NACELLE SPLICE PLATES (WING) - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

NOTE: Refer to the Airworthiness Limitations Manual, 90-590024-187.
The four nacelle splice plates must be inspected for cracks at 10,000 hours and every 1,000 hours thereafter until
reaching their life limit of 20,000 hours. At 20,000 hours the splice plates must be removed and replaced with new
components.

If a cracked splice plate is found, the SPLICE PLATE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE INSPECTION must be performed
and structural damage repaired or replaced as required. When new splice plates are installed, the inspection cycle
is repeated with the first inspection due at 10,000 hours. If unusual conditions are encountered that cannot be
resolved locally or if an alternate splice plate replacement procedure is desired, contact Hawker Beechcraft
Corporation Technical Support for consultation.

NACELLE SPLICE PLATE INSPECTION

NOTE: Remove only the access panels shown in Figure 201, Sheet 1. Removal of the riveted skins should not be
required for the inspection process.

a. Remove the access panels shown as shaded areas.

b. Visually inspect the edges of the splice plates on top of the upper spar forward flange for cracks. If a crack is
found in one of the splice plates, proceed to the splice plate replacement procedure.

c. Thoroughly examine the edges of the splice plates from on top of the spar forward flange to the forward ends.
Focus close attention on the area from the bulkhead to immediately forward of the main spar. If any cracks are
located in this area, proceed to the splice plate replacement procedure.

d. Anytime a crack is found in a splice plate, the splice plate must be replaced and the SPLICE PLATE
STRUCTURAL DAMAGE INSPECTION procedure in this chapter must be performed.

SPLICE PLATE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE INSPECTION

a. If a crack is found in any of the four splice plates, the structural components must be inspected for secondary
structural damage (Ref. Figure 202).

b. If the nacelle rib attach channel is damaged, it must be replaced with a new channel. If any of the other structural
components are damaged, repairs may be effected utilizing one of the standard repair procedures (Ref. Chapter
20-10-00).

SPLICE PLATE REPLACEMENT

CAUTION: Use a hoist with steel rollers or one that is firmly mounted to a solid surface to support the engine when
the splice plates are removed. Do not use a hoist with rubber tires.

a. To prevent unacceptable loading of the nacelle structure when the splice plates are removed, support the
engine with a 50-590141-1 or other Hawker Beechcraft Corporation approved sling and a hoist.
CAUTION: Do not drill into the spar cap.

b. Remove the fasteners attaching the aft nacelle skin to the center section and remove the skins shown as shaded
areas (Ref. Figure 203, Sheet 1).

c. Remove the plumbing and equipment as necessary to gain access to the splice plate fasteners forward of the
main spar.

d. Remove the rivets attaching the splice plates (Ref. Figure 203, Sheet 2) to the structure. Remove the lock bolts
that secure the splice plates to the spar (Ref. Chapter 20-50-04).

e. Remove all burrs from the fastener holes.

f. Vacuum up all debris that may have been caused by the drilling operation.
CAUTION: When using the old splice plate as a template, ensure that it is the splice plate which was removed from
the location for which the new splice plate is being prepared,

g. Install the new splice plates and fasteners.

NOTE: When installing lock bolts in holes that were formerly occupied by rivets, ream the holes with a number 12
ream to ensure a snug fit.

h. Install the aft nacelle skins utilizing the fasteners shown (Ref. Figure 203, Sheets 3, 4 and 5).

i. Install any plumbing or equipment that was removed.
