2)Describe Business Logistics, as you would expect it to be practiced in the

following countries and regions
Business Logistics are defined by four key functions: Transportation Requirements,
Cost Factors, Management and Coordination, and Supply Chain Partner Ships.
(Graded from 1-10)

Transportation Cost Factors Management Supply Chain Country

Costs and Partner Ships
Coordination

10 10 8 8 European
Union
8 8 9 9 Australia
7 7 8 7 South Africa
3 2 7 8 China
4 5 5 7 Brazil

1. European Union- I suppose these countries have a lot more cross border
traffic regarding their business logistics. An example are that Europeans have
about 20 to 60 % outsourcing rates. And most of the key events rely heavily
on freight forwarding activities for their constructions.
1. China-Higher grades of corruption that do interfere with business logistics,
low costs for making them that also include low transportation costs.
2. Australia-High transportations costs because of low density in various regions
of the country, good management, and coordination and a low of supply
chain partner ships.
3. Japan-one of the biggest powers in the world regarding business logistics they
are very advanced and on the peak of technology, but costs can be very
expensive in this country.
4. United States-High cost factors but a lot of supply chain partnerships which
can make some of the costs become cheaper, but because its an expensive
country one might expect a lot of coordination but at a price.
5. South Africa-out for the continent south Africa might have one of the best
logistics environments, cost might be high but they will include a big
emphasis on coordination and partnerships.
3)Summarize factors and forces that give logistics importance among other
functional areas.
Logistics is about creating value, for the customers as much for the suppliers of the
firm, value in this is expressed in time and place. Products and services have no
value unless they are in the position of the people in time, and where they wish to
consume them. Having good logistics affects the whole managements of the supply
chain therefore contributing to each and every process of a business and adding to
it value. In may encompass various parts of the business such as:
1. Demand Forecasting
2. Purchasing
3. Requirement planning
4. Production Planning
5. Manufacturing Inventory
6. Warehousing
7. Materials Handling
8. Packaging
9. Finished Goods.
4)Discuss similarities and Differences between manufacturing firm and service firm,
non-profit, military, retail firm.

5)Discuss the role that efficient effective logistics in encouraging a high level of
freeing trade.
Trade maybe well determined as a prime determinant of economic dynamics. But
effective logistics systems are a crucial factor both in terms of implementation and
comprehension of foreign trades. TO achieve success trade must offer competitive
products, in the recent decades, has resulted from the changes in the structure of
the industrial process, good logistics costs are a substantial part of the market price
of products so having good ones can be highly effective for a good level of trade.
6)Why is it that marketing and production can claim some or all logistics as part of
the area of responsibility.
Reduced delivery time refers to a shortening of the period between a customer
ordering a product and that customer receiving the product. When companies need
to ship inventory (as e-commerce businesses do), delivery time is a vital concern of
both logistics and marketing. By shortening delivery time, businesses can impress
customers and create loyalty while adding more value to their processes than
competitors have. With a highly efficient logistics strategy, companies can easily
track product orders and product shipment data. This allows a business to spot
exactly where a product has gone, what product was originally ordered and shipped
and what needs to happen to fix problems with the order. All of these aspects are
important to both parts of the marketing and productions departments so they can
improve their effectiveness.
7)Key activities of the business logistics functions?
Customer Service, Planning demand Forecasting, Inventory Management,
Warehousing, Logistics Communication, Material Handling, Packaging, and
Transportation.
Importance in the management of
1. TV Manufacturer-tv can sometimes be big and expensive products so
distribution to retailers and their logistics need to be handled with an utmost
importance.
2. Touring musical group-Implementing good logistics for a band may as well be
the difference between a total fiasco of a concert or a total sell out of one.
One of the most important people that started the logistics of musicians is
jerry Weintraub.
3. Hospital-Logistics is a measure of efficiency and in regard for an institution
with the responsibility of human lifes it can be a complex technical system of
many actions, structures, material flows and people.
4. City government-Government needs to have an effective logistics programs,
because they are the people in charge of handling the effectiveness of the
rule of a country not only must they compete in good logistics for a humane
level but also in an economic level countries with good logistics whether it be
communication, transportation, or attention to the population are the top
leading economies in the world.
5. Fast food chain-these restaurants are based on time, a fast food restaurant
primary concern is having complex logistics to be able to deliver food at an
affordable rate at the same time as a fast way of food.
8)How do you think international logistics differs from logistics for a firm with global
operations?
A company doing global trade will differ a lot with a frim doing only some
international logistics they will take into account a huge difference in government
taxes , fees and currency exchange fluctuations. Also a big difference is the number
of supply chain relationships a global firm with have such as they are able to
implement their product or service in a global scale at the contrast to an
international country who on deal with a couple of other nations.
9)Suggest some products that benefit significantly from increased time and place
value?
1. Any agricultural or food based products if they do not have a good time and
place logistics they will rot and therefore lose all of their value.
2. DHL or similar types of services-most of the value they bring is good shipping
and handling with is a n other term for good logistics.
3. Any type of service that needs to implement a good logistics regarding
communication, customer satisfaction.
10)What are interface activities? Why would the creation of an additional set of
interface activities cause concern in most companies?
They are a point of connect between two entities working on a common project.
Well a business or company operating in a successful scale generally has its
processes and interface activities set with a good managements and focus adding a
new set of interfaces would address taking on more costs , personnel , and making
sure all departments involved in the program are able to communicate effectively.
11)The political and economic barriers are a problem for most enterprises in the
world. If you are the manager of Procter and gamble Italy what distribution
decisions are you faced with in the future?
Make sure I have a well displayed channel structure where I have identified greatly
all the elements implied in my distribution channel such as might be: the
government, the brokers, associations and cooperatives, customer requirements,
and external factors. Once identified makes my whole distribution simpler and
easier so that I can prevent and achieve futures plans as desired or encounter
solutions for future situations that might flaunter my distribution channel.
