Introduction :
Organic molecule is the molecule that makes living things . Catagories of organic
molecule are divide into 4 types, protein , lipid , nucleic acid and carbohydrate .This
topic,we will study about carbohydrate , protein , lipids , monomer and polymer.
Livingthing forms the organic molecules joinning by monomer together to form polymer
by dehydration reaction .
Purpose : To find out the positive and negative controls of each test solution( Biuret,
Benedicts,Iodine,Absolute Ethanol) and the component of organic molecules in unknown
solution.
Hypothesis: If we drop the iodine solution into the chemical sample that contains
carbohydrate then the color will change from Brown into dark blue.if we drop the
Benedict solution into the chemical sample that contains sugar(monosaccharide) and we
boil it then the color will change from light blue into red or yellow sediment. If we drop
the Biuret solution into the chemical sample that cotains protein then the color will
change from blue into dark purple.

Flow Chart
Procedure :Carbohydrate and Protein :
1. Fill 300 ML of water into the 500 ML beaker with a magnetic stirrer.Place the beaker on
the hot plate (Do not to on the hot plate until told)
2.Ask an instructure or lab technician to show you how to use hot plate .Turn on your hot
plate and the strirrer to the instructure level.
3. Make label (Using the abbreriation in the table 4 ) on provided making tape to be place
on outside of each test tube . this is done so you do not forget which test tube contain
what sample.use chart below for abbreviation.
Procedure : Lipids (Oil)
1.Collected 2 test tube labeled A , B from your instructure
2.Uncrew the cup of test tube
3.Add Approximately the same amount of absolute ethanol into each tube .
*** CAUTION ***
***
Absolute Ethanol in Highlyflamable , do not pour wthanol near hot plate. Failure to
follow this rule will result in 10% deduction from your lab report score .
***

4.screw the cup back on tightly

5.shake each tube virgorrusly . observe the change and record the finding in the result
section
6.call your instructure to show you the brown - paper and record the finding in the result
section .

Analyzing Result :
1. Does rice store glucose as strach ? how do you now from your result ?
ANSWER :Yes because as the information from the data-table that shows ,there is no
color changing for the Strach and Rice( sugar-->Benedict solution) these 2 has the same
color as before we drop the benedict solotion so they are equal(Both does not contain
sugar).

2. Do onion stored glucose as strach ? how do you know from your result ?
ANSWER :No, because during the experiment of Benedicts solution, color of onion was
changed in to yellow so it means that onion contains a few amount of glucose but the
strach doen not.

3.What sugar is most likely present in diluted Yougurt ?

ANSWER :Glucose and some of the monosaccharide sugar is the mose likely present in
diluted Yougurt because as the information in the data table shows that, in the benedict
experiment, the color was change from blue into orange so it contains Glucose.

4.A test tube contain starch , a digestive enzyme for starch , and water . the buiret test is
negative showing no change . however , after 30 minutes , the benedict test is positive .
what substance is present ? how do you know ?
Answer : starch and biuret doesn't react with other digestive enzyme for starch and water
broke polysaccharide to monosaccharide . The Benedict test is positive

5. Explain how you would test an unknown solution for each of the following
a sugar : if we demonstrate Benedict solution and the color of unknown solution will
change into red
b fat : if we demonstrate solution And the Colour of unknown solution will
change into red
c starch : If we demonstrate Iodine solution and the color of unknown solution changed
when we do the experiment to dark blue. So the unknown solution is composed of
starch.
d.protein : If we demonstrate Biuret solution and the color of unknow solution changed
when we do the experiment to purple. So the unknown solution is composed of protein.

Conclusion :
From the information that includes the data table and the experiment notes, we will know
and understand how the testing solution works to the pairs up nutrient such as Benedict
will react with monosaccharide,Biuret will react with protein, Iodine will react with
carbohydrate and if we drop the ethanol solution into lipid so the color will change from
bright color into the yellow color.
