masterplan
new urban centre
a vi s i on for Aci li a

In the area of Acilia, a neighborhood and a fraction of Rome, Italy, located about half- way between Rome and Ostia, along the Via Ostiense.
e concept of the masterplan seeks a landscape of consistent order and uni ed design, guided by the following general principles.
Civic scale. e civic open spaces should be scaled to be consistent with local institutional buildings and the campus as a whole and from
another side the residential buildings creating a complementary unities.ese spaces should adopt a scale and consistency in keeping with
the overall plan as a single landscape experience. Plantings in these spaces should consist principally of large, graceful trees arranged to de ne a clear
spatial order rather than smaller, merely decorative plantings. Plants should be used in large bold strokes rather than as small individual gestures.
Pedestrian character. While campus streets are the principal avenues for vehicular movement, they also serve as primary paths of
pedestrian activity.
Sidewalks should ideally be separated from the street curb by a planted tree lawn that physically and psychologically separates pedestrians from
vehicles. All streets should provide shade for sidewalks, whether the trees are planted between the curb and sidewalk or outside of the sidewalk.
Shade trees will also have the bene t of making the spatial scale of the street environment friendlier for walkers as well as people in vehicles.
Nature recall. As a way to increase the sense of closeness to nature, the residential buildings adapted a design allowing a sort of hook that
binds the preexistent agricultural elds and future buildings. Along the avenue will be programmed a commercial front.

a people care about space
SanGalli Acquadotto park

When Old and New Collide

e park is located in Giordano Sangalli Torpignattara district. LAcquedotto Alessandrino was built in 200 AD by Emperor Alexander Severus from which
it takes its name.
LAcquedotto Alessandrino was sometimes subject of residents complaints of deterioration and neglect.
e design solution rested on the redevelopment of the areas local qualities. Given the history of the place, the project sought to revitalize the site while
preserving its time-characteristic elements and forms.
Creating various levels and viewpoints and the use of a variety of dierent materials set this park apart from its urban and concrete surroundings,
and draw the passersby into the space, encouraging various activities and social engagements. e park concept is about containning a new hub
of commnity activity, a destination within the zone, and will lay the groundwork for a future permanent park that is responsive to all of its visitors.
Creating places where people can pause, gather, play, and be exposed to natural elements are a challenge within urban settings, but also
arguably necessary.

new focus of public services for the people, and as a meeting place for visitors, of information and tourism activities.
e master plan of the urban area on the water and the design of the four public buildings placed on it - an information / services / trade center,
a center for underwater archeology / cultural and exhibition center, a club for boating, a center for beach services and bathing - of small size but
strong formal content, functional and technological, are the theme of the project ideas competition to be concluded by the thematic session of dee-
pening Architecture of coastal margins, organized with the collaboration of CSIAA, to be held at Castle Proceno (VT) at the end of May.

Area caracterisctics
e project area, unidenti ed in the documents annexed hereto, is made from Ladispoli coastal area close to the mouth of the river Vaccina.
e goal of the project is to redevelop the area in his face towards the sea, in the mouth of the river, and to provide a system of new public services
constituting a polarity for the north of Ladispoli area.

e system structure diagram

e project system is hinged on four project areas (buildings) that are home to specialized functions of support to tourism in the culture. e
surrounding open areas will be de ned in connection with the built in a master plan that values the relations with the existing and contribute to its
redevelopment taking into account natural elements already present.

station
modern conception

A new train station for the Cheri an kingdom capital, in the most recent district of the city coming along with launch of High Speed Lines.
e site is on the extreme south of the city representing the major entrance and the rst step toward Casablanca. In the same perimeter
the presence of the big stadium; and the national Zoological park m this train station could be a key to resolve the dysfunctions that know
these structures in order to increase by the way the attractiveness of the zone.

Usually train station are the recall of how railway are such an urban fraction causer. From this perspective it was evident the aim of the project would be to break
this Image and make the station a point of meeting and connection erasing the fracture.More than an urban design scale, it is meant to be a landscape project
promoting the green touch of Rabat.

By putting all the services, the parkings, the commercial blocks under the ground, a large space was taken back in favor of friendlier green landmark.
e bioclimatic trend of the building is obvious. A less exposed building means more control on the thermic variation. Allowing the realization
of an energy ecient building, where also the sun light and heat were calculated not to overheat.

When omas Edison invented the incandescent lamp in the late 1800s, it sparked a true revolution.
He would have said: e electricity will be so cheap that only the rich will light the candle.
Light is essential to our daily lives, but sometimes it tends to be neglected. is for , its important for an architect to master the art of lighting and
demonstrate that it is possible to combine design and visual comfort.Floor lamps, bulbs, suspensions ... e choices are multiplying and moods vary
depending on your mood.

e project chosen to demostrate the importance of primary study about the lighting , is a duplex starting on the sixth story of a residential building.
Designed for a family of four, the spaces inside are various. Each space should own its own mood meanwhile remaining polyfunctional.
Among these spaces , we could nd a very tipical element of the Moroccan culture; e Moroccan salon with its U shape.

Given that the rst level is an open environment, since there is no physical delimitation between the spaces.e light can help de ne spaces in
addition to its inial visual function and create emotional perception.

cafeteria
landmark for students

is work emerges as interested in creating a common and public meeting space. is cafeteria is a steel framed, single-story buildin .
Using a Y-beams type that allows creating long spans.
e building block has a kitchen block to the east, which is a fully enclosed space to cook and serve in. e idea was to try to blur the
boundaries between inside and outside. With a single large internal space and full aperture to the external views, this highly transparent building
becomes a bright, open and inviting cafeteria.
is would be the rst steel building built at the university campus. e building design focuses mainly on its primary function as a cafeteria for
students and to familiarize itself to the student community.
Transparency and clear organization of the space has been important in the design of the facility. e use of glass walls provide overall
visual contact between students and departments, and contributes to excellent daylight conditions in the building.

me to discover so many new horizons. I set a personal goal to sketch every building and place I have been to, more than a challenge it became a pleasant way to
enjoy the architecture.

happi ness
My name is Anas Moutaouakil, a tth year architecture student attending E.N.A of Rabat.
Hailing from Casablanca, Morocco, I have passions for the outdoors, art, travelling and music which I draw upon as a source of inspiration in various
aspects of my life.
During my forth year , I have been studying abroad in Rome, Italy and will continue to until the school year ends. is humbling and life changing
opportunity has allowed me to gain a more in-depth perspective of a culture outside of Morocco, pro ciently learn a new languageand acquire a
more globalized outlook of the world through my various travels.
Since I was a young child, I have always been drawn to creative outlets, from painting my elementarty school year bo ok in the second grade to attending
theater classes. My interests in various arts, aesthetics, sustainability, spaces, and attention to detail are what draws me to the multifaced eld of architeture.
I appreciate an architecture in which form and function coincide in a responsive and creative manor to create diversity, exibility, surprise, and
pleasure within space.
roughout my studies, I have gained a knowledge in a range of design tools such as 2D representation/drawings, graphic representation /design, as
well as 3D modeling both physically and digitally. I took forward to applying the aforementioned skills in a professional setting as well as learning an
abundance of knowledge others have to oer.
