OUR TEAM VIEW DISCUSSION & DEBATE SHORT STORIES
Flash Fiction Flash Fiction is a concise short story , with a definite word
count. In 150 words, writers have to create a strong image
BURST of the story in the readers mind.
It was Halloween night, the sky was as dark as it could be and the
moon was placed behind a crowd of misty clouds. Every dog in the city
was barking; all the shops were closed. Kate on the other hand was
happily singing in the shower until...the water stopped and the
bathroom fell to complete silence it was so silent that you could hear a
pin-drop fall. For a moment, Kate hesitated, until suddenly with a
splash the water pipe burst open, it made a deafening roar. As she ran
outside she realized that water from the pipe had spread around the
house, as fast as lightning, and now it was already half a meter above
the ground!

A little while later, Dad and I were playing football when we got alarmed
by the sound of a loud THUD! It was our moving van, it had tipped over.
We went to see the driver, he had blood dripping from his mouth! Then I hid in my parents attic until one day the guards came and looked in eve-

though at dinner time it was all white! I went to tell my Mum and Dad but
they were in deep sleep, so I just slept off. The next day I told them but
they said it was ketchup. Mum said we had to buy a uniform which was
surprisingly orange. For some reason, it looked like an inmates uniform.
The very next day, it was the first day of school! I was nervous, excited
and scared. I was scared because Mum said We might not see you for
sometime. I knew she was being ridiculous. So Mum dropped me off at
the school named Sing Sing Correctional Facility. I was assuming it
was a musical school.
But when I went in, some guards locked me in a cell and I was being
treated like I was in prison!. The guards never let me leave. Did you
know that my old school was a psychiatric treatment facility?
I didnt mean to kill my brother or murder the moving van man or kill the
cleaner in our house. The Superintendent of our facility said I would be
sent to school in a couple of years, after I learn how to control my anger.

To distract myself from this melancholic thought, I focused again on what
it would be like there. I had seen a great multitude of models and videos,
and was convinced this brand new world of the future would be a million
times better than my stale existence here on Earth. Huge malls, theme
parks, parks and rivers, and beautiful apartments all covered by a
massive glass dome. Surely crime would be left behind on Earth; this
miserable planet that was once my home. I closed my eyes; a wave of
ecstasy washing over me, like the artificial sea at the end of the dome.
With a jolt, the engines roared into life. This was it. A marathon journey
to my dream world. From an innocuous speaker on the wall, a robotic
voice began the countdown: Ten, nine, eight, seven, six...my heart was
pounding like an African drum, five, four, three...beads of perspiration
trickling down from my forehead; two, one. I held my breath as the
engines screamed (I imagined flames like dragons). Then upwards we
moved, slowly at first, then faster and faster.
