Cuba sees growing tourism [2016-08-04]


Cuban officials say more than two million tourists have visited the country so far this year. They say
Cuba will see a new record for visitor numbers. They're expecting 3.8 million tourists this year.
The rise in tourist numbers comes after the US and Cuba restarted ties in Dec. 2014.
Hsieh Su-wei retired from tennis in Taiwan [2016-08-04]
Taiwan's top woman tennis player Hsieh Su-wei said this morning that she is now retired from tennis
in Taiwan. She also said she is not going to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
On her Facebook page, Hsieh says she will never be part of the Taiwan national team again. Hsieh
said she had to do this after a tennis association official banged on a table and shouted at her.
Singapore rep (representative) resigns over drunk driving [2016-08-10]
The ROC representative to Singapore has resigned. Antonio Chiang is stepping down because he was
caught drunk driving.
Chiang said he just wanted to help the country when he accepted the job, and he is sorry for causing
trouble for the government. Police stopped Chiang in Taipei late last Wednesday. That was just a few
hours after he was sworn in as the new representative to Singapore.
His blood alcohol content was almost double the legal limit.
Traffic citations for Pokemon Go top 1000 [2016-08-10]
Police say they've given out 1,210 tickets for people breaking traffic laws playing Pokemon Go since
the game was available in Taiwan Saturday. Between August 6th and 8th, 76 car drivers, 1100
motorcycle riders and 24 drivers of slow-moving vehicles have been caught playing Pokemon Go
while in traffic.
Transport Minister Ho Chen-dan says his office will look into ways to change laws to deal with this
problem over the next two weeks.
