First week

My impression for Shariah American international School in first


week it is not clear yet because they were busy with some project
and event such as (mother day and international day). The
calibration of international day will be on Thursday 23th of Feb
2017 so it is in same week that we start our practicum. I was in
1B class in grade 1,This class should present about Canada so the
teacher give them example about this country such as food,
sports and I participate and help my MST and assistant by give
them some idea to decorate the wall of the class room. However,
they also start with math performance assessment project (Tenth
and ones project) in class by bring materials they can use from
home so each of them they have different tools and different
ways to do it). In addition, the overall of school is completely
different from government, not in classroom environment or
design but in way that teacher is very close with student and
listen to them, greet them in the morning with smelling and
student feel confident while they speak with teacher so I believe
that good and positive relationship with teacher lets student to
love the school and feel comfortable in class.

Second week
Parent and school relationship and communication to support
children learning, from what I saw parent involve in school by
coming with their children in school in morning, interring the
classroom and greeting the teacher. For example, one of the
parents she faces difficulty in math project so she attends the
school and asks the teacher about it and teacher explain for her.
At the end of the day parent comes to take their children by
interring the class so that impact on positively for children, they
feel happy when they see their parent waiting, greeting, seeing
him and communicate with teacher in class. Moreover, I feel
happy when I saw that because that means they care about their
children and develop student emotional skills. I sit with my MST
Ms. Lana to discuss about this topic (ways that family
involvement in school). She said, they communicate with Class
Dojo Program, parent and teacher can share student activities or
projects between each other and write comment in it; however
they also use it if they face difficulty in activity or remind the
teacher if her or his child will be absent. In addition, they are
other ways they us it to communicate such as email, phone call,
text message, parent evening meeting to know student progress,

and school portal www.saisuaq.com to view weekly plan.

Third week
Evaluating experience, I have opportunity to participate with MST
to evaluate student math and science project by using rubric
project paper. Student did tens and ones project for math and
natural recourse and product for science. They do this project
during the lesson by their own and teacher help student who feel
difficulty and need helps. In next day, they did presentation for
their project in front of classmate.

From what I discern in Shariah American


international School the curriculum for grade 1 depend to support
in reading and writing skills. They do a lot of writing in each day,
they write new vocabulary in note , writing in books and dictation
every Wednesday or Thursday. For reading, every day they read
digital story in school with teacher by using smart board, then
teacher chose student to read one sentence in the story. After
that she asks them different types of question that relate with
story such as main idea, T/F, multiple choices so that develop
student critical thinking and solving problem skills. In short,
students in 1B able to reading sentences and writing in clear
hand writing.

One thing that I like it
during my Tp as I said
student using book most of the
time, one day the they do outdoor activity in science subject
(object in the sky unite) they go out to measure their shadow so
each student with her or his partner they measure the shadow by
using their feet.

Forth week
In this week I discuss with my MST about formative and
summative assessment they use for grade one, from what she
said they use summative assessment for tests and projects for
each subject, for instance they do the project in the classroom to
know the student performance. However they use formative
assessment during the lesson such as observation, ask questions,
during the activities and using online reading. For reading online
they use (Raz Kids) program that include many story in different
level start with A and end to Z start with easy language to
difficult. Each story include three different step: first the story is
digital type so they hear the story, second they start to read each
sentence in the story, third move to question that relate with
story and include different kind of question such as main idea, T/F
and all question are multiple choice. However each of child have
own account in this program so the teacher know their points and
how many story they read and teacher make board in the class
for Raz kids that includes student pictures, she add star for
student who read more to encourage them to improve reading
skills.

On the other hand, I talk with teacher shes Kg teacher about


using formative and summative assessment to assess the
student. They use formative assessment during the lesson and
walk around them while they working by observing them. For
summative assessment thy use report card that include each
subject with learning outcome, it is like checklist so teacher
evaluate student if the student did this topic (learning outcome
for each subject) or not.

In addition, in this week also the staff which are teachers and
student are busy they prepare for Mothers Day. Each day they
make practice for dance and decorate their section in the Gym. I
help my MST and assistant by give them ideas for the celebration
and work with them such as cutting papers and decorate the wall
for my class in the Gym.

Fifth week
My MST use different strategies to
manage student in the
begging of the day or the lesson,
in clean up time, between activities and in the end of the lesson.
She use Dojo program which is adding positive points for student
who is ready for the lesson, sit in the seat and listen to the
teacher. Whoever adding negative points for student who still
talking and walk around the class. In reading time when she feel
that student not attention or speaking with each other she tell
them if I reading you are .. so student know that they should
listen to the teacher while she reading and be attention. Also she
use bell to attract and considerate the student. During the lesson
when she ask multiple choice question for student, she use this
sentence If you think it is . Stand-up this strategy help her to
know what the most student think about and knowing student
knowledge then she explain for them the topic. From what I
observe these ways or strategies work well in classroom even the
student are very active and noisy because there are too many
student in this class. Because it is last week before the vocation,
the school invite the parent to show the student project, grads
and performance for all subject such as English ,Math, Science
,Social Study ,Arabic and Islamic. Parent and teacher they
discussed with each other about student skills if need to improve
and teacher give them strategies to help them to improve the
student ability at home. In the end of the day parent take student
project at home. In addition this is the last day for me in this
school, I will miss my MST and student also assistant because I
was very close and feel comfortable with them.
