Course Description:
This course provides students with a working knowledge of computers and their application
in the fields of Construction and Civil Engineering. Topics include computer systems,
terminology, internet use and searches, word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), and
presentation software (PowerPoint). The student will learn how to use these tools to manage
construction projects, prepare estimates, proposals, and oral presentations through Project
Based Learning. Students will work in groups to explore real world challenges and develop
cross-curriculum skills. The student will apply concepts to respond to a Request for Proposal
(RFP).

Academic Integrity Policy
Students and all other who work with information, ideas, texts, images, music, inventions,
and other intellectual property owe their audience and sources accuracy and honesty in
using, crediting, and citing sources. As a community of intellectual and professional
workers, the College recognizes its responsibility for providing instruction in information
literacy and academic integrity, offering models of good practice, and responding vigilantly
and appropriately to infractions of academic integrity.
Accordingly, academic dishonestly is prohibited in The City University of New York and
at New York City College of Technology and is punishable by penalties, including failing
grades, suspension, or expulsion
Attendance Policy:
You are permitted to be absent from class a maximum of two classes for those that
meet only once a week. This is in accordance with college policy that sets the maximum
number of permissible absences at 10% of the number of class meetings scheduled for the
semester. Students are responsible for insuring that they have been marked present for
each class.
Late Policy:
Any student who arrives after the attendance has been taken will be considered late.
Two such latenesses will count as one absence. Any student who exceeds the
maximum number of permitted absences will receive a grade of WU for the course,
regardless of class grade.
After being late twice, you will lose 1 point from your final grade for every
following tardy.
In the event of an emergency, which constitutes an excused absence, the student must
provide the instructor with proper documentation.
Exams
Missed Quizzes - No Make-ups! Only in extreme emergencies and if schedule permits!
You must send me an e-mail the day of the Exam before the start of the exam. If you do not
contact me, NO make-up will be given and you will receive a Grade of ZERO (0) for the
missed Exam. In all cases you should come to me the First Day you return to class.

Lab Exercises
All lab exercises must be started and completed in class.
Late Lab Exercises will not be accepted.
Lab Exercises must be submitted via email at the end of class unless otherwise
specified.
Class Lateness will result in 1 2 point reduction in Lab Grade.
Homework Assignments
Homework assignments must be submitted at the start of class on the Due Date.
Late Homework Assignments Will Not Be Accepted. No - Excuses!
You will not be able to resubmit Homework Assignments.

Project Assignments
Project assignments must be submitted at the specified time on the Due Date.
Any Project Assignment submitted 1 class late will lose 10% of its value.
NO Project Assignment will be accepted more than 1 class late. This will result in a
value of ZERO for that assignment.
BLACKBOARD
ALL Assignments and Course Information will be posted on blackboard.
You will not receive printed copies of material for this class.
Real World Clause: In life there are emergencies, certain events, and other extenuating
circumstances that are beyond our control. In the event that a student cannot adhere to the
policies listed in Exams, Lab Exercises/ Homework Assignments or Absences, the student
