Emma Kimmins Southard is a
student at the University of
Cincinnati double-majoring in
Social Work and Women’s,
Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
They are involved with many
student organizations and
activities, such as GenderBloc
and the Racial Awareness
Program (RAPP). Kimmins has
been involved with shaping
policy at UC and was instrumen-
tal in developing the Trans
Survival Guide, which is an
amazing resource for students
who identify as Transgender or
gender-variant. Kimmins plans
to pursue a career in social justice
and continue working for
LGBTQ rights.
David Whitaker graduated from
St. Xavier High School and will
attend Ohio State University in
the fall. He has been involved
with Hands Across Campus, a
diversity club at his school. He
organized his school’s participa-
tion in the Stop AIDS walk, pro-
moted the Day of Silence, and
attempted to start a Gay-Straight
Alliance at his school. David is
involved with PFLAG – he
created and maintains the
PFLAG fan page on Facebook.
He also serves as the librarian and
a peer contact for other teens.
David’s experiences and
involvement have helped him to
make his school and community a
more accepting place.
