With the world joining hands to work their differences out and to
achieve globalization in its truest sense, we have a lot to look out
for while being a part of a cross-cultural organization. Along with
the sense of inclusiveness and the unity in diversity that such
workplaces promote, there are also times when differences come
along in the workplace.
The few issues that are faced by cross cultural organizations are
as follows:
1. Unpleasant Workculture
When employees from diverse cultures come together to work in
a common platform, it is difficult to understand initially as to why
they behave a certain way or why they dont. Misinterpretation
and prejudice takes over, as a result of which an unpleasant work
culture gets formed.
2. Frustration
We always try to benchmark others behavior to that of ours and
we try to understand things from our perspective rather than from
theirs. This often leads to a sense of frustration that arises out of
our false interpretation. For eg: If punctuality is a trait that we
value and we see that one of our co-worker has the habit of often
coming late, rather than understanding why the person is late we
end up getting frustrated with them as we tend to feel that they
dont value what we do.
3. Challenge of motivation
Motivating a team of culturally diverse people is one of the
hardest tasks that an HR professional has to face. But also, the
one task that needs to be attended to. What motivates one
person might not be something that motivates another. Finding a
common ground that can be used to motivate them is
challenging.

4. Efficiency gets hampered

The efficiency that is often expected out of a culturally diverse
team never gets met as most of the time is spent on
accommodating changes, understanding the differences and
sorting out the problems faced by the team. During such times,
the overall efficiency of the organization gets hampered.
5. Inability to train a diverse team
Often it has been noticed that the senior employees of a company
do not know how to effectively train the culturally diverse team
that they have in their organization. The mentors often lack the
required training that would help them to guide their team and
provide effective mentoring to the members of their team. This in
turn affects their overall productivity which proves detrimental for
the organization as a whole.
