Lesson Plan in Grade VI Mathematics

I. Objectives: At the end of the discussion, the pupils are expected to:
1. define partitive proportion;
2. compute partitive proportion; and
3. relate partitive proportion to real life situation.

II. Subject Matter: Partitive Proportion

Reference:
Materials: chart, picture cut-outs, chalk and board.

III. Procedure

1. Drill/Review
Good morning class! Good morning,
teacher
We will be your teachers this morning.
I am teacher Ron, and I am teacher Jayson.
We will divide you into two groups
and each group must have one representative.
Each representative will stand at the back and flash
cards will be shown to them. The flash cards contain
problems involving multiplication and division. Every
correct answer correspond a one step forward. The
first group to reach the board will be declared as the
winner.
Are you now ready? Yes, teacher

2. Motivation
Different letters were scattered inside the
classroom. The student will look for the letters and
arrange it to form two words.

3. New Lesson
Partitive Proportion is the partition of a whole into equal or unequal parts
based on the two rating.

Example:
Divide 105 in the ratio of 3:4
Answer:
105= number representing the total
3 and 4 = terms in the ratio
7 = sum of the terms in the ratio

105/7 = 15 15 x 3 = 45
15 x 4 = 60

Final Answer is 45 and 60

To check, add them all 45 + 60 = 105
Divide 1035 in the ratio of 2:3:4

Answer:

1035= the total

2, 3 and 4= terms in the ratio

9= sum of the terms

1035/9= 115 115 x 2= 230

115 x 3= 345

115 x 4= 460

Checking:

230 + 345 + 460= 1035

A father wants to leave 4675 to his four children in the ratio of

1:3:3:4. How much will each of the four children receive?

Answer:

4675= total amount the father wants to leave to the children

1,3,3, and 4= terms in the ratio

11= sum of the terms

4675/11= 425 425 x 1= 425

425 x 3= 1275

425 x 3= 1275

425 x 4= 1700

Final Answer: 425, 1,275, 1,275, and 1,700

Checking: 425 + 1,275 + 1,275 + 1,700= 4,675

3. Generalization

The teachers will ask the pupils what

theyve learn after the discussion.
IV. Application

The students will be asked to answer the following

problems on the board. All they have to do is to use partitive
proportion in answering the problems.

1. Divide 50 in the ratio of 3:4:3

2. Divide 70 in the ratio of 5:2:3
3. Divide 98 in the ratio of 4:5:6

V. Evaluation

Activity sheet will be given to the pupils, all they

have to do is use partitive proportion in answering the
world problems.

1. John wants to give his 20 candies to his 3 friends in the ratio of 3:3:4. How
much of the candies will each of his friends receive?
2. If Jayson have 3 friends, how much will each of his friends receive if he has
100 marbles and he must divide in the ratio of 7:6:7?
3. Ronie has 150 eggs and he has to put the eggs in four boxes. How many
eggs will each box contain if their ratio is 7:6:5:7?

VI. Assignment

Direction: Answer the following problems using partitive proportion

1. Divide 1088 in the ratio of 6:5:4:5.
2. Divide 1265 in the ratio of 4:5:6:8
3. Jerry wants to buy 1560 pairs of slippers and donate it to 4 different
orphanages. How much will each orphanage receive if the slippers will be
distributed in the ratio 9:6:5:4.

Lesson Plan in Grade VI Mathematics

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils are expected to:

1. solve problems involving proportions(recall);

` 2. Identify the three kinds of prportions; direct, indirect, and partitive
(recall);
And
3. identify problems involving the kinds of proportions (recall).

II. Subject Matter: Proportions and Its Kinds (Recall)

Reference: Fundamentals of Mathematics I, pp. 54-60
Materials: charts, strips, objects, chalk.

III. New Lesson

a. Drill
Good morning class! Good morning,
teacher
We will be your teachers this morning.
I am teacher Charlie May, and I am teacher
.
Class, lets have an action song
entitled Proportions
Proportions
I've got a photograph that I want to enlarge
Right now the width is 6 inches i want it to be 9
So if the length is 4, then what will it become?

Let's make two ratios and solve our proportion

I'll put new over old so there's the 9 over the six
and on the other side I'll put the 4 under the x
When I cross-multiply I will have 9 times 4
And then I will divide by 6 and finally I'll solve

Chorus:
A proportion is two ratios that are congruent to each other
To solve you just cross-multiply and divide
The secret how to do it right make sure corresponding part align
And then it's easy to find the missin' parts

So what if I have two similar triangles?

I know the bases are 12 feet and 4
The height of the small triangle is 6
So let's find what the height of the other one is"

So for our ratios lets put the small over the large
On the left we've got 4 feet and it is over the 12
On the right's 6 over x so let's cross-multiply
Now we've got 12 times 6 and let's divide by 4

Bridge:
So my new photo was 9 inches by 6
and my new triangle was 18 feet high
Proportions are easy once you know how to solve
Just remember that you've got to cross-multiply and divide
b. Review
Class lets have an activity. All you
have to do is to use this objects here to find the
missing term of a proportional problem.

c. Motivation
Class, this time lets have another
activity whoever among the class can answer my
questions will receive a star. And the greater the
star that you have received will be the champion
and will receive wiiglges
Ready? Yes, teacher

d. Discussion
1. Direct Proportion
As one value increases, so does the other.

2. Indirect Proportion
As one value increases, the other decreases.

3. Partitive Proportion
A proportion describing the total amount being distributed into two or more unequal
parts.

Example 1:
Jane ran 100 meters in 15 seconds. How long did she take to run 1 meter?

Step 1: Think of the word problem as:

If 100 then 15. If 1 then how many?

Step 2: Write the proportional relationship:

Answer: She took 0.15 seconds

Example 2:
A car travels 125 miles in 3 hours. How far would it travel in 5 hours?

Step 1: Think of the word problem as:

If 3 then 125. If 5 then how many?

Step 2: Write the proportional relationship:

Answer: He traveled miles.

Example 3:
It takes 4 men 6 hours to repair a road. How long will it take 7 men to do the
job if they work at the same rate?

Answer: 3.43 hours.

e. Generalization

Let the pupils write what

they have learn throughout the
tutorial session.

IV. Application
Class, lets answer the following.

1. Jane ran 50 meters in 10 seconds. How long did she take to run 1 meter?
2. A car travels 100 miles in 2 hours. How far would it travel in 8 hours?
3. It takes 2 men 4 hours to repair a road. How long will it take 5 men to do
the job if they work at the same rate?

V. Evaluation

(Questionnaire Sheet)

1. If 10 calculators cost 120, how much will 8 calculators cost?

2. If 5 bags of sweets contain 90 sweets in total, calculate how many sweets

seven bags will contain?

3. Four pipes can fill a tank in 70 minutes. How long will it take to fill the tank
by 7 pipes?

4. John plans to donate his collection of 3042 books to three libraries in the
ratio of 1:3:5. How many books will each library get?

5. If three Mars bars cost 90p, how much do five of them cost?
VI. Evaluation task (by the pupils)
They will evaluate their teachers
through writing their comments or
messages.
