Which is better? Pharmacological Intervention or Herbal Intervention? 2

There is no doubt that pharmacological treatment is highly effective in treating sudden a serious

illness and accident compare to herbal treatment. Prescription drugs can often be the answer for

life-threatening conditions including high blood pressure, high cholesterol or even cancer. These

drugs help stimulate and mimic a well-functioning body, so there are a number of people whose

lives are saved daily because of prescription drugs. Without them, they would have a lower

quality of life and even risk death. in the side of herbal medicine it is believe that the treatment

plan that features element that are natural to the chemical makeup of the human body are best.,

there is also belief that the reason prescription medication use of herb associated with unpleasant

side effect is because they go against what the body really needs .how ever there is no concrete

data that proves that herbal medicine is better. Herbal medicine is the mainstay of the worlds

population especially in the under developed country, for primary health care because of better

cultural acceptability , better compatibility with the human body and lesser side effects. Many

supporters of herbal medicine argue that products with long history of popular use are generally

safe when used properly at common therapeutic dose (Fong, 2002).the bottom line is that

pharmacological and herbal intervention have some advantages and disadvantages. Both can be

effective as long as they are being used properly. As a nurse it is our responsibility to educate our

patient not only in the hospital but also in the community setting about the proper use of

prescription drugs and herbal medications.
