1 vs 1 Possession

Equipment:
1x Basketball per pair
What do I do?
Split the group up into pairs, give each pair one basketball each.
Pairs number themselves 1 and 2.
Number 1 starts with the ball.
The pupil with the ball is aiming to dribble past the defender.
The defender must try to beat their opponent to position to steal the ball back
from them.
Once at the other side of the court, the partner swap roles and go again.

Key: Teaching Points for Defending:

Pupil number 1 (Attacker) Drag trailing foot when moving
Pupil number 2 (Defender) Keep arms up
Basketball Head up
Basketball Hoop Put stronger foot forward
Direction of dribble

Progressions:
Defender can swipe the ball away from
attacker
Make the space bigger
Introduce points for successful tackle
Allow attacker to attempt a shot, points for
scoring
