Detailed Descriptions of the Grading System:

Excellent Students working at this level are doing work that is superior, highly insightful, and based on detailed, evidence-
based arguments. The requirements for the assignment were not only met, but were greatly surpassed. The thinking
demonstrated in the work is clear, innovative, and integrative of the main concepts presented in this course. Overall, students
doing excellent work demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the assignment and how it relates to the larger goals of the
course.

Good Students working at this level are doing work that exceeds expectations. This level of work contains solid evidence-based
arguments that are clearly presented and drawn upon a wide variety of material from the course. Good work indicates that a
student possesses a clear understanding of the material in the course as it relates to the specific assignment. Although this is not
the highest level of work a student could do in this course, it is considered to be of high quality.

Fair At this level, students are doing works that meet expectations. Work at this level represents appropriate and average-level
work for a senior student. Arguments made in the assignment are supported with suitable evidence. The arguments, however,
are not as convincing or detailed as they could be. Moreover, although the ideas and examples are clear and appropriate to the
assignment, they could be strengthened or more detailed. Overall, while the work is acceptable and competent, it does not go
beyond the basic requirements of the assignment.

Below Expectations This level of work is lacking in one or several areas. Even if the major elements of the assignment are
included, the work is marked by unsupported, unclear, or carelessly-constructed arguments. Work at this level simply fails to
meet the basic expectations for a senior student.

Unacceptable This is low-quality work, well below what is expected of senior students. Such work often evidences little fit to
the requirements of the assignment and little or inappropriate application of course concepts. Overall, this level of work
demonstrates little understanding for the specific assignment and the course concepts relevant to the assignment.
