Educational Technology

Weebly Tech Credo
“There can be infinite uses of the computer and of new age technology, but if teachers

themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails.” - Nancy

Kassebaum. Technology is continuously updating and expanding in today’s society. It has grown

far greater than anyone could have anticipated a century ago. Technology and digital age media

is being incorporated into schools and classrooms all across the globe, and it is the teacher’s job

to use it as a tool to better the student’s learning.

An effective teacher will use technology as a tool to inspire student learning and

encourage creativity. She will incorporate the exploration of real-world issues using

technological tools and resources, as well as promote, support, and model creativity and

innovative thinking (ISTE-T 1.a-b). She will also teach her student’s the skill of collaboration in

both face to face and virtual environments (ISTE-T 1.d). This allows the students to connect with

their fellow peers as well as students across the globe.

An effective teacher must be willing to design a technology-enriched learning

environment that enables all students to pursue their individual interests and become active

participants in setting their own educational goals (ISTE-T 2.b). Providing the students with a

variety of digital tools allows them to personalize the learning activities. This addresses the

student’s diverse learning styles and working strategies, as well as giving them the freedom of

choice (ISTE-T 2.b). An effective teacher will use multiple formative and summative

assessments to see where the students are academically standing with the use of technology

(ISTE-T 2.d). The teacher will collect the data from the assessments and alter her teaching

methods to meet the needs of the students if needed.

It is important that the teacher models her knowledge and skills for her students. An

effective teacher will model and demonstrate the proper and most effective use of technology in
the classroom (ISTE-T 3.d). She will teach the students safe, legal, and ethical use of digital

information and technology. This would include lessons on the respect of copyright, intellectual

property, and the appropriate documentation of sources (ISTE-T 4.a). She will communicate

information and ideas effectively with fellow staff, administration, her students, and their parents

using a variety of digital formats (ISTE-T 3.c).

Technology and digital age media is being incorporated into schools and classrooms all

across the globe. It is the teacher’s job to utilize digital tools to expand the horizon of student

learning. An effective teacher will provide her students with a variety of technological activities

to give her students the freedom of choice. She will also model the proper and most effective use

of digital tools in the classroom setting. By combining these methods into daily instruction, the

teacher will be able to bring technology into the classroom and make it work.
