BOOKS
Our Troth Volume 1 $38
Kveldulf Gundarsson, 584 pages
Our Troth is the single most comprehensive book available on
the reborn religion of Heathenry -- the pre-Christian religion of
the Germanic peoples. Volume 1 covers the history and lore of
Heathen religion, with information on the Gods, Goddesses, and
other beings that receive honor and worship, and the ethics of
being Heathen.
4
Book of Blotar $37
418 pages
This tome contains sixty rituals as well as explanations,
definitions and commentary. A compilation of work from a
broad group for heathen sources. A must for both aspiring and
established gothar. Comb bound.
7
Runelore $25
Combining historical lore with esoteric investigation, Runelore
dispels most of the misconceptions fostered by recent books
that purport to explore the runic tradition. A rune is a magical
word. It is a self-created viewpoint, and it cannot be
communicated through profane or natural speech. It is a
magical word that is whispered in our ear by the dhinn within.
The language of the runes combines folklore, linguistics, the
history of religion and magic.
9
The Anglo Saxon Chronicle $27
James H. Ford and James Ingram, 174 pages
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is an account of the early
history of Britain. It was originally compiled on the orders of
King Alfred the Great, approximately A.D. 890, and
subsequently maintained and added to by generations of
anonymous scribes until the middle of the 12th Century. The
original language is Anglo-Saxon (Old English), but later
entries are essentially Middle English in tone. Covers may
vary.
10
The Norse Myths $28
Kevin Crossley-Holland, 276 pages
Drawing on a wide variety of sources, the author has re-
created 32 classic Norse Myths that compete in power with
Greek mythology.
11
Popular Tales From Norse Mythology $26
George Webbe Dasent, 327 pages
Full of giants, trolls, heroes, and beautiful princesses, these 42
folktales include such favorites as "Temptations," "The
Magician's Pupil," "Legend of Tannhuser," "The Outlaw," "The
Widow's Son," and "The Goatherd."
12
Viking Age Iceland $28
Jesse L. Byock, 432 pages
The popular image of the Viking Age is of warlords and
marauding bands pillaging their way along the shores of Northern
Europe. This fascinating book shows that Norse society in
Iceland was actually an independent one; almost a republican
Free State, without warlords or kings. Combining history with
anthropology and archaeology, this remarkable study serves as a
valuable companion to the Icelandic sagas, exploring all aspects of Viking Age
life: feasting, farming, the power of chieftains and the church, marriage, and the
role of women. Byock reveals how the law courts favored compromise over
violence, and how the society grappled with proto-democratic tendencies.
13
Icelandic-English, English/Icelandic Dictionary $24
Arnold R. Taylor, 177 pages
Over 10,000 entries in a concise and easy to use format,
alphabetical listing in both languages, lists English irregular
plurals and irregular English verbs, states gender of Icelandic
nouns, a rare and valuable resource.
16
The Saga of Grettir the Strong $27
Bernard Scudder, Ornolfur Thorsson, 320 pages
Composed at the end of the fourteenth century by an unknown
author, The Saga of Grettir the Strong is one of the last great
Icelandic sagas. With a mesmerizing combination of pagan ideals
and Christian faith, it relates the tale of Grettir, an eleventh-century
warrior struggling to hold on to the values of a heroic age as they
are eclipsed by Christianity and a more pastoral lifestyle.
17
Heimskringla $48
Snorri Sturluson, 880 pages
Beginning with the dim prehistory of the mythical gods and
their descendants, Heimskringla recounts the history of the
kings of Norway through the reign of Olaf Haraldsson, who
became Norway's patron saint. Once found in most homes and
schools and still regarded as a national treasure, Heimskringla
influenced the thinking and literary style of Scandinavia over
several centuries.
Beowulf $26
Howell D. Chickering, 464 pages
The first major poem in English literature, Beowulf tells the
story of the life and death of the legendary hero Beowulf in his
three great battles with supernatural monsters. The ideal
Anglo-Saxon warrior-aristocrat, Beowulf is an example of the
heroic spirit at its finest. Leading Beowulf scholar Chickerings,
fresh and lively translation allows the reader to encounter
Beowulf as poetry. This dual-language edition incorporates
recent scholarship and provides historical and literary context
for the modern reader.
Grendel $26
John Gardner , 192 pages
Grendel is a beautiful and heartbreaking modern
retelling of the Beowulf epic from the point of view of the
monster, Grendel, the villain of the 8th- century
Anglo-Saxon epic. This book benefits from both of
Gardner's careers: in addition to his work as a novelist,
Gardner was a noted professor of medieval literature and
a scholar of ancient languages.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I submit my artwork?
Artwork may be mailed directly to our post office box address.
Wyrds Way accepts only original artwork from the artist, and it is
understood Wyrds Way may use the artwork in any manner it
chooses. Should the artwork be used for any purpose, full credit
will always be given to the artist.
Where can I write for Pen Pal services?
Wyrds Way does not have pen pal services and unfortunately,
are unaware of any service for inmates which is free of charge.
Can you put me on your mailing list?
Wyrds Way does not maintain a mailing list due to the nature of
inmate transfers.
My institution doesnt recognize our faith, what can I do?
Request a meeting with your Chaplain. satr may already be
recognized in your facility. If it is not, he or she will likely direct
you to fill out necessary paperwork for a formal request for the
recognition of satr. Part of his or her duties involves seeking
religious volunteers (of all religions) upon request after inmates
adherence to their institutional policies. Visit your Chaplains
library for information about satr; there may be books in your
facility already. Many state budgets have a portion of funds
allocated for the purchase of religious materials.
Do you offer a Goar program?
No. While we can appreciate the efforts of solitary satr
desiring to learn more about our Folkway, we have neither the
resources nor volunteers available to mentor inmates on a one-
on-one basis. We suggest you write to:
