Academic Integrity Assignment

After viewing the Academic Integrity Policy and the Common


Craft: Plagiarism Video, please respond to the following
questions:

1 Plagiarism is commonly referred to as

Plagiarism is also known as stealing, when you use work that is


not yours and you do not give proper credit you are in fact
stealing that persons work and putting your name on it, trying
to pass it off as your own.

2 How will student work be checked for plagiarism? (List at


least two ways)

To check students work for plagiarism teachers can use


websites such as DupliChecker or CopyLeaks and they will
scan the internet for articles that are similar. Teachers can
also refer to students older work and see if their new work is
consistent with it, because students all have different writing
styles, and you can tell when it does not sound like it was
their work.

3 Sanctions for plagiarism include (list at least two possible


consequences):

Sanctions for plagiarism are very severe, people who


plagiarize and get caught can ruin their reputation,
academically and professionally. They can also be sentenced
to prison because plagiarizing is part of copyright laws.
4 What is the difference between accidental plagiarism and
deliberate plagiarism?

Accidental plagiarism means you didnt mean to do it, or you


didnt know that you were doing it, whereas deliberate
plagiarism means you are copying someone elses work on
purpose for your own benefit.

5 How can you avoid plagiarism, while still integrating support


(ideas and quotes) in your own work?

To avoid plagiarism in your work, you can quote where you


got the information, add the persons name who created did
the work, use only your own words and summarize or
paraphrase the idea but make sure you reference the main
source of the information.

6 Other than the written work, what other items can be


plagiarized? Can you still use these items? How?

Other items that can be plagiarized are speeches, artwork,


statistics, music and structural models. You can still use
these items, but you must make sure you give credit to the
creator or main source.

7 Do some internet research and find at least one website (not


listed in the Academic Integrity Policy or on the Common
Craft Video) that helped you understand how to avoid
plagiarism.
