying, and on our way
to Robinson’s Arch to complete the
service, as per the terms of the
Supreme Court. There was absolutely
no reason for me to be arrested.
The arrest is solely a product of
hateful, intolerant, power-grabbing
Orthodox rabbis who feel that they
own the Kotel and seek to set the
rules and punish those who brook
their power.
For her “crime,” she was fined
$1,300 and placed under a restraining
order that bars her from the Kotel for
30 days.

terror and the possibility of re-
armament of Hamas and renewal of
the war against us in the South.”
There are reports that Noam Shalit,
the father of abducted Israeli soldier
Gilad Shalit, is considering
petitioning the Supreme Court against
the transfer.
That report went up in Hebrew late
Monday afternoon. The last update is
American president, and then when
we finally get him, waste that
historical occasion by not bonding
with other revolutionary leaders?

They said six women had been
arrested who had already written
“farewell letters” as they were being
prepared for deployment. But the
officials did not disclose whether
attacks were imminent, or any other
details about planning.

Two men were also arrested,
including one said to have played a
role in attacks by two female suicide
bombers on two subway stations in
Moscow in March, which killed 40
people.
On Monday night, state-controlled
television broadcast footage of the
female suicide bombers detained by
security forces. The National
Antiterrorism Committee, a federal
body, said the six women ranged in
age from 15 to 29 years, adding that
four of them were widows whose
husbands had died in security
operations.
The committee said suicide belts and
weapons were confiscated.

Britain develops stealth capable
UAV Britain has developed a stealth
capable UAV that is capable of
carrying out surveillance and combat
missions across the world. The
vehicle is called Taranis and it looks
like something from outer space.
Defence firm BAE Systems today
officially unveiled its first ever high-
tech unmanned stealth jet.
The Taranis, named after the Celtic
god of thunder, is about the same size
as a Hawk jet and is equipped with
stealth equipment and an
‘autonomous’ artificial intelligence
system.
The plane will test the possibility of
developing the first ever autonomous
stealthy Unmanned Combat Air
Vehicle (UCAV) that would
ultimately be capable of precisely
striking targets at long range, even in
another continent.
The trial aircraft cost £143 million
pounds to construct and spearheads
BAE’s drive to convince the Ministry
of Defence to invest in the next
generation of unmanned aircraft.
Almost invisible to ground radar, it is
designed to travel at high jet speeds
and cover massive distances between
continents.
The plane is built to carry out
intelligence, surveillance and
reconnaissance on enemy territory
using onboard sensors.
And it has been designed to carry a
cache of weapons – including bombs
and missiles -, giving it a potential
long-range strike capability.
It can be controlled from anywhere
in the world with satellite
communications.
Test flights are scheduled to start in
2011.
You have to wonder why the Brits
are spending so much money on this.
Maybe because with Obama in power
they no longer trust the US? (Maybe
not – development was started in
2006).
Israel might also be interested in this
sort of thing to stop Iran. I wonder if
we have one under development.

Radicalism in the
Balkan Region

Increasing radicalism threatens
stability in the Balkans. Just last week
at a Serb-led rally against Kosovo
governing authorities in the ethnically
divided city of Mitrovica, a hand
grenade exploded leaving one dead
and ten injured.
Serb and ethnic-Albanians leaders
blamed each other for the attack.
Balkan leaders need to begin acting
on principle rather than narrow self-
interest. Although the international
community can support this process,
ultimately regional leaders need to
stand-up and be counted.
