My social action video is based around showing the

issue that people with disabilities can suffer with, and
the issue that can rise
in there every day lives.
We worked with
Scullers caf in Marlow,
to see how they help young people with disabilities and try
to help them further their skills and get them into full time
education. We interviewed several different people to try
to get a first-hand opinion on what someone else thought
about the matter. By doing this, we wanted to raise
awareness of the problem happening, not just locally but
globally and help people further for their future.
I wanted to see what others thought about my social action
video, so I carried out a survey to gather data and facts about things that worked well in my
social action, and things that I could have improved on. I questioned a variety of different
people from a variety of different ages, to get a variety of results.
I tried to ensure that my video was effective in showing the issue that was arising, as I made
the problem a key fixture throughout my
documentary, and gave facts and statistics
throughout, to back up the points I was making.
Many people who answered my survey thought
that my social action was effective in showing
the issue, as it showed various problems in the
area, and the use of clear narration and
appropriate footage over this, allowed the
audience to understand the use and purpose of
my social action video. All people who
answered my survey thought that my social
action did fit the purpose of it, which shows that
I had made a successful social action video, due
to the fact I was able to raise awareness for
other people. I personally believe that I did
create a social action that was effective in showing the issue, as I clearly highlighted key
points that were causing a concern, and areas that may need to be improved in the future.
I also tried to find out if I delivered my content correctly, and ensured that my content was
highly memorable for the audience to remember. I attempted to do this by ensuring that my
narration was as understandable as possible, and clearly highlighted the concerns and facts
for the audience to easily understand throughout my documentary. I also conducted a
question to see if my audience thought my video delivered the content correctly in my
video, which allowed me to see if my social
action worked successfully. From my results
gathered, I found that 100% of people
questioned thought I did deliver my content
correctly through my documentary. This shows
that I was able to meet my audiences needs,
without offending anyone. I personally believe
that I did deliver my content correctly, as I
managed to talk about a sensitive subject
without having any potentially offensive
material in my video.
I wanted my social action to leave an impact on the audience, and allow them to feel an
emotional response after watching the video. This was
vital in trying to raise awareness for the problem that
was arising with people with disabilities. I tried to make
my video leave an impact, by making it interesting
throughout, which would hopefully captivate the
audience into what they were watching. I tried to do
this by using upbeat music, various camera angles and
multiple interviews to give different perspective. I also
tried to
give a storyline of someone that had been
helped by the Caf to make it more
personal and give the audience a
perspective from someone who suffers with
a disability. This allowed the audience to
feel a more emotional connection with
person being interviewed, as they felt more
sympathy after hearing her story. I asked
people in my survey if they thought that my social action did leave an impact. From my
results, I found that 100% of people questioned thought that it did leave an impact, which
shows I was able to meet my original criteria. I personally believe I did make an impact, as I
tried to make it most impacting for the audience to watch.
Before I started filming my social action, I ensure that I had a clear target audience in mind,
so I could present my social action
around them, and ensure that they
were the key focus. I choose the
residents of Marlow, as the main
target audience to focus on. I believed
they would relate to it more, as they
find it more related to them, as it is in
their local area and an issue that is
happening with people they may
know. I tried to make my social action appropriate for my target audience, as I focussed on
Marlow a lot when filming various b-roll, and mentioned
it a lot during the narration. This allowed the potential
target audience to appeal to it more, as I was talking
about something in there area. I put a question together
to see if my audience thought that my social action was
appropriate for the residents of Marlow. From my
results, I found that 100% of people questioned through
that my social action did fit my chosen target audience,
which shows my video has a clear noticeable target
audience. I personally believe that I did ensure I met my
target audiences needs, however I believe to make it more personal I could have
interviewed a resident of Marlow to get perspective from someone who lives in the area.
When planning my social action, I wanted to ensure that I
kept the audience interested throughout by making my
social action as interesting throughout. My original
intentions for my video was to try to captivate the
audience and make them intrigued by what they were
watching straight away. Lastly, I wanted to try to evoke an
emotional response from the reader, where they would
hopefully feel more passionately about what is going on. I
asked my audience whether they thought my audience
would be kept intrigued throughout my video, which was one thing I wanted from my social
action video. From my results, I gathered that all people questioned thought that I did
intrigue them throughout my video, which shows that my video was interesting to watch.
This is vitally important to ensure that my audience is kept captivated to make sure the
message is clearly deliver to the audience and ensures that the word is spread. I personally
believe I did make my video interesting; however, I also believe that in the future
I could make it more upbeat to make the audience have a more positive emotional response
when they watch it.
To ensure my social action video was successful as possible, I tried to include various
different technical aspects to it, which would
make it look as professional as possible and as
intriguing for the audience to watch. I used
various different camera angles in my social
action from close up to long shot and panning
shots, which allowed more variety in my
video. I also included two different camera
angles in my interviews, to show multiple
perspectives of the people interviewed, which
made it look more professional and interesting
at the same time for the audience. I also asked
my audience what technical qualities were
good, so I could find out the most successful
parts of my social action. I gathered many
different results from my questionnaire, where I found out that over 50% of people
questioned thought that the use of camera angles were the best technical qualities shown in
my social action. In addition, around
25% of people thought the editing was
the best technical qualities shown.
These results show that the fact IO
used a wide range of camera angles,
made the overall look of my social
action more successful in general. I
believe that I did use a good amount of
technical qualities, and the techniques I
used were successfully carried out to a professional standard. However, I believe to improve
the overall technical qualities I could have included a
more diverse range of shots during the interviews, to
make them appear more unique and interesting for the
viewer.
The overall aesthetic quality was also vitally important to
consider in my social action video, this was because I
needed to ensure the overall look was the best it could
possibly be to ensure the audience was captivated
throughout. I tried to ensure the aesthetic was successful,
as I used high quality cameras that would aperture video
footage in the best quality, which would make it more
appealing to the audience. I also tried to use a wider
range of diverse shots, which would show multiple
different perspectives, improving the look of the social action video. I also tried to make
more of my shots unique by having some in focus and others out of focus, which allowed
more views from the camera to be presented for the audience. I tried to find out what my
audience thought about the aesthetic qualities through my survey. I managed to find out,
that most people questioned thought, the quality was very high, and this shows that I
managed to produce a social action video that
would be more appealing due to the quality. In
addition, from the results I found that the
audience thought that the use of shots of
Marlow, managed to set the scene for the
documentary, which allowed them to understand

what was going on. I personally believe that

my social action video did include a wide
range of aesthetic qualities, which allowed
them to work successfully throughout my
video. However, I believe that I could have
included a bigger range of aesthetic qualities,
which would have made the overall look
better. To do this, I could have changed the
colours in my video to make the overall look more interesting, and change the overall look
to become more professional.

During my social action group, I worked in a group of three, where we were all given
individual roles to try to produce a successful social action video together. Together we able
to give each person individual roles, from narrator, cameraperson and director. The equally
spaced roles allowed us to work together to meet the criteria of the brief given, by making
sure filming ran smoothly and we were all up-to-date with what we needed to do. I believe
that together we worked successfully, as we all worked together on each role rather than
individually and we always helped each other if needed. This helped us to produce a
successful social action video to a similar professional standard.

Before we started planning our social action video, we looked at similar videos that had
been done before eon the similar subject. We found two
other videos that were based around a similar subject of
disabilities. These videos were able to raise awareness on
the subject and intrigue the audience throughout. The
videos we looked at were, The Disability Action Centre
and Development disabilities, which were both fairly
similar. Both videos were able to show clear narration
throughout, with facts and statistics, giving the audience
more knowledge into the social action. Both videos also used a wide range of found footage
and many different camera angles, which helped the overall perspective and look of this
type of video. These videos were set up in
a similar way to mine, as they had
interviews with multiple camera angles,
lots of b-roll and narration over this.
However there were some differences
between the video that I found and the
one I produced. The main difference was
the timing, as mine was over 10 minutes,
which was able to give the audience a real
insight into the charity and raise awareness for the subject. However, the videos I look at
were only around 5 minutes long, which shows a clear difference.
Lastly, to see if I could improve anything in my social action, I asked people in my
questionnaire if they thought I could have
improved anything in my social action video.
This would allow me to determine things that I
could do better if I was to repeat this process
again. From my results, I gathered that most
people thought the interviews could have been
improved, to appear more professional for the
audience. They thought that more diverse
camera angles could have been included in the
interviews to make them look more
professional. The results also showed that
more facts could have been included, which
would have made the social action video more
memorable and give the audience more
knowledge on the subject I am discussing. From the results I also found that some people
suggested that I could have made it more upbeat, by giving it more flow and possibly
shorter, which would allow the subject to be addresses smoothly and made to be more
interesting for the audience. Therefore, from these results I have found many things that I
could improve on, to make my social action video more successful and popular for the
audience. I believe that I did manage to produce a social action video that addressed the
issue and would help raise
awareness on this subject.
However, I think there are a few
technical problems with my
social action that I could have
improved on, like the interview
set up and the use of facts,
which would allow the issue to
come across more easily for the
audience.
