Fire nd

Although the amount of water used in a year for firefighting is small, the rate of
use is large. The Insurance Services Office uses the formula;

F18 C A 0.5

L
Where: F = needed fire flow day
C = coefficient for construction factor
A = floor area excluding basement of the building m2

The fire flow must be maintained for a minimum of 4 hours. Most

communities will require a duration of 10 hours. In order to determine the
maximum water demand during a fire flow, the fire flow must be added to the
maximum daily consumption.
