One Bangsar business owners have been given until Sept 16 to look for alternative premises
KUALA LUMPUR: The fate of disputed One Bangsar Sdn Bhd in Jalan Ara, Bangsar Baru,
will be decided at the KL High Court on Friday.
One Bangsar and its tenants are challenging the decision of mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad
Ismail to not extend the business licences of the nine restaurants.
The five-year business licence expired last December. Fuad said he was keeping his promise to
the residents that it would not be renewed.
“We had a discussion with the residents’ association. After listening to their demands that One
Bangsar and Bangsar Seafood Restaurant should cease operations, we have decided to abide by
the lease agreement and not extend the licence, ” said Fuad.
He said the restaurant operators had been given until Sept 16 to look for alternative premises.
Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin
said he had received an appeal letter from the business owners but added that the ministry
would not reconsider its decision.
Raja Nong Chik had said the site would regain its residential status as stated in the original
master plan.
Bangsar Baru Residents Association secretary Prem Kumar said he hoped that the court would

“We have said everything we need to and now we will let the court decide on the matter. We
stand by what we said before, which is for the area to become residential again,” he said.
Many residents are happy that the row of restaurants in Jalan Ara, Bangsar Baru, will cease
operations in September but some patrons and the public have expressed shock and dismay over
the decision.
Some said it was a waste to shut the restaurants down after five years.
They questioned the authorities’ decision to allow the premises to be built and operated in the
first place.
“It does not make business sense,” said a resident, who preferred to be anonymous.
In a statement, One Bangsar and its tenant restaurants said business would continue as usual,
pending the court’s decision.
Messrs Tommy Thomas, Advocates & Solicitors is representing One Bangsar, while City Hall
has appointed Thangaraj & Associates. It is learnt that Tommy Thomas will be seeking a
postponement of the hearing.
