Students will be able to compare fractions with different denominators and numerators.
Students will be able to represent fractions using pictorial models, number lines, or strip
diagrams.
Students will be able to compare fractions using the representations drawn.

Assessment (Description/Criteria)
Students work will be observed while they are working to assess whether they
understand the content. Students work will also be turned in and checked for accuracy.
Mastery will be if they student correctly identifies, represents, and compares fractions on
their work.

Dominoes for each table
Manilla paper for each student

Management of the Instructional Environment


The opening will be held on the carpet as a group assignment to avoid students playing
in their desk, talking to their friends, or just not paying attention during the review and
anchor chart. During their work period students, will be doing individual work. With no
group work assigned I expect the students to be working quietly and staying focused on
their work. During the closing, certain students will present their work. The class will
practice being a good audience member by listening, being respectful, and focusing on
what their fellow classmate is presenting.

Technology Integration
Students will present their work using a projector.

Diversity and Equity (Accommodations, Modifications, Adaptations)


ELL students- written directions on the board to follow for clarification. Along with an
example of the work that is expected.
GT students- If students fill both the front and the back of the manila paper they will go
into their J.A.M. folders to work on their BINGO work.

Activities/Procedures
1. Gather students on the carpet for the opening. Review that we have been working
on fractions and comparing them.
2. Create an anchor chart with the different ways of representing: pictures, number
lines, and strip diagrams.
3. Have the students go back to their desks and pass out manila paper to each
student and a bag of dominoes to each group. (remind the students to pull out
only one domino at a time. They should write their fraction down then put back to
pull another one.)
4. Have the students fold their manila paper in thirds. Explain the first column is for
their fractions, the second is for their representations, and then the last one they
should compare the fraction. (the first set should be modeled by the teacher)
5. The students will work individually.
6. To close have the students clean their desk except for their manila papers. Have a
few students share their work.
