Solve a System of Equations by Graphing

Name (CIS 223 Asma Shedewa)

Grade(s) 9th Grade

Subject(s) Mathematics

Length of Lesson 40 minutes long

Lesson Students will be using the school's computers to solve systems of

Overview/Rational equations by graphing. We will be using a Promethean board to go over
e some questions at the end of the class. While promoting mathematical,
computer and critical-thinking skills, students are learning how to
identify and solve equations through a website.

Learning Students will focus on pairs of linear equations in two variables

Objectives to solve systems of linear equations.
Students will apply what they learned in class about graphing to
the online graphing equation given to them.
Students will graph the equations on their notebooks and then

apply the answer to the website.

After graphing the equations, students will figure out the
solution and type it on the bottom of the graph.
Students will determine whether the answers are correct or not
by submitting their answers.
Students will identify what they did wrong and learn from their
mistakes.
Students will write about whether doing math on a computer or
on worksheets worked best for them and how.

Technology Uses Students will be using the computers for:

Website ixl.com, ninth grade-math.

Word document/google doc.
Calculators.
Promethean board.
Printer.

Materials Computer with internet access.

Computer with Microsoft Word.
Promethean board connected to a computer.
A printer.

Procedure Teacher will introduce the lesson to the students.

Teacher will pass out laptops to the students.
Teacher will ask the students if they are familiar with the
website and Microsoft word, if not, the teacher will guide the
students through the Promethean board.
Students will work on the lesson separately, unless the teacher
or an adult helping steps in to help.

Students will type what they have learned and print it out.
If there is time at the end of the class, students will use the
Promethean board to teach the rest of the students what they
have learned.

Assessment Students will be assessed based on:

Their scores on the IXL.com website.

The word document that they turned in.
