o Blank Firing Attachment @
for Stoner Weapons System, cal. 5,56 mm
DE KRUITHOORN | and N-16 Rifle, cal. 5,56 mm page 1
Introduction *
To fire blank cartridges cal. 5,56 mm with subject weapons a
Blank Firing Attachment (BFA) is necessary.
The barrels of subject weapons are of five configurations, which
may not be changed or modified to accept the BFA.
The BFA must fit on
barrel - Stoner Assault Rifle
- Stoner Carbine
- Stoner LMG, Magazine Feed
Stoner LMG, Belt Feed
M-16 Rifle
The BFA must be attached safely and simply without using any tools.
All mentioned weapons should function in automatic fire, with the
BFA attached. z
Damages to the weapons are not allowed, and the life-time of the
BFA should be at least equivalent to the life-time of any vital
weapon part. The overall weight of the BFA must be as low as
allowed by safety precautions.
The BFA, designed and developed by NWN, meets all these
requirements.
Description
On all subject weapons the BPA is fitted to the flash-suppressor,
which is of tvo different types (please refer to attached drawing
nr. M 27226, marked M16 and Stoner Weapons System). However the
external diameters of both types of flash-suppressor may considered
identical for all practical purposes.
The BFA consists of three main parts:
- Clamping Fixture (1)
- Housing (2)
- Mounting Pin with gas-channel (3) >

The clamping fixture is cut in two pieces along~the axis, Thereafter
the two pieces are connected again in such a way, that the
clamping fixture can be easily opened and closed. On the inside of
the clamping fixture an extention is present, which fits in the
forward groove (4) of the flash-suppressor of the M16. Fitted on
the flash-suppressor of the Stoner Weapons System, the inner
diameter of the clamping fixture fits around the flash-suppressor
at its smallest diameter.
The clamping fixture is fitted around the flash-suppressor and
closed. Next the housing is screwed on the clamping fixture. The
thread of the clamping fixture is cone-shaped to compensate for
any minor differences in diameter of the flash-suppressor. The
outside of the housing is knurled, in order to allow a firm grip
with bere hands. Finally the mounting pin is screwed into the
housing and firmly tightened by hand.
On the M16 the cylindrical part (6) of the mounting pin fits into
the cylindrical part of the flash-suppressor, which assures a
gastight fit. *
On the Stoner Weapons System the same assembling method is followed.
Here the closing-of of the barrel is achieved by the cone (9) of
the mounting pin, which cone, in its dimensions, is identical to
the cone of the flash-suppressor.
The gasport (10) is chosen at such a diameter that the required
eyclic rate of fire is accomplished. For all Stoner weapons using
the NWM-IVK blank cartridges cal. 5,56, with allongated neck, one
diameter of the gas-channel in the mounting pin is used.
(diameter 2,5 ty
For the M16 rifle a mounting pin with a gas-channel diameter of
2 mm has to be used.
