BOILING OUT BOILER AND SYSTEM
To properly clean the boiler and to protect the various components of the system against
plugging and fouling with foreign matter, we strongly recommend the following procedure:
The boiler should be boiled out for a period of not less than four hours with a solution
consisting of 4# of trisodium phosphate for each 1000# of water contained in the boiler. In the
case of a hot water system, the entire system should be circulated during this boiling out period
in order to provide proper cleaning. If the volume of water in the system cannot be readily
calculated, an additional 4# of trisodium phosphate per 1000# of water in the boiler will
provide sufficient solution strength for the usual hot water system.
After boiling out the boiler, and in the case of a hot water system, the entire system should be
drained and the boiler flushed out. The boiler and system should be filled and drained again
and finally filled to normal operating level for placing into service.
We believe the above procedure will appreciably reduce the number of difficulties often found in
new installations.
