1. LAPORAN PENILAIAN PRESTASI MENGIKUT KONSTRUK


(KEKUATAN, KELEMAHAN DAN KESILAPAN)
1.1 Give appropriate responses/converse on a topic effectively

1.1.1 Strength
Students are compatible and prove themselves competent in aural-oral
communication. If given more opportunities and assistance, they would be
able to perform well. They attempt to respond as expected of them in
instantaneous questions and answers activities.

1.1.2 Weakness
Some students came with a limited understanding of the topic, therefore,
demonstrated inability to hold discussion. Some of them were even afraid
to talk due to low self-esteem in term of making grammatical errors while
speaking.

1.2 Speak fluently using correct and acceptable pronunciation

1.2.1 Strength
Students who were exposed with English media and materials seem to be
enjoying the assessment as they can easily pronounce the words and
speak out whatever comes from their head. They have the ability to
imitate the sound of words by listening to the native speakers through
songs and TV programmes.

1.2.2 Weakness
Some students face difficulty on pronouncing the words because they
showed lack of interest for anything involving English. A partial usage of
English in their daily life is also a reason to their weak pronunciation.

1.3 Speak coherently

1.3.1 Strength
It is apparent that students are at ease when they are allowed to talk on
familiar issues based on their previous experience and/or topics of their
choice. Generally, their responses are satisfactory and appropriate.

1.3.2 Weakness
Some students obviously face difficulty on sentence structure and
grammatical items. Some are even influenced by the L1. They rely on
texts heavily. This proves that they are not confident enough in their own
pieces of work.

1.4 Speak the language using a wide range of appropriate vocabulary


within context
1.4.1 Strength
Students use the appropriate and relevant words and expression suitable
to the context. The usage of the language is considered fair. The range of
vocabulary used by the students is also acceptable and showed that
students did some reading.

1.4.2 Weakness
Limited sources of information and vocabulary have become the major
obstacle for students in constructing sentences when they speak. Weak
students need to read so that they can widen the range of vocabulary.

1.5 Speak using correct grammar

1.5.1 Strength
Excellent students were able to speak fluently as they mastered near-
perfect grammar. With additional knowledge of the spoken issue, they
managed to provide a meaningful session with beautiful usage of English.

1.5.2 Weakness
Many students were uncomfortable to speak due to the lack of confidence
on grammatical items. They easily make grammatical errors when they
speak. As an L1, they tend to undergo direct translation during the
assessment.

2. KOMEN TENTANG INSTRUMEN

2.1 Allow students to use Educational Technologies in their presentation to lower


their anxiety level. The level of control and guidance should suited to the
students needs, i.e. fully/partially/slightly guided.
3. SARANAN KEPADA CALON

3.1 Aural-oral activities should be encouraged and given focus in the English
Learning Program since the ability to communicate in English is commonly
accepted as a yardstick to measure ones proficiency. Students need to be
exposed to various English materials/activities/programmes so that they can
improve their usage of English language.

4. SARANAN KEPADA GURU

4.1 Weak students need a special remedial program. Encourage a question and
answer discourse so that they will have a low anxiety level throughout the
examination. Have external examiners evaluating the candidates.

5. ISU DAN SARANAN PENAMBAKBAIKAN ULBS

5.1 Students with very little progress and who are unable to master basic
speaking skills may need a special remedial programme. Encourage a
question and answer discourse so that the candidate will have a low anxiety
level throughout the examination because being teen students, laughter and
joy will spark off and it would be fun seeing how the students try to duck
when thrown with all kinds of questions by their peers. Furthermore should
have external examiners evaluating the candidates.
