Content Area: Social Studies/Geography
Standards Addressed: SS1G3 Locate major topographical features of the earths surface. a. Locate all
of the continents: North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Antarctica, and Australia. b.
Locate the major oceans: Arctic, Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Ocean. c. Identify and describe landforms

Student Response Technology Used:

Technology that students will use to respond to questions/prompts:
Computer Hand-held student response system (such as iRespond) Phone
Tablet (such as iPad Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Describe the instructional activities that will occur prior to the SRS activity and how you will
introduce the SRS activity: The instruction that will happen is the teacher will give a lesson about
continents and oceans on Earth as it relates to that standard. The teacher will have stations set up around the
classroom. Each station being a continent or ocean with facts about that particular station. The students will
have a worksheet that they can write down the information learned during station time. The teacher can
then use the computers or tablet to take a formative Socrative quiz. The quiz will let a teacher know what
needs to be re-taught and how an activity such as the stations can be fixed to help a student better
understand.
Describe the purpose of the SRS activity (check all that apply):
Assess Prior Knowledge Anticipatory Set (Create Interest in a Topic) To Illuminate Common
Misconceptions Formative Assessment of Content Knowledge (for purposes of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) Summative Assessment of Content Knowledge Test Preparation
Survey/Poll Discussion Starter Homework Collection Other
Additional explanation of purpose (optional): It will gage what the students have learned throughout the
lesson and the activity, and what the teacher needs to go back and reteach

Type of session: Teacher-Paced Student-Paced

Identification of students:
Students will log-in so their individual scores will be available to you after the session
SRS activity will be anonymous
Briefly describe what will happen during the SRS activity (For example: What will students do? What
will the teacher do? What materials are needed? How long will the SRS activity take? The overview should
be a minimum of 2 paragraphs.): The 6-question quiz should take the 1st graders around 10-15 minutes to
complete give or take. A teacher should allow for those that are slower readers or have a hard time
comprehending questions to have more time. The students will listen to the lecture on the continents and
oceans that are on Earth, after they listen to the lecture, they will have a review on the topics. The 6-
question quiz will be taken to gage what the students know from the teacher teaching the lesson.

The students will need either a computer or a tablet to take the assessment. All tablets need to be charged to
a point that they are usable so that it does not shut down during the assessment. The assessment should take
no longer than 15 minutes, if it does students should be encouraged to complete it in a timely manner.

Types of questions/prompts (Check all that apply):
Multiple choice Multiple Select True/False Yes/No Short open-ended response
or fill in the blank Longer open-ended response
Provide samples of questions/prompts to be given to students: Of the ones listed, which continent is the
biggest? Which continent is not inhabited? Name all of the oceans.

Right/Wrong Answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions? . Yes No

Mixed (Some will have correct answers, others will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback:
Will you pre-select correct answers to some or all of the questions and display correct response to the class
after the SRS activity? Yes No
Why or why not? The students can take the test and after they are done, the teacher will display correct
answers as a way to have a classroom discussion on the answers.
Use of data: What data will be collected as a result of this activity? How will it be used and by whom?
(For example: Will information collected from this activity be used to award a grade? Will the individual
information collected be shared with students and/or parents to help them monitor individual progress?
Will you discuss the aggregate, anonymous data with the whole class to help them learn? Will you use data
to differentiate instruction for students, if so describe how?) The data collected from the assessment will be
used for differentiation instruction-if students can`t remember the oceans, they will be paired up and work
with other students who are having the same struggles with the topic. The teacher will use the data to figure
out what needs to be taught
Describe what will occur after the SRS activity: After the activity, the students will be able to ask any
questions that they need further help on. The students will be able to do extension activities that will help
them to understand what they missed and how they can fix it and learn from it.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. (For example: What are you trying that you have
not tried before? What do you hope to learn from this activity? How do you hope it will help students learn?
You must design something that will help you learn something new. Honor system!): I hope that the
students will learn or remember the information that was previously discussed during the lecture. If the
students do not understand, then I will re work the stations to make sure that the students have a better
understanding of the topic. From the activity, I hope to learn how my students feel about the activities that
we do, and how well they are understanding the lesson in class.
