Donkey Beads
Glass-Bead Necklaces
Glass-Bead Necklaces usually indicate that the wearer is a member of the Santeria religion, also
known Lucumi or Orisha worship. Due to sensationalized and misleading media accounts, the
public primarily associates Santeria with animal sacrifice and involvement in illegal activities.
Consequently, many people have erroneous and fearful ideas about this religion. The glass-bead
necklaces have particular meaning depending on their colors, each associated with a particular
Orisha; for example, red-and-white beads refer to Shango, who presides over the fire of life and
human energy; yellow beads embody qualities of Oshun, the goddess of love, fertility, and the
beauty of life; white beads represent Obatala, everyones father, the wisest and oldest Orisha,
who created the human body.

about keeping their bodies covered. For example, in Thailand there is a
student had to cover as much of her body as possible. She could not wear
anything that exposed her body, whether she was inside her home or
outdoors. But when she living in the united states she changed, She wearing
