Building a City of Awareness

Many student organizations coordinate
projects and events that benefit local needs
or raise awareness about important societal
issues. For example, members of UF’s Habitat
for Humanity chapter organize an annual Box
City event during which students construct
“homes” out of cardboard boxes and
spend the night on UF’s front lawn to raise
awareness about homelessness.

The City of Findlay
When you are ready to venture off-campus, take a walk down the city of Findlay’s Main
Street to the row of restaurants and specialty shops. Or enjoy the city’s nightlife —
coffeehouses, shopping at the mall and movie theatres. Findlay also is a short drive from
many fun places to spend a Saturday afternoon including the Cedar Point Amusement
Park and Lake Erie.

Intercollegiate Sports
UF is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division
II and of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and competes in the
Intercollegiate Horse Show Association.

Hands-on Learning
One-on-One Faculty Advising
One of the first people you will get to know on campus will be your faculty adviser.
Because our faculty members are so involved with the development and success of
their students, your adviser will help you do much more than just sign up for the right
classes. You and your adviser will work together to explore pathways to the right career
for you, find opportunities to get hands-on experience in your field and ultimately learn
more about who you are and who you will be.

The Art of Teaching

Located on campus, the Mazza Museum
of International Art from Children’s Picture
Books is the first and largest teaching
gallery of its kind in the world. The museum
contains more than 3,700 pieces of original
artwork and hosts more than 10,000
visitors each year.

The Oiler Experience

The Oiler Experience is a program intended to introduce all freshmen to college life at
UF. The course is designed and taught by a cadre of student-services professionals whose
educational backgrounds and specialized training are focused on helping students to
succeed, both in and out of the classroom.

An education from The University of Findlay

also includes experiences you can only get
outside of the classroom. At UF, you will not
only be prepared for your career, but also
for life.

14
Learning in the World’s Classroom
Through UF’s Study Abroad Program, you can expand your outlook on the world by
studying in other countries. Educational travel programs sponsored by professional
organizations, short-term study tours hosted by faculty, study at sea programs and
international exchange programs provide exciting learning opportunities. Travel
destinations over the past several years include Brazil, Borneo, China, England, Italy,
Mexico and Japan.

Cultural Activities
The University of Findlay’s Concert and Lecture Series provides cultural enrichment
experiences through hosting symphony and opera performances by professional
companies. Our theatre program performs four productions a year, and the
SummerStock program brings in professional guest actors and student interns from
across the country to perform in productions each summer.

You also can display your artistic talents in the Dudley and Mary Marks Lea Gallery,
which hosts exhibits by students, faculty and guest artists. Original art also is displayed
in the Old Main Gallery and the 1124 Gallery.
