Instructional Escapes Room:
Activities/Strategies 1. Students will be explained the rues of the escape room. They are not allowed to use
their books at all; they have two free help chances, and more.
2. The students will be handed the first envelope to begin.
3. They must start by collecting all the playing cards around the room. Once they have all of
them, five of the cards have a saying on them. If you make the sentence go in order, the
first combination for one of the locks is reveled.
4. The code will unlock a lock that is locked to a piece of paper. The piece of paper has
holes in it, when it is held up to the write book from the story, it spells out a word. The
word is JANSPORT. Then the students will find a Jansport backpack in the room.
5. The largest pocket is locked but the smaller one isnt and it contains two pieces of paper.
One the papers, are multiple-choice questions. When answered correctly, they will
unlock the backpack and the lock box inside the backpack.
6. Inside the lock box, there are pennies and gum, which was found in the tree in To Kill a
Mockingbird. Students must go to the three pictures and on the back will be a key for a
locked bag. Once unlocked there are three pieces of paper with multiple-choice
questions on each. Only one paper unlocks the final box, all papers must be answered
correctly before the box can be unlocked.
7. Once the box is unlocked, there is an envelope containing a congratulations paper that
shows the students that they have finished and escaped the room.
