March 27-31
This week we will be continuing our learning on several skills from last week. We will continue using context clues (pictures,
surrounding sentences, synonyms/antonyms, definitions, and examples) to help us understand unknown words in a passage.
Students do this ALL the time as they read.but they rarely stop and realize how they figured out the unknown word.
Learning context clues can help them understand their strategies and improve their reading.
In math we will be learning about 3-Dimensional Solid shapes such as cubes, cones, cylinders, spheres, rectangular prisms,
hemispheres, pyramids, and triangular prisms. We will be using vocabulary such as faces, vertices, edges to describe
these shapes.
In spelling we will be working on aw/all words. These are easily confused for first graders, who typically write I sall a
bird. instead of I saw a bird. In language we will be talking about past, present, and future verb tenses. Students
should know how to change a verb to show different points in time.
In social science we will be continuing our activities with weather, focusing our attention to types of clouds. We will also
be watching and reporting on the changes in our Painted Lady Caterpillars as they begin their transition into butterflies.
Check out the note coming home today about Family Science night. Dont forget to submit your DVD orders for
Grandparents Day program as well as your Art to Remember orders.
