How did you become a Roman Soldier?
- Firstly, only men could serve in the army.
- You also had to be a Roman citizen.
- You had to be at least 20 years old. Once in the army, you were
required to serve for 25 years.
- Most soldiers came from outside countries.
What kinds of soldiers were there?
There were many types of soldiers you could be.

- The Roman cavalry ride on horses.


- Artillary soldiers shot catapults.
- The foot soldiers fought on foot.
- Centurians were important leaders and carried short rods to show their
importance. (and to whack soldiers of lower rank).
- Auxillary soldiers were soldiers who were not citizens. They fought where
it was the most dangerous, the front lines.
- There were archers in the Roman army.
- Legionaries were the best soldiers and the best paid.
What were the Roman Troops like?
- There were about 30 legions in the Roman army.
- Each legion had came with 4000 to 6000 soldiers called legionaries.
- Each legion also had 10 cohorts. Each cohort had 6 troops of 80 centuries.
- Each century was led by a centurion.
What was part of a soldiers uniform?
- They wore sandals with iron studs on the soles. The soles were made of
leather.
- When not being used, their swords were on the opposite side of their
dominant hand.
- They kept food and camping gear with them at all times.

Romes navy is bad

course of the battle

Sicily.

- He was defeated by Scipio

when he left in 202 BC
Punic War 3
- The 3rd War was between Carthage and
Rome
- Masinissa, governor of Numidia and a
strong ally of the Romans, picked at
Carthage, until Carthage attacked Numidia in
150 BC, Breaking the treaty that had ended
the first war.
- Carthage was pushed into fighting again.
Rome declared war on Carthage in 149 BC,
and an army landed in Africa.
- Carthage surrendered, as they couldnt
take the onslaught of the Roman might.
Punic War 3 continued
- In 146, Scipio stormed Carthage,
and Hannibal, but not wanting to give
Romans pleasure of seeing him as
a prisoner, He committed suicide
- The Roman army then turned up
stones, plowed the land, and salted
it. They guaranteed that no
carthage could rise from the ruins.
- The territory was made into the
Roman province of Africa.
