Selection Procedure Service Factors

1. Select an appropriate service factor SF Driver Driven Service Factor (SF)

2. Calculate rating = Power (kW) x SF/Speed (rpm) Turbines, Soft start Steady Torque
1.2
3. Select a coupling with sufficient rating motors Eg. Centrifugal pumps

4. Check hub bore is capable of accommodating shafts Fluctuating Torque

DOL (Direct On line) 1.5
Pumps, Rotary compressors
5. Check Speed is within the maximum for the coupling selected Start Motors (2)
( frequent starts )
6. Specify required dynamic balance DOL (Direct On line) Reciprocating Compressors
3
7. Specify the distance between shaft ends and check this is not less Start Motors 1 - 3 cylinders
than the minimum for the selected coupling
Eg. 90kW Direct on line electric motor DOL (Direct On line) Reciprocating Compressors
2
Start Motors 4 - 6 cylinders
driving a centrifugal pump at 3,000 rpm.
Distance between shaft end = 140mm
Rating = 90 x 1.5 = 0.045kW/rpm DOL (Direct On line) Reciprocating Compressors
